#583 - Meaningless contact?
“I know you don’t have any malicious intent.” Lin Wu Ming nodded, feeling somewhat baffled by Kanzaki Kaori’s reaction. “So, what brings you here?”
“It concerns some internal matters of our organization. As it's classified, please forgive me for not being able to perceive your full situation.” Kanzaki Kaori bowed deeply again in apology.
“Forget it, I’ll explain.” Stiyl seemed to have finished his magical enhancement and took over the conversation again. “Mr. Lin Wu Ming, I won’t beat around the bush. Anyway, it’s not a secret to your Board of Directors—we are magicians, belonging to the Anglican Church’s Necessarius. You can think of us as the Anglican Church’s special forces, a special unit composed of magicians.”
“Okay, magicians.” Lin Wu Ming nodded, his expression calm, seemingly accepting the introduction without any surprise.
But in Stiyl’s view, Lin Wu Ming didn’t understand what he was saying at all.
Intelligence indicated that Lin Wu Ming had never dealt with real magicians before. Therefore, he probably didn’t understand the concept of a ‘real magician.’
This wasn’t strange. A considerable number of directors in the Board of Directors were in the same situation—they knew about the magic side and magicians on a ‘knowledge’ and ‘intelligence’ level, but had never actually interacted with them.
Therefore, in their view, so-called magicians were just espers from outside Academy City—they simply developed their abilities differently, but there was no essential difference.
So these directors could often accept the existence of ‘magicians’ with stable emotions.
…However, it didn’t matter. Misunderstanding was fine, as long as it didn’t hinder their mission.
Stiyl was open-minded and didn’t waste time explaining, simply saying, “As Kanzaki said, we came to Academy City this time on a secret mission. Rest assured, it’s an internal matter of our church and won’t have any impact on Academy City.”
“So? You came to me just to say this?” Lin Wu Ming looked over with a puzzled expression.
Although Lin Wu Ming already knew these two people, he really had no idea what their purpose was in actively seeking him out.
“Uh…” Now it was Stiyl’s turn to not know how to respond.
—Putting himself in his shoes, Lin Wu Ming, who was suddenly approached, would indeed feel confused, right?
Stiyl glanced at the blonde girl with starry eyes hiding behind them—if my memory intelligence hadn’t been read.
“Please don’t worry, Mr. Lin Wu Ming,” Stiyl quickly said, “We’re just here to say hello tonight—after all, we’re operating in your territory, so it’s better to say hello beforehand to avoid any trouble due to misunderstandings.”
“That’s true.” Lin Wu Ming nodded. “But it’s useless to talk to me about this. You should find Chairman Aleister.”
“I’ve already met with the Chairman,” Stiyl said. “And it was Chairman who suggested we come to you.”
—See, it’s that guy after all!
Lin Wu Ming complained to Shokuhou Misaki in his heart.
On the surface, he responded, “Okay, I understand what you wanted to say. So, if there’s nothing else… let’s call it a meeting? We’re about to go home.”
“Uh…” Stiyl and Kanzaki Kaori looked at each other. “Then… goodbye?”
Thinking about it, there really wasn’t anything else to say. This meeting was indeed just to say hello.
So, Lin Wu Ming decisively turned and left.
“Damn it, I regret listening to that guy Aleister’s suggestion.” Watching Lin Wu Ming operate his wheelchair and merge with the three girls behind him, Stiyl muttered, “This is just meaningless exposure of information!”
Stiyl seriously suspected that Chairman Aleister’s real purpose was to create an opportunity for them to meet with “Mental Out” in order to obtain the memory intelligence in their brains!
From the actual contact, Lin Wu Ming also seemed confused.
“It seems I was negligent and lacked consideration,” Kanzaki Kaori said self-reproachfully.
“Forget it, it’s already happened.” Stiyl shook his head. “At least from the contact, this Lin Wu Ming guy isn’t bad and shouldn’t become an obstacle to us.”
“It’s really inexplicable…” Misaka Mikoto also complained on the way back, “How did two guys claiming to be magicians suddenly appear? Are they espers from other places?”
—Wu Ming-senpai, you can ask Chairman Aleister.
Shokuhou Misaki reminded him secretly.
The current Lin Wu Ming was playing the role of “himself who doesn’t know the original plot,” but acting, no matter what, couldn’t be perfect in every detail.
Therefore, Shokuhou Misaki needed to remind him from time to time to fill in the gaps.
“Indeed…” Lin Wu Ming nodded in deep agreement. “This kind of thing must be clarified with Chairman Aleister.”
So, Lin Wu Ming took out his phone…
“That’s right, I did mention—suggesting they meet with you.” Chairman Aleister readily admitted. “After all, the area they’re active in happens to be your territory.”
“It’s your territory, right.” Lin Wu Ming retorted. “And your building is in the 7th District, so of course they’ll be active here.”
“In short, our Academy City and the Anglican Church are in a non-aggression peaceful relationship,” Chairman Aleister said. “As long as the other party doesn’t actively provoke us, in principle, we don’t need to interfere with their actions.”
“I understand,” Lin Wu Ming nodded, having received principle guidance. “So, in short, we don’t need to care about them.”
Lin Wu Ming, who didn’t want to meddle in other people’s business, hung up the phone decisively and looked at the three girls beside him: “That’s it, you heard it too—don’t mind those two strange guys.”
“Is that really what the Chairman meant?” Misaka Mikoto questioned.
“Anyway, he didn’t ask me to do anything specific,” Lin Wu Ming spread his hands. “The final interpretation is mine.”
Misaka Mikoto still seemed a little concerned, but seeing that both Tsuchimikado Maika and Shokuhou Misaki had accepted this explanation without any disagreement, she didn’t say anything more.
After all, Misaka Mikoto was only concerned about the unpleasant feeling of “the mystery not being solved,” and wasn’t as concerned about the two strangers who claimed to be magicians.
“Speaking of which,” Misaka Mikoto changed the subject, “How strong is Wu Ming-senpai now? You’ve been dueling with Accelerator all semester, and the commotion is getting more and more exaggerated.”
