A day at Hogwarts
Chapter 259 Course Selection
The first extracurricular teaching at Hogwarts ended with joy and laughter. After all the students returned to the castle safely, the principal held a small banquet.
The students had a great time chatting while eating at the banquet. There were so many interesting things to share with their classmates that they couldn't stop talking.
Only a few people at the Slytherin table were dejected. They fell into the lake and caught a cold and had a fever. They lay in the school infirmary until this morning and were discharged.
When the banquet was over, Dumbledore stood up and said to everyone with a smile: "Tomorrow is the Easter holiday."
The students suddenly cheered.
Dumbledore continued to smile and said: "Don't forget your holiday homework."
The cheers stopped abruptly.
Dumbledore glanced at Charles sideways and said, "The homework for this holiday is a report on this extracurricular teaching, a piece of parchment as long as his wand."
The students breathed a sigh of relief, not too much.
Charles has a black line on his head. This is probably directed at himself.
The banquet was over, and the students left the cloaks and other items given out before extracurricular lessons on the dining table, and then returned to their respective common rooms.
Charles also had to go to Professor McGonagall to retrieve his bag, but ended up helping him take things back.
A pile of career guidance brochures soon appeared on the long table where fifth-grade students often sat, and a group of people suddenly looked sad.
The second-year students were also assigned a list each, and began to choose several elective courses such as arithmetic divination, ancient runes, divination, care of magical creatures and Muggle studies in the third year.
"Alchemy?" Hermione discovered the problem immediately, "Alchemy has been added to the required courses!"
Fred and George were originally coming to tease Ron, but after hearing this, they immediately came behind him to look at the new timetable.
“It’s actually a required course!”
"I thought it was an elective course."
They nodded seriously.
Hermione turned to them and asked, "Do you know about this?"
Fred asked in surprise: "You don't know?"
George said: "By the way, you and Charles were in the garden at that time."
Immediately gossipy eyes moved back and forth between Hermione and Charles.
Hermione ignored them and thought for a while, it must have happened during Merlin's trial. She was drinking medicine in the garden, while others moved a lot of books back, which seemed to be related to the alchemy class.
"Ah!" Hermione suddenly panicked, "What should I do? I don't know anything about alchemy. Which books should I start with... Oops!"
After taking back the knife, Charles said: "What time is it now? I won't start learning until next semester."
Harry, Ron and others nodded in agreement.
In this case, only Charles dared to say it to Hermione. Anyone else would have had to accept a five-minute lecture.
Hermione said to Charles very seriously: "You can't be so careless, the course will directly affect the entire person's future life.
"You will have to have a job in the future. You can't live your whole life just relying on Mr. Smith's money. Your future job is closely related to the courses you learn in school."
At this time, Harry interrupted and asked Charles: "What job do you want to do in the future?"
Charles replied without thinking: "Selling air fryers."
At this time, neither those who grew up in a wizarding family or a Muggle family understood it, and Charles was too lazy to explain these unimportant things.
Ron said with some worry: "I don't know who the professor of alchemy is. I hope he won't be like Snape."
The surrounding students became worried together.
Fred thought for a while and said, "I heard that the professor who has been teaching alchemy classes to sixth and seventh graders at Hogwarts for the past few years is quite easy to talk to and not strict."
But George rarely disagreed with him: "Elective courses are different from required courses. Professor Dumbledore may invite other wizards to be professors."
Everyone discussed it for a while. No one knew what the principal would do, and they soon started studying their own class schedules.
Neville began writing letters to his parents, asking for their advice.
Dean Thomas's father was a wizard who was killed by Death Eaters for protecting his family. He grew up in a Muggle family with his Muggle mother. He didn't know who to ask and was scratching his hair in distress.
Percy walked back and forth around the long table several times, waiting for someone to ask him, but no one paid attention.
Seamus asked Charles, "What class are you going to take?"
Charles replied, "I don't want to take any classes."
Percy seized the opportunity and said behind the two of them: "Selecting courses is to prepare for future employment and must be treated with caution."
"I suggest you definitely take a divination class. This is a very practical course that can save you a lot of trouble."
Seamus nodded and said, "Well, then I'll choose this."
Lavender Brown across the long table said with a smile: "This is the only class where you don't have to worry about explosions. I'll take it too."
Everyone thought it made sense when she said this, and they all ticked off the divination class on their timetable.
Charles had no choice and was not interested in this.
Percy saw a good start and continued: "The Muggle Studies class may seem a little silly, but I think wizards need to have a clear understanding of non-wizard society. If they are engaged in a job dealing with Muggles in the future, they must choose it."
Seeing that Charles had checked this course, Seamus asked curiously: "You grew up in a Muggle family, why did you choose it?"
"Huh?" Charles was in a trance just now. After coming back to his senses, he said, "You don't have to worry about homework."
He made sense, and Harry and Dean followed suit.
Percy added: "If you like outdoor activities, you can take the Care of Magical Creatures class."
Harry thought it was good and immediately ticked the box. Next to him, Ron and Seamus also ticked the box.
Charles knew this course was a trap and didn’t choose it.
Seamus asked him again: "Don't you like outdoor activities?"
Charles made an excuse: "I'm afraid I have to go to class outside in the rain on a rainy day."
Percy continued: "Arithmetic divination is the science of divination through strict lists of numbers and calculations, which is quite difficult."
Since it is difficult, not many people choose.
"In the course Ancient Runes, you will learn articles about runes," Percy said. "This course is mainly a theoretical course, which is a bit boring. It is suitable for people who are interested in studying history."
Everyone lost interest after hearing what he said.
Charles thought about it for a while. This class was a bit like a Latin class. If it would be unreasonable to choose only one class, since he has a talent for foreign languages, then choose it.
The second-grade students have a general understanding of the courses they are about to face, but the final decision still requires further consideration and consultation with their families.
Charles had already decided on his lesson, took out his parchment and started writing his holiday homework.
The owl rain after breakfast the next day was heavier than usual, and Neville was surrounded by a large flock of owls. His parents and other relatives wrote to him to give him advice.
Charles left early in the morning and had a lot to do.
