Alien Knights

Chapter 26 Relief Society

It was another lively night, and there were significantly more tourists than the first day.

There are four people in the monastery.

Huggins followed the mysterious figure on the first day and disappeared without a trace again.

Then there was Edgar, this kid unsurprisingly released pigeons in the middle of the trip, and chose to run to watch a water show called "Sunset Mermaid".

Todd, who brought Jerry with him, kept the agreement and was invited to the Black Sheep stage.

When the performance started, the scene of the combination of alien abilities and acrobatic skills in front of him made Todd sigh. It was really hard for him to imagine that this beautiful figure dancing in the sky was the same person as the girl with black hair and black eyes in the laboratory this afternoon.

Just when he didn't say a word and was immersed in his senses, an untimely voice sounded in his ear.

"Mr. Todd, do you have time?"

Todd followed the sound and saw that black shadow, the man who claimed to be the head of the circus last night, stood in a dark corner of the tent, watching him with a smile.

After thinking for a while, with a bit of reluctance, Todd finally stood up and followed the man out of the tent.

Seeing this, Little Jerry also hurried out.

Todd didn't see it, but the girl who had been paying attention to him from time to time stopped performing on the high platform in the air, and looked at his distant figure with worry on her face.

The three walked half a circle around the tent, and finally came to the backstage preparation room.

The head of the circus walked into the room, pushed open the wooden window, and the clear moonlight flowed into the room along the edge of the window. He took a deep breath and let out a pleasant sound in his nasal cavity.

"I've got wine, mead, and pomegranate juice. Would you like something, Mr. Todd?"

Todd shook his head and rejected the other party's proposal.

The man opened the seal of the leather tube indifferently, and took a sip of the liquid inside.

"What's your impression of the downtown circus?"

After pondering for a moment, Todd carefully chose his words: "It's lively, interesting, and makes people forget to return."

Looking at the other person's face, the head of the circus nodded with some regret and said, "Although your words are so polite, your expression tells me that you are someone who has seen bigger scenes."

Todd smiled noncommittally.

"So... do you know about the 'Sutherland Relic'?"

The sudden question made Todd stunned for a moment. Just as he was about to answer, the other party stood up and waved to him, then turned and walked into the depths of the room.

As the recessed mechanism on the wall is pressed, the hidden room hidden behind the wall is gradually revealed. A simple wooden table and four simple chairs appeared in front of Todd. A pattern of "crown of thorns" hung on the wall, with a line of small words written in Latin underneath.

"Relief Society".

The head of the circus sat down on the chair facing the door and motioned Todd to sit opposite him, while Jerry, who was too big, could only sit on the ground with his knees hugged.

The man straightened his neckline: "You can call me Throat, I'm a member of the Relief Society."

Seeing the doubts on the face of the person opposite, he asked in surprise, "Did no one mention the name of the Relief Society to you when you joined the monastery's heterogeneous assembly?"

Finding that Todd did not know anything, he sighed and said: "Only ignorant and narrow-minded people would imagine that alien species can be accepted by the world."

Todd asked tentatively: "What would your relief be?"

"Speaking of the Relief Society, we must first talk about the origin of us alien species." The man took out a stack of cardboard cards from his arms and spread them on the table.

Todd took a closer look. Each card had a different pattern drawn, and different words were marked in Latin on the corners, such as "Emperor", "Magician", "Sun", "Death", etc., a total of 22 cards.

He thought to himself, this seems to be a common tarot card in his previous life, which is usually used for divination and fortune.

"This is a card made by the palace alchemists of the ancient Tyro Empire to divide and classify the talents and abilities of different species."

Throat Bone collected and shuffled the Tarot cards, pulled out the topmost "moon" and placed it on the table: "Thousands of years ago, alien races played a pivotal role in the Tailuo Empire. But as time went by, the scarcity and change of bloodlines caused the number of this ethnic group to decrease. In the Supreme Council of Tairot, those who hold hatred and fear of alien races have gradually gained the upper hand..."

Turning over the second card, the pattern of the "Tower" appeared in front of Todd. Throat continued: "A revolution was first initiated by religious forces, and then swept across the entire empire. The original freedom of belief was abolished, and "Heavenly Father Monotheism" became the state religion. Alien groups were arrested and killed, and any books and documents that recorded them were burned."

The third card "Wheel of Fortune" is placed on the far right.

"In such a chaotic and violent age, an alchemist named "Sutherland" stood up. He led the survivors of the ethnic group and migrated to the east of the mainland. In the subsequent war, in order to protect the remaining blood, the sage Sutherland chose to face the army and cut off his rear. After he died of exhaustion, his body was burned by the enemy for seven days and seven nights, and the embers were scattered everywhere."

He put the cards back together, put them in his palms, and took a sip from the leather tube around his waist. "After that, the aliens, like mice, became the targets of hunting. They hid in XZ all day long, and they were in constant panic. So, for the sake of survival and revenge, the Relief Society was born."

Glancing at the cross on Todd's chest, the man lowered his voice: "Why don't you think about it and join us?"

Todd frowned.

Throatbone stood up from the chair, stretched his head forward, and his face was dark: "Hasn't Mr. Todd thought about it? You have the "Sutherland legacy" on your body. Once you are discovered by the church or...are accused, what awaits you is the judgment seat and the stake..."

Before the words were finished, a stone fell on the table.

In the next moment, the black sheep stood between the two of them, with his face facing his throat and his back facing Todd, his voice sounded more serious than ever before.

"Mr. Todd, please go back today."

Looking at the emotional girl in front of him, Todd stood up and said hesitantly, "But...?"

The girl's voice became louder: "I have something important to tell the leader! Please get out of here!"

Todd glanced at the pale throat, and realized that the other party really wanted him to leave this place, so he took Jerry out of the dark room.

Throat Bone sat back in the chair, took out the silver file from his pocket, shook his head helplessly while grinding his nails, and said, "You still haven't changed your mind?"

Black Sheep sat opposite him: "As I said, today is my last performance."

The other party's resolute attitude made the man feel deeply frustrated: "Max Byrne, who grew up with you, hoped that you would give up traveling and stay in the monastery. After so many years of begging, you didn't agree. Mr. Todd only spent less than a day with you, and you offered to stay?"

With the hand in her pocket, she secretly squeezed the translucent glass crystal tightly. The girl nodded and said, "Beside him, I can see a whole new world, which is different from everyone else. So, I beg you, don't bother him..."

Throat Bone took the Tarot cards on the table in his hand, pulled out one at random, looked at the pattern on it and laughed: "Don't bother him? When he understands the true meaning behind the "Sutherland Legacy", it's his turn to disturb the world..."

On the flipped card, a man was hung upside down on a T-shaped tree trunk with his hands tied behind his back.

At noon the next day, when Todd, who was full of thoughts, came to the door of the underground laboratory, a familiar figure had been waiting there for a long time.

The black sheep, who was wearing light women's clothes and washed lead, sat on a large suitcase and said to him with a smile: "Mr. Todd, I was kicked out by my family, can you take me in? Oh, right! Please don't call me 'Miss Black Sheep' from now on. My name is Karin Foreman."
