"Hey! Buddy, now is not the time to sleep. Wake up, clear your head!"

Dazed, Qi Shan felt a trickle of warmth flowing into his body, as if his body were parched land receiving long-awaited rain. Every cell in his body rejoiced, greedily absorbing the meager nourishment.

"He's conscious!"

"Wow, this kid's vitality is really tenacious. The doctors had already given up trying to save him, but he actually pulled through!"

There were other people present. Where was he?

Filled with inexplicable questions, Qi Shan slowly opened his eyes.

Two large faces came into view, one black and one white, both characteristic of their respective races.

"He's really awake! Qi Shan! Qi Shan, can you hear me? Give us a sign, buddy. Do you remember you owe me one thousand two hundred dollars from that time we went to the strip club together?"

"Shut your stinking mouth, Brook. Qi Shan has never owed you money. He's Asian; he never borrows money. He just borrowed my Cadillac for a joyride last time, and it was inexplicably stolen. Qi Shan, do you remember? You promised to give me an explanation. Considering we're colleagues, I only want eight hundred dollars. Fair enough, right?"

"Wow, you're just making things up. Bob, when did you become such a lazy bum? You weren't like this when we were at the police academy."

Exposed, Bob glared. Brook refused to back down. The two of them actually left Qi Shan to the side and started arguing amongst themselves.

Qi Shan glanced at them. They revealed too much information in their chatter. Even if he used his heels to think, he would know who they were.

Looking around, well, unsurprisingly, it was a hospital.

There were no memories in his mind. It seemed he had only replaced the identity, without inheriting anything else.

This wasn't a big deal.

He checked himself. The situation was okay. It seemed the space-time rift altar had succeeded. But why had his body become like this, like a dried corpse after exhausting all its energy, floating in space for tens of thousands of years?

It seemed the technology still needed improvement.

The little universe was still connected. He could sense the civilization isolated in another world, but he couldn't reach it through the endless space-time.

The absolute attributes of his body were still there, and his superpowers were too, but they seemed to be suppressed by something, making it difficult to use them. Also, it seemed he had brought a little fellow with him.

Qi Shan's heart stirred, and a silver-white metallic bean appeared in his palm.

As soon as it appeared, the bean gently transformed, turning into fine threads that wrapped around his index finger, disguising itself as an inconspicuous silver ring.

This was the seed Qi Shan had spent all his reincarnation points to obtain.

A self-growing, self-strengthening metallic lifeform.

That's right, this little fellow could devour metal to grow, changing its body shape and the properties of different parts of its body.

Theoretically, as long as it was metal, it was its food, and it could disguise itself as any metal.

Any separated part, any liquid metal, was under its control, unless it was too far from the main body, in which case it would lose its responsiveness. But once it got close again, it would immediately be controlled again.

It felt a bit like the relationship between electronic products and WIFI.

Skills were like passing clouds to Qi Shan; this kind of interesting magical lifeform was more attractive.

Moreover, this fellow could grow infinitely. Theoretically, as long as it could eat enough metal, it could grow infinitely. Maybe one day it could form an entire metallic planet.

After taking stock of these things, Qi Shan focused his attention on himself.

Brook and Bob argued for a long time, but it eventually fizzled out.

They glared at each other a few times, then looked at Qi Shan together.

Brook said in surprise, "He's really awake!"

Qi Shan said expressionlessly, "Yes, I'm awake. Why are you two here?"

Bob said, "We don't want to investigate cases. You know the nature of our theft and robbery unit's cases. Gotham has hundreds of robberies every day. If we handled every case, would the police even have time to live? We're just wage slaves.

Anyway, our unit's clearance rate has always been at the bottom, and the captain hasn't said anything, so we're too lazy to bother!"

Brook was black, and perhaps because of his race, he looked strong and young. But you could tell from his eyes that he was not as simple-minded as he looked.

A glint of shrewdness occasionally flashed across his dark face, making it clear that he was a tricky fellow.

Bob was nearing middle age, with a sallow complexion and a face full of stubble. His police uniform was also loose and sloppy, clearly an old hand.

Qi Shan said, "How did I get to the hospital?"

Hearing this, the two of them laughed at the same time. "You have the nerve to ask? Weren't you scared unconscious by a murder case?"

Qi Shan's heart stirred. "Theater back alley?"

"So you remember it very clearly?"

"Then what's going on with you two?" Qi Shan looked at the bandages on their bodies. "Don't tell me you got scratched by a fork during lunch. You two usually skip work to go to bars or cause trouble for thugs. When have you ever been to a hospital? Don't use me as an excuse."

"Alright, you caught us. We're in a similar situation to you. You were scared unconscious. When we saw that bastard, we instinctively chased after him. We didn't expect him to just open fire. Luckily, it was just superficial wounds." Bob looked a little embarrassed and spread his hands.

Qi Shan glanced at Brook and said lightly, "I see. You were ambushed while running away!"

"What do you mean running away!" Bob shouted. "That's standard operating procedure. We were calling for backup!"

Brook quickly said, "After all, there were only two of us at the time. If we hadn't run fast, we would have ended up like your partner. Poor old York, he was going to retire in three months. He never dared to work overtime his whole life, but in the end, he didn't escape. Perhaps that's the fate of Gotham police!"

Hearing this, the two of them fell silent.

Interesting! So that's how it starts.

Qi Shan narrowed his eyes. Batman's parents had just died, so he was still some time away from adulthood.

It seemed this wasn't the mainstream Gotham City, but an even more chaotic and evil Gotham from before.

Judging by this, it was most likely the TV show *Gotham*.

This world was very interesting.

Various juvenile superheroes and supervillains.

Perhaps he could let them taste the fist of justice.

Hmm!

That was a good idea.

Establish a just order in Gotham? Start with bounties? A hint of a smile curved Qi Shan's lips.
