America 1881: They Call Me Legend

Chapter 109: The Apache Tribe - The Most Valuable Indians in the American South

Sean hurriedly climbed up from the chair. He looked around. It was dark and midwinter in the car, and the Pinkerton detectives were all out.

"Boss, what's wrong?" Sean came over.

Chen Jianqiu pointed to the outside of the carriage. A scholar-looking man was passing by their window. He was taken out of the sleeper carriage and walked directly to the back under the escort of two Pinkerton detectives.

They chose to walk directly outside the train instead of walking through the carriage they were in.

The birds also got up, and Adam was lying in the shadow, wondering if he was asleep.

"You two stay here. No matter what happens, don't act in a hurry. Sean and I will come over to find you." Chen Jianqiu explained, and then left his seat with Sean.

They got out of the car through the front door.

A Pinkerton detective was stationed there.

The man was leaning on the carriage and looking around boredly, when he happened to bump into Chen Jianqiu coming out of the carriage.

"What are you doing down here?" the detective asked alertly.

"Pee." Sean walked to the detective's side, facing the railroad tracks, and was about to unbutton his pants.

The detective looked at the black man with disgust and said, "Nigger, stay away from me."

Chen Jianqiu took out a pack of cigarettes from his pocket, took out one, rolled it again with his hand, and handed it to the detective beside him:

"You guys have worked really hard."

He struck a match and lit it for the detective. The detective took a deep breath and suddenly felt like his whole body was floating.

"Who says it's not the case? With that pitiful salary every day, you go to this inhospitable place and risk losing your life." The detective sighed.

"Huh? Why is your life still in danger?" Chen Jianqiu threw out the match in his hand.

"Ha! New Mexico! A hellish place that even the devil doesn't want to come to. There are damn Mexicans and Indians here, especially Indians. If you appear in the wilderness today, your scalp may be gone when you sleep at night."

"Indians? Those primitive people with bows, arrows and stones?" Chen Jianqiu replied disapprovingly, "Aren't they almost being chased to extinction?"

"Hey, brother, you don't know this. The Indians here are different. They are the most ferocious and brave I have ever seen in the west. They have been wandering back and forth here, elusive, and the army can't do anything to them.

"

"Oh? Why don't you just hide from them?"

"Who says it's not? But our employer is a lunatic and insists on causing trouble for them, but..." The detective wanted to continue, but he suddenly looked at Chen Jianqiu suspiciously.

Chen Jianqiu calmly lit a cigarette for himself: "What's wrong, brother?"

"Didn't you come down to pee?"

"I'm not, my friend is. I just came out to take a breath and won't disturb you on duty, brother." Chen Jianqiu threw the remaining pack of cigarettes and matches to the detective, "I'm going back first, brother."

"

The detective took the cigarette with a smile.

He didn't realize that the black man next to him had quietly disappeared.

When he finished lighting a cigarette and raised his head again, he found that the Chinese man was gone.

Huh? You're back in the carriage so soon? Then I won't return this pack of cigarettes.

Chen Jianqiu and Sean had already appeared on the roof of the car at this time, and they squatted down.

"You go to the first luxury car and see if you can find a notebook signed by Lockhart. I'll go to the back car and have a look." Chen Jianqiu ordered, "Remember, control your hands and don't take anything away."

Something, just confirm the content of the note."

"I will tell you the most valuable thing in that carriage later." Chen Jianqiu added.

After Sean agreed, the two acted separately.

Chen Jianqiu lowered his body and walked forward gently. He was careful not to make any noise. At the same time, he was also paying attention to the movements of the Pinkerton detectives patrolling on both sides of the train.

When he came to the junction of the two carriages, he found two detectives guarding the door chatting.

Chen Jianqiu listened to the content of the chat, and basically complained that income and risk were not proportional, and there was nothing he cared about.

Chen Jianqiu unfolded his body, jumped forward slightly, and landed on the roof of the car in front. Then he contracted his body with the inertia of landing, as light as a cat.

The detectives did not notice the movement above their heads. They were still immersed in the unfairness of income distribution.

Unlike the darkness in the car in front, this section is all brightly lit.

Chen Jianqiu moved to the edge of the carriage, hooked his feet on the iron groove on the edge of the roof, and slowly hung his body downwards.

There was a certain distance between his face and the window, so that even if people in the car looked outside the car, they would not be able to notice him immediately.

His line of sight gradually became level with the upper edge of the car window, allowing him to see clearly what was going on in the car.

The curtains in the car window were not closed, leaving a gap, and Chen Jianqiu looked inside along this gap.

The scholar was sitting at the table, with a notebook open on the table.

"You have been studying for so long and you have just come up with this?!" Astor's voice came. He was wearing pajamas and pacing back and forth in the carriage, looking restless. This was different from his calmness when he was chatting with Mark Twain during the day.

Leisure, forming a sharp contrast.

"Well, sir, Mr. Lockhart is an authority on the history of Central America, but he did not write it all in his notes. He inferred that the Aztecs' treasures were in a mountain on the US-Mexico border, and at the same time this Aztec

The Zitec branch is related to the Apache tribe."

"This tribe has been active on the US-Mexico border, and now they..." The scholar wanted to continue talking, but was rudely interrupted by Astor.

"So what do I want you losers to do? Am I illiterate or do I want you to learn about the Apache tribe from me?" Artus angrily kicked over a chair at the table.

Chen Jianqiu glanced at the notebook on the table. He couldn't read the words clearly, but based on their conversation, there was no doubt that it was Lockhart's notebook.

"That priest doesn't know anything and doesn't say anything, do you understand?" Asre roared in a low voice, "I listened to your words and spent a lot of money to buy him from the army. You know what this means.

What are you wearing?"

The scholar shook his head in fear.

"It means that when you wake up tomorrow, your scalp may be peeled off by Geronimo!"

Astor's anger is justified. The Apache tribe is not someone to talk to, and the US military has nothing to do with them.

He listened to the advice of this group of people and bought the priest they captured from the US military, which also meant that he would have to become an enemy of their chief, Geronimo.

This man has been rumored in the West to be a miraculous and terrifying person.

He missed Lockhart so much now, but it was a pity that when Hook-Nosed Lynch gave him a copy of the notebook and map, he also brought the news that Lockhart had been killed by a Mexican gang.

Damn it, if he were here, he wouldn't have to pull together this pile of trash to form a treasure hunting team, let alone trouble the Apache tribe.

"I think you don't have to worry about those treasures..." the scholar said inappropriately.

All the notes and things on the table were thrown out, hitting the scholar in the face.

"My family's money can buy the entire New York. Do you think I care about the money for those treasures? I want other things!" Astor's anger reached a certain point.

"roll!"

The scholar was led away with a sad face.

Priest? Apache tribe?

Chen Jianqiu suddenly had a plan.

If this priest is in this car, then you should find a way to find him.
