American Comics: BOSS Invasion
#313 - Mexico in the near future
Mexico, a synonym for chaos.
There's a saying, 'Heaven is too far, America is too close.'
This saying made Mexico, and also destroyed it.
With the United States, the world's largest drug market, right next door, Mexico is teeming with drug traffickers. The various factions, large and small, are intertwined, and their power is so vast that even the government and police dare not provoke them.
Even the president has to act according to the whims of the drug lords. If anyone dares to openly declare a war on drugs, they will be found dead in the streets within three days.
In a small tavern in a Mexican border town, the simple wooden structure reeks of alcohol and hormones.
People are celebrating the day's earnings. In the middle of the bar, four tables are set up to form a makeshift platform, piled high with cash. There are also small boxes containing refined white powder. Several scantily clad girls are shaking their heads with glazed eyes, clearly high as kites.
With a crash, the bar door is kicked open.
Two white men, each easily over two meters tall and built like bears, stride in, dressed as bodyguards.
They look around with cold faces and stand on either side of the door.
The sudden intrusion interrupts the celebration. The music stops, and the crowd surrounds them with hostile intentions.
A burly, bald man, his upper body covered in tattoos, sizes up the two men with fierce eyes and suddenly draws a gun.
"You want to die?"
The two bodyguards don't even glance at him, treating him like air.
The man's veins throb. He chambers a bullet and presses the gun to one of the bodyguard's foreheads, growling, "Are you mute? You better give me a good explanation, or you'll die today!"
"That line lacks any punch. You might as well just shoot. It would seem more brutal!"
A voice comes from outside the door. A slender young man in a well-tailored suit walks in slowly. He wears a faint smile, both amiable and distant.
Although his words are impolite, his expression is perfect. Furthermore, as he walks, his upper body remains motionless, his shoulders as steady as mountains, his lower body moves with light steps, his hips following his legs.
Each step gives the illusion of attending a banquet with elegance.
In truth, Qi Shan has never deliberately practiced his deportment. His posture, whether walking, sitting, or lying down, has formed naturally.
Although he himself is unaware, his aura is subtly changing as the caliber of his enemies continues to rise.
"And who the hell are you?"
Realizing that Qi Shan is clearly the one in charge, the man points the gun at him directly.
"Just want to ask about something, no need to be so tense!"
Qi Shan doesn't even spare him a glance. He looks around the small bar, a hint of disappointment in his eyes.
"Although I knew Mexico was a relatively backward place, I didn't expect it to still resemble the 1960s and 70s.
I know that cutting-edge sciences like quantum physics and microbiology have been stagnant for more than half a century.
However, the field of scientific applications is developing rapidly. Scientific and mechanical medical equipment have made significant progress in recent decades.
Since I'm in the smuggling business, I should at least prepare some good weapons.
Trying to control this route with a Kuwaiti and a few broken revolvers? You must be joking."
Qi Shan's tone is calm, his face expressionless, but there's always a hint of suspicion in his eyes.
The group is furious, pulling out a pile of rifles and pistols, ready to start a fight.
Qi Shan slowly turns around, completely unconcerned.
Immediately afterward, there is a burst of chaotic gunfire, mixed with screams, the sound of wooden tables breaking, and glass shattering.
About 30 seconds later, surrounded by corpses, two men covered in tattoos kneel on the ground, trembling.
One covers his arm and head, the other hugs his head, curled up into a ball, eyes tightly closed, shivering.
Their surrender is quite practiced, flawless, clearly veterans.
Qi Shan turns his head, casually finds a stool, and sits down.
He flips his hand, and a lit cigarette appears between his fingertips.
As the smoke curls upward, Qi Shan says calmly, "I have a batch of goods I want to get across the border. Who around here does that kind of business?"
The two men exchange a look, both hesitant to speak.
"What? Don't want to answer? Or do you want me to loosen your muscles a bit?"
The two men shudder and force a smile. "We wouldn't dare!"
The leader says, "This is a border area. There are too many smugglers, but very few carriers. Most of them just transport people.
But 30 kilometers away, there's a gas station. The owner, Old Barry, has a sea vessel. I heard he's doing some kind of transport business..."
Bang! Bang!
Before he can finish speaking, the two bodyguards fire simultaneously, killing both men instantly.
Qi Shan stands up, turns, and leaves.
"That's the third group of small-time thugs. The person they mentioned is Old Barry. It seems this person has some ability after all.
In that case, I'll meet with him. Hopefully, he can meet my requirements!"
The two bodyguards follow closely behind, stepping out of the bar.
Immediately afterward, a large number of men in black rush in from outside, efficiently cleaning up the corpses. Then, they throw a dozen grenades into the small bar and quickly disappear.
Boom!
With an explosion, the bar is blown to smithereens. Given the capabilities of the Mexican police, any scene with an explosion can basically be declared a cold case!
So far, Qi Shan has not collected any useful clues.
After coming out of the space-time rift, he came directly to this Mexican border town.
In Qi Shan's impression, whether it's the Marvel or DC parallel universe, they all cause trouble with the United States as the backdrop.
Putting aside everything else, New York City alone has been demolished countless times by the enemies brought by Spider-Man and the Avengers!
Moreover, the timeline is 2029, clearly some kind of near future.
This makes Qi Shan even more puzzled.
Through the past two days of observation, Qi Shan can only say that Mexico truly lives up to its reputation. This neutral, evil land is just as fascinating in any plane of existence.
Large and small gangs, blatant drug lords, and hospital nurses who will sell drugs if you pay them enough, almost like arms dealers setting up stalls on the street.
It seems even more brazen than 20 years ago.
Qi Shan deliberately created some commotion, hoping to stir up waves and see what was lurking beneath the surface.
Unexpectedly, he wiped out three groups of small thugs in a row, and still nothing unusual happened.
Qi Shan is helpless and can only follow the established plan and execute it step by step.
