American Comics: BOSS Invasion
#612 - Robert Jr.
Philadelphia, southern part of the city.
A peaceful neighborhood, with few people on the streets. The sun has already set, and every house is lit up. Occasionally, some fragrance wafts out, clearly indicating it's dinner time.
Suddenly, the peaceful daily life is shattered by intense gunfire.
To the south, flames suddenly erupt, with gunshots, stray bullets, cannon fire, and shouts filling the air.
The sounds carry over from afar, extremely chaotic, as if a large group of people are besieging something huge.
However, judging from their flustered and exasperated tones, the mission is clearly not going smoothly.
Robert pushed open the small window of the attic and extended a crudely made periscope. He peered anxiously through the small hole at the end for a long time before finally sighing helplessly.
Only then did he dejectedly retract his secret weapon.
The movement was slightly rough, and the front end of the periscope bumped against the eaves, making a soft 'click' sound.
Immediately, a familiar roar came from below.
"Robert, what are you up to again?"
"I'm doing my homework! Dad! This is the most crucial time for my train of thought, please don't interrupt me!"
Robert replied, retracting his little head into the attic, and then carefully closed the window, finally letting out a long breath.
He glanced at the secret weapon in his hand, somewhat disappointed, and placed it aside.
He had spent three afternoons making it, but he didn't expect it to be useless.
Does he really have to borrow a small drone from Bob? But he really hates Bob's arrogant attitude.
But, if he doesn't borrow it, how will he be able to see the secrets inside?
Robert scratched his head.
The atmosphere in Philadelphia had felt somewhat off for the past month.
At first, it was just the frequent deployment of police, and one could hear sirens wailing past from time to time. Then, news channels began to unify their coverage on a large scale.
Originally, the news programs on Philadelphia TV stations reported on a wide variety of things, with very little overlap in material and information, unless it was a particularly major event.
But recently, Robert keenly noticed that the unified pace of these news programs had begun to extend to trivial matters.
If it wasn't that the various TV stations were fighting, then they must be covering up something major.
Only when there wasn't enough major news would they use frivolous news stories to fill the time gap.
He had understood this principle when he was in sixth grade.
Moreover, he is now in eighth grade.
And the vast majority were zombies who would disappear forever after posting once.
The only people truly active in the forum, besides him, the owner, added up to no more than three people.
Although he still hasn't figured out how his forum miraculously came to life, that doesn't stop him from feeling a sense of accomplishment.
So, in order to maintain his dominant position as the forum owner, he plans to post the mysterious events he's discovered nearby online.
He discovered this matter unintentionally.
Two weeks ago, Robert got lost while riding his bicycle and inadvertently ended up in another community to the south.
Unexpectedly, the seemingly unremarkable community was surrounded by military personnel.
These people were very well hidden. If they hadn't suddenly jumped out to block Robert's path, he wouldn't have noticed that there were people nearby.
Because of this incident, Robert began to pay attention to the nearby neighborhoods.
Originally, he was just an eighth-grade student, and his social circle only included his school, his little friends, and his family.
Not to mention the neighboring neighborhoods, he probably didn't even understand his own neighborhood very well.
But after this incident, he began to investigate intentionally, both openly and secretly.
After much investigation, he discovered that no one had entered or exited the neighboring community for more than a month.
The military presence appeared a week ago, but at first, their numbers were much smaller.
Now they have more than doubled, and according to Robert's observation, they are abandoning the use of sentries and preparing to blatantly blockade the entire community.
It felt as if there was some kind of pollutant in the community.
Robert immediately thought of zombies, and he even posted his guess on the forum.
However, it was met with ridicule from the forum users.
One netizen provided information, saying that a terrifying series of murders had occurred in that neighborhood a month ago.
After the police investigated without success, they handed the case over to the FBI, and later it alarmed the military.
Robert carefully observed, and these troops were indeed acting as if they were facing a formidable enemy.
And without him having to investigate further, on the third day after he discovered the military, before dawn, intense gunfire suddenly erupted over there.
The flames flashed until dawn, and the matter was settled only when the sun had fully risen.
Since then, intense gunfire has erupted almost every night.
Sometimes it was late at night, sometimes it was before dawn, and sometimes it was simply in the evening, when the sun had just set.
Moreover, the military had mobilized a large number of simple isolation barriers, sealing off the entire community, with walls as high as five meters.
It was as if they had transformed that community into a prison!
People in the surrounding communities were reminded by the military to stay away.
The committee also solemnly summoned representatives from each family to reiterate the matter.
Such a solemn display only made Robert more curious.
His heart felt like it was being scratched by a little mouse, unbearably itchy.
After enduring it for several days, he finally thought of making a large periscope, trying to observe the internal situation from a distance.
He didn't expect his first attempt to be a complete failure, and he almost exposed his tracks.
At this time, his mother's voice came from downstairs.
"Robert, dinner's ready!"
"Okay, Mom, give me five minutes, I'll be right down!"
He opened his computer and posted the beginning and end of this attempted operation.
Just as he was about to close the computer and go down for dinner, a private message suddenly popped up.
"Do you really want to know the secrets of this world? Even if it means risking your life?"
"Of course!" Robert replied without hesitation.
"Then be a righteous warrior, don't let it down!"
A picture popped up, depicting a simple, ancient-looking chakra ring.
