A Scientific Urban Detective

#4 - Hospital murder case!

Just as Lin Wuming was trapped in the embarrassment of being lost, a man in a white coat pushed open the door and entered the ward belonging to Lin Wuming and Torayou Honey.

Of course, the ward was empty.

The man pushed up his glasses, looked around again, and frowned after confirming there was no one there.

Silently turning off the safety of the pistol in his pocket, he took out his phone from another pocket.

"What's going on? That boy isn't in the room!" he questioned into the phone. "Isn't he supposed to have fractured limbs and be unable to move? Did you get the room number wrong?"

Not receiving a satisfactory answer, the man snorted coldly and hung up the phone, then reached into his pocket again and gripped the pistol—a rare opportunity to catch the target alone, but it turned out to be a wild goose chase. What should he do next? Abandon the mission, or wait here for a while?

After a little thought, he decided to stay and wait.

Torayou Honey and Dr. Sakurai wouldn't be back for at least half an hour. As long as he could wait for that 007 before then.

It wouldn't matter if he was accidentally discovered by other doctors or nurses. After all, he was originally a doctor here, and it wouldn't be strange to explain that he was here to inspect the ward.

—A level 3 esper couldn't withstand the special armor-piercing bullets at close range. Four bullets would be enough to send him to the west. After finishing the job, he could leave the ward directly and dispose of the gloves, white coat, and pistol.

Perfect! No one would suspect a legitimate doctor like himself—after all, doctors don't need pistols to kill people; they have more concealed and convenient methods.

As long as he wasn't suspected in the first place, the subsequent investigation wouldn't find him; the employer, "Black May," had a strong background and was powerful enough to influence the guard unit's investigation.

After going through the action plan in his mind, the man felt much more at ease.

"Dr. Yamamoto, why are you here?" Just as he was distracted, the door behind him was pushed open, and Dr. Sakurai asked with some surprise.

"Eh? Dr. Sakurai!" Yamamoto was taken aback. He never expected Dr. Sakurai to return so early. "You, how… where is your patient?"

"Student Torayou? She's in the cafeteria," Dr. Sakurai said. Since it was dinner time, they went straight to the cafeteria.

Then, Dr. Sakurai remembered Lin Wuming, who was left alone in the ward, so she came back to invite him to eat together.

As a result, she pushed open the door and saw Dr. Yamamoto standing in the ward.

If it were someone else, she might have been fooled, but Dr. Sakurai was in charge of both patients in this ward, so she knew best that Dr. Yamamoto had no reason to be here.

"So, Dr. Yamamoto is here to see Wuming-kun?" Dr. Sakurai asked.

"Nothing, nothing…" Knowing that things couldn't be done, Dr. Yamamoto gave a dry laugh, turned around stiffly, and prepared to leave.

"Dr. Yamamoto!" But Dr. Sakurai blocked the door. The usually gentle and amiable female doctor revealed a capable expression, squinting at the pocket of the other party. "You should know that I once had an internship experience as a battlefield doctor."

"You… what are you talking about?" Cold sweat dripped from his forehead, and the fingers gripping the gun handle tightened with nervousness.

"As a doctor, what are you hiding in your pocket?" Dr. Sakurai's tone became stern. "Dr. Yamamoto, you wouldn't have been bribed to come here and silence Wuming-kun, would you?"

As one of the attending physicians, Dr. Sakurai also knew about Lin Wuming's situation and predicament—according to the guard unit's judgment, he was likely to have escaped from an illegal research institute; therefore, in order to maintain secrecy, the research institute might take measures to kill him!

For the "illegal research institutions" in Academy City, similar things were not impossible.

The hospital was also prepared, but they didn't expect the attack to come so quickly, and it was an "insider!"

Dr. Yamamoto was only working part-time and was not a professional killer. Seeing that his intentions had been completely exposed, he was already flustered.

Subconsciously, he took action according to the repeatedly rehearsed situation—opening the gun's safety…

By the time Dr. Yamamoto came back to his senses, he realized that in the moment of his distraction, his fingertips had subconsciously tightened, continuously pulling the trigger.

Four bullets whistled out.

Dr. Sakurai never expected the other party to actually open fire so recklessly!

Even though she relied on her battlefield experience and a bit of luck to dodge the first two shots, she was still hit by the latter two bullets.

Fresh blood gurgled out, staining her white coat red.

Dr. Sakurai immediately fell to the ground.

It was not until this moment that Yamamoto, who had come back to his senses, realized what he had done.

Fortunately, the pistol and bullets were for assassination purposes, and there was not too much noise, which should not attract the attention of the outside and the neighboring ward.

Dr. Yamamoto hurriedly stepped forward, dragged Dr. Sakurai away from the doorway, and hid her under the bed. Then, he didn't bother to clean up the bloodstains on the floor, carefully stepped over the pool of blood, and fled the ward…

After asking around, Lin Wuming finally found his temporary ward.

"I didn't expect I'd have a 'being lost' attribute…" Lin Wuming was still worried about entering the wrong room when he pushed open the ward door.

But what caught his eye first was the red blood on the floor, and the smell of blood mixed with disinfectant.

He didn't have time to care whether this was his ward or not. Lin Wuming looked forward along the bloodstains and saw a body hidden under his bed at a glance.

The murderer—if this was a murder—had hidden it carelessly, probably a helpless act in a hurry? Half of the body was exposed, not stuffed under the bed.

Speaking of which, the hospital bed was not a suitable place to hide in the first place.

The victim, lying in a pool of blood, twitched her fingers slightly. Lin Wuming noticed this detail and immediately realized that the person was still alive!

So he didn't care too much and manipulated the wheelchair to directly run over the blood on the ground, making the ground even messier; while using telekinesis to move the hospital bed away.

"Dr. Sakurai!" Through the highly recognizable body curves, Lin Wuming recognized the victim's identity at a glance.

—Why would a doctor be attacked in my ward?

Lin Wuming was surprised, but now was not the time to dwell on these things.

He immediately used telekinesis to press the emergency call button at the head of the bed, and then stepped forward to try to check Dr. Sakurai's injuries.

Lin Wuming didn't understand first aid knowledge, but he still knew the most basic common sense of pressing to stop bleeding—anyway, he couldn't let her continue to bleed like this!

Most of the white coat was stained red with blood, so Lin Wuming tore open Dr. Sakurai's clothes to find the wound.

Just then, the sound of glass shattering came from his ear; at the same time, in Lin Wuming's perception, the flow of time around him slowed down.

—He once again entered the "bullet time" state he had experienced during his near-death experience.

Then, Lin Wuming saw the attack that threatened his life—a blonde-haired, blue-eyed girl broke through the window and stabbed straight at him with a sword!
