American Comics: BOSS Invasion
#412 - The Tragic Broker
Before the fire could erupt, Rocket and Groot were bound in mid-air by tractor beams.
Star-Lord and Gamora didn't escape either.
An entire Nova Corps squad was scattered in the air, surrounding them.
“Experiment 89p13, put down your weapon.”
Rocket retorted angrily, “I don’t have a weapon!”
The other side paid no heed, continuing in an icy tone: “In the name of the Nova Corps, I declare you under arrest. You are charged with endangering public safety.”
Ground police swiftly subdued the four, locked them in restraints, and then transported them one by one onto a transport ship.
The officer escorting Star-Lord seemed delighted, mocking, “Oh! If it isn’t the Star-Prince? What’s this? Petty theft no longer satisfying you? Changed to open brawling, have we?”
Star-Lord said weakly, “It’s Star-Lord!”
The 4 billion that had been within reach had vanished into thin air. He felt like dying, and had no energy to argue with anyone.
The four went through the processing procedure and, unsurprisingly, were sent to prison.
Qi Shan, however, remained hidden to the side, waiting until the four were captured and the Nova Corps squad withdrew before slowly revealing himself.
“There’s still some time! Perhaps I should go get some money first!”
Qi Shan stroked his chin, having made up his mind.
The Marvel universe's civilization is quite interesting. Although the two major empires are hostile, their currency is surprisingly unified.
Qi Shan even suspected that this might have been arranged by the Celestials to facilitate their rule.
Regardless, for Qi Shan, who was penniless and new to Earth, this was a rare piece of good news.
Weighing the Orb in his hand, Qi Shan decided to break through via the Broker.
The spectacle on the plaza had attracted a lot of attention.
When Qi Shan was fighting with the four, or rather, when the four were being played around by him, it attracted many onlookers.
It wasn’t until the Nova Corps squad arrested the four, leaving nothing exciting to watch, that the crowd dispersed cheerfully.
Xandar is a highly developed civilization. They have long broken through the shackles of their mother planet, with their territory spanning multiple galaxies.
Having conquered such a large territory, their military strength is undoubtedly formidable.
Qi Shan walked straight to the corner of the plaza and knocked on the door of an unnamed small shop that was tightly closed.
Unsurprisingly, there was no response.
Qi Shan flicked his finger, and a card-shaped phantom directly penetrated the alloy door.
With a flash of silver light, Tomie, dressed in office attire, quietly appeared in the shop.
The little old man standing behind the counter, busying himself with his own affairs, was startled. He glanced at the suddenly appearing Tomie, his sparse eyebrows furrowing slightly: “Miss, this is private property. I don’t know how you got in, but I’ll give you three seconds to leave, otherwise Xandar's prison will welcome you warmly!”
Qi Shan looked around, discovering that the shelves were filled with strange things, over 90% of which he didn't recognize.
But there was a skull that looked a lot like a goat's head, except the part below the neck was a huge fish skeleton.
Was it a goat-headed fish? Did such a creature even exist?
Qi Shan smiled, and Tomie's beautiful face bloomed like a flower. The Broker was slightly stunned, his heart, which had been dead for many years, suddenly pounding.
“As far as I know, you have a bounty on the Orb?”
The Broker became alert, but as Qi Shan gradually approached, the feeling of needing to confide grew stronger and stronger.
Standing in front of the counter, Qi Shan smiled and stared at him, the dark aura emanating from her body, like the Medusa's snakes, constantly seeping into the Broker's mind.
Having built his reputation over many years in the industry, almost rigidly adhering to his rules, the Broker broke a taboo for the first time.
His lips trembled a few times, his expression somewhat distorted, his heart clearly still struggling.
Unfortunately, facing Tomie's almost instinctive human manipulation technique, he succumbed after only a few seconds of resistance.
“That’s right, Miss! This is a long-term task from a major client, posted with me many years ago. It’s just that recently, someone discovered clues about the Orb in the Chaotic Star System.
That's why I contacted Yondu…”
“Is it this thing?” Qi Shan interrupted him.
“I need to scan it, but judging from its appearance, it should be it!”
The Broker hesitated for a moment, then said: “But now I'm a little afraid to accept it, because Ronan the Accuser is also eyeing the Orb. He is a Kree fanatic with an entire fleet. If he discovers the Orb is on Xandar, he will not hesitate to attack this place! I can’t…”
Too much nonsense, Qi Shan rolled her eyes.
“Take it and give me the reward!”
The Broker quickly agreed, rummaging through the small cabinet behind him, then took out a scanner and scanned Tomie.
“What are you doing?”
“Opening a new account, exclusively for you! It belongs to the Nova Bank Consortium, and every inhabited planet has their offices.
Take this; it's the login terminal for the bank network.”
The Broker pushed a small metal piece over. Qi Shan picked it up and fiddled with it briefly, discovering that it was indeed a strange electronic device.
“100,000 Star Credits?” Qi Shan asked in surprise: “Why did I hear that the bounty was 4 billion?”
The Broker's face changed, and he quickly shook his head: “That’s impossible! Don’t dwell on such small matters. Our transaction is complete; you can leave now!”
Qi Shan asked again twice, even using negative mind power to strengthen the human manipulation technique, but to no avail.
It seemed that his obsession with money was much stronger than his concern for his safety.
Qi Shan shook her head. No wonder he was a Broker!
Turning around and walking out, Tomie handed the “bank card” to Qi Shan's main body, then quietly dissipated.
The number in the upper right corner of the Tomie card in her body decreased by one.
Qi Shan smiled softly and turned to leave.
Inside the shop, the Broker was still standing there in a daze.
His brain seemed to be torn into two parts. One part was still reminiscing about Tomie's appearance, lost in intoxication.
The other part was screaming madly, constantly radiating fear.
Ronan the Accuser, the Orb, Tomie, four billion Star Credits.
These words floated in his mind in turn, spinning wildly.
He suddenly shivered and woke up with a start, staring blankly at the Orb in his hand, so frightened that he took several steps back, crashing directly into the wall.
“Damn it, what did that woman do to me? I actually announced that the mission was complete! Now everyone knows the Orb is in my hands.
No, I absolutely can’t keep it in my hands. I have to hand it over to the Collector now!”
The Broker abruptly stepped forward, grabbed the Orb, and was about to run out.
But after only two steps, he stopped in astonishment. Looking down, he saw that the Orb in his hand had actually broken in half, the broken stub emanating the sweet scent of dark chocolate.
“No!”
A wail startled the passersby at the door.
