American Comics: BOSS Invasion

#389 - Something big happened

With such a major incident occurring, Jesse, as the highest-ranking officer of the Atlanta Division of the Sentinel Special Operations, felt it was his duty to investigate the matter thoroughly.

Lying in a simple tent, Jesse covered his forehead with his right hand, drifting into a restless sleep on a cot.

He had a slight fever, and his muscles ached all over.

Although his body was exhausted, his mind refused to shut down.

It had been almost a day, and the subordinates he sent out to gather information had yet to report back.

This was one advantage of being a legitimate organization.

If there were any procedural errors on paper, they could borrow resources from other law enforcement agencies.

Unfortunately, to date, neither the police department, the FBI, nor Naval Intelligence had returned any information.

In Jesse's mind, he replayed the scene over and over again.

The sudden intrusion of soldiers, the unexpected explosion, and the overwhelming firepower all left him deeply puzzled.

At that moment, a subordinate with a bandaged hand lifted the curtain and walked in: "Sir, we have news!"

"Did you find out who they are?" Jesse's eyes snapped open, and he jumped out of bed.

The subordinate smiled wryly: "No! But the autopsy results are in! There seems to be something strange, and the medical examiner wants you to come over."

The tent where the autopsies were being performed wasn't far away, and they arrived in a few minutes.

Lifting the curtain, they entered and saw nearly 20 corpses neatly arranged on the ground.

"This is my direct superior, Jesse! Doctor, you can speak freely!"

The subordinate, with a hint of helplessness on his face, spoke as they approached a doctor.

Jesse was somewhat puzzled: "What do you mean? Are they refusing to provide us with the autopsy report?"

"It's not that bad, but it's close!" The subordinate said, "Actually, the doctor came to me once, right after the autopsy started, and asked me for detailed information about these personnel.

He didn't say anything at the time, but the expression on his face was very strange, as if he had seen a headless man suddenly stand up and dance."

Jesse couldn't help but chuckle: "What kind of analogy is that?"

The doctor next to him coughed softly: "Let me explain!"

The subordinate shrugged and took a step back.

The doctor stepped forward, carefully examined Jesse, and said seriously: "Sir, I'm not very familiar with the procedures of the Sentinel Special Operations, but I imagine they're not too different.

Your reputation has been reported by various media outlets, with a lot of hype, almost portraying you as a hero. I usually don't believe it, and even find it a bit ridiculous.

While mutants are frightening, they only cause public safety issues, and are never a match for a well-organized army!

But today, after seeing these bodies, I truly felt how dangerous your work is!"

This left Jesse completely bewildered, and he quickly raised his hand to interrupt him: "Wait a minute, Doctor, I don't quite understand what you've experienced, but right now I just want to see the autopsy report, okay?"

The doctor clicked his tongue as if he had not fully expressed himself, and said with some regret: "Alright, please follow me!"

The doctor walked over and lifted a white cloth, revealing a corpse with a somewhat pale complexion.

Jesse glanced at it, slightly taken aback: "This body hasn't been dissected yet?"

The doctor shook his head: "This body is numbered one, and I personally led the team to dissect it first."

As he spoke, he handed over a tablet, the screen showing the autopsy process of this body.

Watching the surgical knife make a Y-shaped incision on the chest of the corpse in the video, and then using various medical instruments to open the sternum and examine the internal organs.

After confirming the extent of the damage, it was sewn back up.

Jesse was confused and looked at the doctor strangely.

The doctor didn't explain, but simply said: "Keep watching!"

After completing the autopsy of the first body, the doctors didn't stop, and were about to move the camera to the next body.

Suddenly, someone cried out in surprise.

Then a strange phenomenon appeared in the picture.

The corpse that had just been autopsied, with an ugly autopsy wound sewn up on its chest, was slowly healing.

The thick sutures were forced out, and the healed wound had no scars, as if the previous dissection process was just an illusion.

In the video, the doctors were shocked, and they pounced on the corpse, examining it up and down for a long time, their eyes wider than light bulbs.

But after a while, the corpse was still the same corpse, without any other abnormalities.

The doctor and several assistants discussed it, and they actually dissected the corpse again, and when they re-examined it, they were surprised to find that the internal organs that had been shattered by the explosion's shockwave had also healed.

This phenomenon was almost impossible.

Jesse's pupils trembled slightly, and a terrifying thought suddenly emerged in his mind.

He pulled up the video list on his right hand and quickly opened other autopsy videos.

Sure enough, it was similar to what he had thought. All of the nearly 20 corpses at the scene had the same characteristic.

Before the bodies were dissected, they were always in a tattered state, no different from ordinary corpses.

But once the dissection incision was made, it was as if a switch was triggered, and the cells inexplicably gained vitality.

Whether it was a wound on the body surface or a limb that was broken, it would heal in the shortest amount of time.

Even the pale color of the body surface would slowly turn rosy, as if it was a final burst of energy.

There was a corpse that was most severely impacted, with the entire lower body disappearing, and after triggering the recovery characteristic, the lower body actually grew out little by little.

When watching this video, Jesse's scalp tingled, and he almost screamed.

If it weren't for the nearly 20 corpses in front of him still lying obediently on the ground, he would have even suspected that these people were playing dead.

After he finished watching, the doctor looked at Jesse with some sympathy.

"That's the situation! Your Special Operations mainly deals with mutants, so you're probably more familiar with this kind of situation.

That's why I asked someone to call you over and ask how this kind of report should be written?

How to write the report?

Who the hell knows how to write it!

Cursing inwardly, Jesse took a deep breath, slowly exhaled, and gradually suppressed the nameless anger.

After a long while, he nodded solemnly to the doctor.

"I hope you won't disclose today's incident! There's no need to worry about some specific issues, I'll have someone handle the practical report!"

After speaking, he turned around and said to his subordinate, word by word: "Notify headquarters, something big has happened!"
