American Comics: BOSS Invasion
#1188 - action
With a loud crash, the interrogation room door slammed shut, the entire frame shuddering.
Jim Gordon emerged, his face ashen, and leaned against the railing. His eyes glared down at the bustling police officers below, his hands clenched tightly, teeth grinding.
His gaze was fixed on a middle-aged man dressed distinctively, whose expression and body language exuded arrogance. He sat directly on a desk, surrounded by a throng of admirers, brazenly flirting with a female officer.
Clearly, this guy didn't give a damn about the police station's rules. The captain, for his part, feigned deafness and blindness in his office, not even bothering to come out and take a look.
It was as if the situation didn't exist as long as it didn't appear within his line of sight!
Jim Gordon had spent a great deal of effort finally learning from a colleague who had entered the interrogation room.
He immediately arrested that colleague and prepared to begin the interrogation directly, hoping to resolve the case in one fell swoop.
Who knew that the situation wouldn't be as simple as he'd imagined.
Even though he already knew what kind of scum the other police officers were, he was still somewhat incredulous at what had happened.
This was the police station! A witness could die during interrogation, and even the perpetrator was a police officer! If they couldn't even catch the real killer in such a situation, if they couldn't send the murderer to prison, what justice was there to speak of? The police station, which represented justice, would just be a joke.
He had already largely accepted the absurdity and depravity of the Gotham Police Department, but this still exceeded his limits.
He reasoned with the man, presented the facts, and even used interrogation techniques for criminals, but still couldn't pry his mouth open.
The name was clearly on the tip of his tongue. Everyone knew that the mastermind behind it all was a guy named Robert, but no one dared to say it.
According to judicial procedure, a name that people didn't reveal couldn't be used for an arrest. Even if everyone knew he was the murderer, it was useless as long as they couldn't connect him to the case!
Harvey walked over to Jim.
"Give up, Leegan won't talk. His life is in Robert's hands. He's been a member of their gang since the day he entered the police station. You're wasting your time trying to force him."
"If we stop now, perhaps we can still give the old guy a decent funeral."
"That's not right, Harvey, you know it's not right! I absolutely cannot accept this outcome!"
Jim's breathing became rapid as he shook his head and said, "I must arrest that bastard Robert! What does he think the police station is? A strangely shaped sewer? Are we cops all rats in the sewer?
Harvey, you must know where their warehouse is! I'm going to strike at the heart of the matter. Since they're so afraid of being exposed, I'm going to expose them directly!"
"I finally know why there's no laundry detergent in Gotham! Because the biggest laundry detergent vendor is actually a cop, what, the ***? Is there any justice left in this world? Is there any law?"
Harvey looked at the agitated Jim, a look of helplessness on his face.
Ever since he partnered with this guy, Harvey felt that his stagnant police career had suddenly come to life. The other's sense of justice had reignited his own heart. Although he hadn't explicitly expressed it, it was certainly because of this inner agreement that he had repeatedly indulged Jim and even provided assistance from the sidelines.
But he realized he was wrong. Following Jim not only reignited his police career but even ignited his life. He felt that he was constantly on the verge of self-immolation. Every time he collided with those behemoths, Harvey felt his heart twitch.
Jim was like a reckless fool, ignorant and fearless, but he was different. So many years of police work had given him a certain understanding of Gotham City's underground forces and the organizations in every corner.
Harvey felt that he was already great to have survived in such a complex web of relationships.
But now, watching Jim plunge headfirst into an even larger network of vested interests, he could no longer stop him.
Just as the two were arguing, a black child suddenly walked into the police station entrance.
The child wore a baggy hoodie and sunglasses on his dark, oily face, giving him a cool vibe. He walked to the front desk with a large box in his hand, leaned lazily against the bar, stared hard at a prostitute's thigh, and said casually, "Donut delivery, specially ordered by Officer Robert. Which way is he?"
The officer on duty didn't even lift an eyelid, continuing to crochet a delicate scarf with knitting needles. His precious son's birthday was in a few days, and he had to finish this surprise gift before then.
As for solving cases? Excuse me, never heard of it!
He came to work to slack off and collect his salary, okay?
"First table in the southwest corner. If you're not blind, you should be able to see the man sitting on the desk. That's him, yes, that arrogant-looking guy!"
The officer on duty said slowly. The black child shrugged, picked up the box, and walked inside.
When he walked near Robert, he attracted the attention of his small group. Robert's eyes showed a hint of surprise.
The black boy looked at them, put the donut box directly on the desk next to him, and said, "Officer Robert, right? Someone ordered a whole box of donuts for you!"
