American Comics: BOSS Invasion
#618 - test
Fire Style: Grand Fireball Technique!
Fire Style: Ash Pile Burning!
In the empty underground testing ground, two streams of intense flames erupted from the small body, one after the other.
The first flame quickly formed a giant fireball with a diameter of 10 meters, melting a one-cubic-meter alloy target in front of it into liquid.
The second flame, after flying out two or three meters, rapidly transformed into a cloud of white mist, swirling around the molten liquid like a sentient being.
As teeth collided, a sound akin to a lit fuse reached their ears, followed by an instantaneous explosion.
The immense power not only shook the underground space but utterly destroyed the target. Fragments flew in all directions, creating a web of fine cracks on the thick tempered glass in front of the observation deck.
The researchers gaped, their eyes nearly popping out of their sockets.
Although they had seen the surveillance footage and knew this kid was special, they never imagined that the flames spewing from his mouth would not only have a core temperature exceeding 1500 degrees but also produce an effect comparable to a C4 explosion.
It was simply unbelievable.
The researchers went wild, their eyes gleaming as they looked at Robert, eager to dissect him immediately and send him to the lab for all sorts of experiments.
Simmons smiled, deeply gratified.
This was a superhuman he had discovered and championed against all opposition.
His power clearly didn't belong to him but came from that strange ring.
The Ninth Bureau's scientific research capabilities, while not necessarily the best in America, were definitely among the top tier.
Coupled with the continuous research on Megatron by the team at the Hoover Dam's secret base for so many years, figuring out how to use a small ring should be a piece of cake.
In his eyes, Robert was just a sample.
The Chakra Ring was the main focus.
Unfortunately, his idea was good, and his dream was grand, but reality always had a way of slapping him in the face.
Robert's test wasn't over yet, but the head of the research team responsible for the Chakra Ring came to him with a face as if his father had died.
Simmons was startled by his expression, instinctively sensing something bad.
"What's going on? What happened?"
The research team leader shook his head, unwilling to even speak. He took out a small petri dish from his pocket, showing him the Chakra Ring inside, now grayish-white and broken in half.
Simmons' eyes widened, and he grabbed the research team leader by the collar, demanding in a sharp voice, "What have you done? How could this happen?"
The research team leader gave a wry smile: "We didn't do anything. We just checked its composition, tested its radiation level and infrared transmissivity, and found nothing unusual compared to ordinary wooden handicrafts."
"And then?"
This process was entirely within Simmons' expectations.
After all, it was a magical item. If scientists could easily find its secrets, it wouldn't have taken this long to discover it.
The research team leader shook his head: "Then we watched the surveillance footage again, and someone suggested wearing the ring together for a test. After that… after that, it became like this!"
"What do you mean?"
"As soon as the ring was put on a finger, it was as if it had been poisoned. The material rapidly decayed, and the originally hard material became dry and brittle.
With a slight touch, it broke into two pieces.
Everyone in the lab panicked and quickly found something to store it in, in case any external force was applied, it might immediately turn into…"
Before the research team leader could finish explaining, Simmons snatched the petri dish, and at that moment, the ring inside instantly turned into a pile of powder.
Simmons was stunned.
The research team leader was also startled, but he still stammered the rest of his sentence: "Dust…"
The two stared at each other for a while, and Simmons handed the petri dish back to the research team leader with a dark face.
"Analyze it!"
"We already did. It's just wood ash, no different from the ash after burning ordinary wood."
Just then, several experimentalists on the observation deck exclaimed in surprise.
Simmons quickly turned his head.
He suddenly saw a small bud sprouting from the middle finger of Robert's right hand, circling his middle finger like a living thing and transforming into a wooden ring.
As the substance changed from tender to hard, and the color gradually changed from green to brown, a Chakra Ring reappeared in just a few seconds.
Robert was also surprised, examining it carefully.
Sensing the unfamiliar power, it seemed no different from the previous one.
The observer exclaimed: "Could this thing replicate itself?"
"That would be great!"
"Impossible, how could there be such an incredible thing as self-replication? Could it be that this ring looks like wood on the surface, but it's actually made of quantum materials?"
Simmons' face darkened even further, and he cursed inwardly: Quantum your sister's materials!
He strode over, shooed away the researchers, and demanded that they quickly come up with a reliable plan to help Robert fully master his power and continue to develop the ring's power.
Simmons, without waiting for the research team leader to complain, walked off the observation deck, pushed open the door, and entered the testing ground.
"Robert, let me see the new ring that appeared in your hand!"
Simmons hurried over, his target directly the Chakra Ring.
Robert wasn't stupid either, saying, "Sir, I've already given you one. This thing is very precious. Shouldn't you return the previous ring to me first?"
"Uh…"
Simmons hesitated for a moment, then took out the petri dish from his pocket.
Robert glanced at it, seemingly not surprised.
"We didn't do anything, just had someone wear it for a while, and it quickly withered and turned to ashes. At the same time, a ring grew back on your hand."
As he said this, Simmons felt a little aggrieved.
Robert nodded, easily believing him.
"It seems I guessed right. I'm the chosen one. This ring only recognizes me as its master. Mr. Simmons, it seems I've disappointed you!"
"No! Not at all. I'm happy for you instead!"
Simmons put on a serious face and patted Robert on the shoulder: "I've always believed that humans are born with a mission, just as I'm destined to be a special agent, safeguarding American national security and protecting civilians so they can live and work in peace.
And your mission is even greater. You will become a new generation of superhero, traveling around the world, eliminating the monsters that technology cannot defeat, and restoring peace to the Earth!"
Simmons said earnestly, enduring Robert's gaze as if he were an idiot, and finally looked at Robert with hopeful eyes.
Robert shivered, subconsciously taking a step back.
"Mr. Simmons, actually, even if you didn't say that, I would have agreed to be recruited, as long as the salary is good!"
"… No problem!"
