Chapter 49 Newcomer's Problem

Chapter 49 Newcomer's Problem

All feedback and influence from the outside world have little to do with Wang Hao.

After a small promotion with the movie channel, he devoted most of his energy to graduation.

Yes, that’s right. With the arrival of graduation season in June, Wang Hao and other students in the directing department are about to usher in their last days on campus.

Writing papers, graduation projects, cleaning dormitories, finding jobs...

All kinds of things were piled up in front of them, keeping these young students busy.

Even Wang Hao had to stop writing the new script and devote himself to the finishing work like everyone else. He had to write a satisfactory paper based on the graduation project he had just completed.

Time passed by minute by minute, and soon it was June 8th.

Today, "The Heart Labyrinth - Buried Alive" will be screened on the movie channel. At the same time, as a senior graduate of the directing department, I will also give my final graduation work report in front of teachers and classmates.

This can be considered an old tradition of their directing department. After all, the graduation work is not to be put in a warehouse to gather dust. After all, the work must be scrutinized by the public.

So at this time every year, there are always different works screened in the auditorium of the Shanghai Film Academy, and Wang Hao is among them this year.

In order to cooperate with the work of the movie channel, he also adjusted the screening time of his own movies to 8:30 in the evening.

Before this, he and Zhang Yang had seen a fun event.

That was the theater movie that was shown in the afternoon and was directed by Ma Bo and several classmates.

The movie's premiere was well organized, but it was all just a show. When the lights went out and the movie started, Wang Hao knew that Ma Bo was finished.

In fact, there is no technical problem with the film "Guardian of the Stars" shot by Ma Bo and his team.

Watching the entire film, whether it is the composition, color grading, lighting, or the character's performance, music, and editing, it can be said to be very regular and within the acceptable range.

This is very rare for a novice director.

In addition to showing that they have an experienced producer to supervise them, it also shows that Wang Bo and others have learned solid directing knowledge over the years and are not just wasting time.

For a film to be merely technically qualified is only the minimum standard; the key elements for its success ultimately depend on the story and content.

And at this point, there are big problems with Ma Bo and his team's film.

Wang Hao himself is a director, and he just happened to shoot a movie, which is the most sensitive time.

So after just watching a short clip, he immediately discovered that the other party, as a director, lacked control over the crew and the film.

In his opinion, a movie can be said to be a work of art, but it can also be said to be a business project.

These two different concepts correspond to different director identities and different responsibilities.

For the former, the director is a creator and an artist who needs to express his or her own feelings and highlight his or her characteristics.

For the latter, the director is a manager and general manager, so he needs to control his desire to express himself and take control of the entire project.

However, in today's Chinese film and television industry, many directors tend to put themselves in the position of creators and artists, but ignore their importance as project managers. For a film and television project worth millions, if the manager himself has no management awareness and does not know how to manage, then the most basic problem reflected in the work is "chaos".

The shooting scene was in chaos and the film's story was disorganized.

What's worse, when a director cannot even control his management rights, his film is likely to be mixed with things that do not belong to him.

Obviously, as a new director, Ma Bo made this most fatal mistake.

Although he has extremely carefully chosen the youth romance film, which is the safest and most friendly to newcomers type of film, the story content is still too bloated.

Luo Jin, the male protagonist, was admitted to the Beijing Film Academy with his childhood sweetheart after graduating from the college entrance examination. He then met his love at first sight here. The man and two women were constantly entangled in a story that was both sweet and tragic.

The content of this part alone involves a mature triangle love story, which is worth writing about in detail.

But looking at the whole movie, director Ma Bo seemed unsatisfied and continued to inject a lot of other side content into it.

Childhood sweethearts, a sadistic love triangle, struggle, unspoken rules, extravagance, blows from fate, resistance to injustice...

It can be said that Wang Hao saw too many things that Ma Bo wanted to express in this movie.

He seemed to want to take advantage of this rare opportunity to incorporate his feelings about youth, campus, showbiz, love, and society over the years into this two-hour movie.

This made Wang Hao feel like he was watching a hodgepodge of youth movies with countless seasonings and ingredients.

If it were just part of this content, it would still be a decent movie.

However, when a director edited them all together but couldn't tell the order of importance, Wang Haowu could only helplessly say that he felt like sitting on pins and needles, like a thorn in his back, and like a fishbone stuck in his throat.

There were probably many audience members at the scene who felt the same way as he did.

Wang Hao heard a boy behind him sneer and complain: "What kind of movie is this?"

However, some people criticized and looked down on it, but naturally there were also a few people who thought that the movie was still okay.

At least some female audiences seem to be particularly fond of triangle love stories and are easily moved by the story content.

Unfortunately, such touching clips are only short-lived. Ma Bo's "Guardian of the Stars" is more about the whining and melodramatic plots of young people who are out of touch with reality.

The result of this poor story content was that when the movie was two-thirds through, many impatient viewers had already stood up and prepared to leave, cursing.

When the movie ended, only sparse applause could be heard in the auditorium.

When the show was over, Zhang Yang looked at the dejected Ma Bo on the stage and felt quite gloating, after all, the other party had a conflict with them not long ago.

On the contrary, Wang Hao explained it to him and pointed out the most critical problem of the other party's film, which was the director's lack of control.

This also reminded Wang Hao that reputation and power should not be borrowed from others!

Some of the conflict here with Ma Bo was deleted earlier, his plot was reduced to one chapter, and the competition was cancelled.
