American Comics: BOSS Invasion
#826 - Landing on the beach
"Everyone, don't panic! Don't panic!"
Jack Shepherd shouted on the beach, pulling a middle-aged man with a leg injury from under a broken piece of debris.
Fortunately, the soft sand made the rescue work much easier.
If it had been a concrete surface, probably more than half of the 40-odd survivors would have been buried under the rubble, with no chance of survival without specialized rescue equipment.
The plane crashed inexplicably, and everyone was in a panic, instinctively running away from the crash site.
The engine explosion injured many people, each covered in blood, unsure if it was their own or someone else's.
Jack was a surgeon, and although his career had ended just hours before, he couldn't forget his duty to heal the wounded.
Almost instinctively, he began to rescue all the injured.
Those he rescued were infected by his spirit, and those with lighter injuries spontaneously joined the rescue effort.
Helping others was indeed a powerful influence; the crowd, which had been panicking just moments before, quickly calmed down in this atmosphere.
Everyone worked together, trying to salvage whatever they could and using their own methods to put out the fire, throwing sand or fetching seawater.
The group toiled for over two hours, finally extinguishing the flames engulfing half the plane. Watching the smoke rise and gradually disappear, everyone collapsed on the beach, exhausted.
Carter Ashton had been coldly observing Jack, observing everyone.
Judging by her appearance alone, Carter was definitely a rare beauty.
She had a well-proportioned figure and beautiful brown hair, with fair skin. Even though she wore camouflage pants and only a military vest on top, it couldn't hide her exquisite figure.
But Carter was a fugitive, wanted by the American police and the FBI. She had been on the run for years and had a record of resisting arrest.
Although her solo combat skills couldn't compare to those of elite soldiers, she was quick-witted and had an exaggerated ability to persuade, usually able to blend into a small group with just a few words and quickly gain a leadership position.
It was precisely because of this that Carter was labeled a dangerous person by every government agency.
Before boarding the plane, Carter had been caught in a carefully laid trap. Flying back to America was also to appear in court.
She simply hadn't expected the plane to suddenly crash mid-flight.
For freedom and safety, Carter had to be even more careful.
There was a guard on this flight, but Carter didn't know who it was.
She first had to find this person, then figure out how to escape during the rescue process and regain her freedom.
Carter had been watching Jack's activity.
On the surface, Jack seemed like a medical worker dedicated to public service. Regardless of his medical skills, his spirit of saving people was commendable, like a true surgeon.
But something about his expression and mental state seemed off.
So Carter couldn't rule out his suspicion in the short term. She needed to use Jack as a clue to gradually understand the remaining survivors.
Seeing Jack help stitch up a thigh wound for an injured person, covered in sweat, he staggered to a large tree and leaned gently against the trunk.
Carter's eyes flickered, and she strode over.
"Doctor!"
Jack looked up, a little nervous, and said, "That's right, I'm a doctor. Are you injured anywhere?"
"Not at all. I guess I'm one of the lucky ones!"
Jack handed over a small sewing kit.
Sure enough, it was just a needle and thread, the kind ordinary people use to mend clothes, with no connection to surgical instruments whatsoever.
"Any favorite color?"
Carter took the sewing kit and glanced at the colorful spools of thread, making a joke with a straight face.
But Jack, who should have responded, was now staring at the sky.
At the same time, someone was heard shouting on the beach.
"Parachute! I saw a parachute!"
"Good heavens, did someone parachute out just now?"
"If I had known, I would have taken out the parachute under my seat! The impact of the plane crash has left my back aching!"
The voices were noisy, and amidst a series of jokes, a red parachute slowly and leisurely descended onto the beach.
The person below looked ordinary, wearing a gray suit. His face was typically Asian, but beneath his somewhat short hair and the slightly upturned corners of his eyes, he seemed to possess a sharp aura.
Qi Shan maintained a standard landing posture, bending slightly and slowly lunging forward a few steps to dissipate the force.
Then, he turned around and quickly rolled the parachute into a ball, stuffing it into the backpack behind him.
After getting everything sorted out, he turned back and looked at the people in front of him, smiling and saying, "Looks like I'm in luck!"
A fat man with a ramen noodle hairstyle asked curiously, "Hey, buddy, how did you..."
Before he could finish speaking, Qi Shan said expressionlessly, "Don't mention it again. I really don't want to relive the scene of the plane breaking apart! If I hadn't been quick-witted and grabbed a parachute pack, I probably would have been thrown straight into the vast ocean like the others, only to end up with no remains!"
The fat man was silent, and everyone else fell silent.
Although they knew it was impossible, they still held hope that Qi Shan was someone sent by a rescue team.
Unfortunately, both reason and reality told them that this was impossible.
Qi Shan was also one of the stranded people, just even more unlucky, having been thrown out directly when the plane broke apart.
Fortunately, he grabbed a parachute pack and was able to land safely on the ground.
Compared to Qi Shan, even though they had some minor injuries, they were actually quite lucky!
