American Comics: BOSS Invasion
#848 - Small town fog
After finishing his meal and casually tossing down a piece of silver, Qi Shan had no intention of conversing with Old Luo. He lifted the curtain and walked straight out.
However, Old Luo seemed to discern something different about Qi Shan. Just as he stepped out of the tavern, he suddenly called out, “If you’re thinking of going to that town behind the mountain, I advise you to abandon the idea!”
Qi Shan raised an eyebrow, a hint of a smile playing on his lips. “Oh? Everyone else can go, but why can’t I? I see you all chatting away here, constantly talking about some town, something about weirdness and black mist. Such marvelous things, how can I not see them with my own eyes?”
Old Luo coughed twice, then took out a foot-long pipe from behind the counter. He must have added something to the bowl because it had a purplish hue from a distance.
The tobacco was lit, and the old man carefully took a puff, holding it in his mouth for a long time before reluctantly exhaling.
Then, he immediately extinguished the pipe, as if the tobacco was extremely precious.
Qi Shan’s heart stirred. Could it be the purple herb they mentioned earlier?
“Young man, my tavern has only been open for six months, but six years ago, I had the same idea as you. I also learned about this magical town by chance. Unable to suppress the curiosity in my heart, I went in to explore, and that’s how I became like this!”
Old Luo’s wrinkled eyelids lifted slightly, his cloudy eyes not even looking in Qi Shan’s direction, as he said faintly, “I’ve said my piece. Whether you listen or not is up to you!”
Qi Shan smiled faintly, “You old fellow are interesting. Wait for me! I’ll come back and see you after I return!”
“If you can return!”
Old Luo slowly uttered these words after Qi Shan left.
He thought Qi Shan hadn’t heard him, but in reality, Qi Shan heard everything clearly. With his current sensory abilities, even if Old Luo was only muttering softly, even if he didn't speak, Qi Shan could sense what he was thinking in his heart with just a glance.
After his power recovered, Qi Shan felt that the energy within his body seemed even more flexible, able to be commanded like an extension of his arm. Skills like Kagura Mind’s Eye, which used to be a wide-ranging search ability, could only provide a comprehensive perception within a circular radius.
But now, he could freely point in a direction, using a simple fan-shaped scan to detect any details within that area.
Qi Shan had been using the Kagura Mind’s Eye to keep a distant watch on Brother Li and the twin-tailed girl's group.
As expected, they followed the narrow path behind the official road up the mountain. After crossing a mountaintop and walking for a while, they slowly descended, passing through a small dense forest before approaching the entrance to the valley town.
Upon reaching here, the poisonous smoke and eerie mist from within the town began to spread outwards little by little.
The members of Brother Li’s team exchanged glances. It wasn’t their first time here, but the danger was still unpredictable, and death could strike at any moment.
But they had no choice but to come. Going in was a must. Whether they could return alive and obtain the purple herb depended on their luck and effort.
The group exchanged glances and resolutely walked into the narrow crevice between the stone walls. As long as they walked along the stone wall for dozens of meters, submerging their bodies in the mist, it would be equivalent to entering the town.
The teams that followed were either hesitant or went straight in.
Those who regretted it today didn’t dare to linger at the entrance of the valley. Instead of returning the way they came, they went in another direction. Judging from the results, they should be able to bypass the valley town from that direction and directly reach the capital.
So, by the time Qi Shan arrived, there wasn’t a single person around.
Qi Shan was very curious about these dense mists. The mist wasn’t pure white; although the visibility was very low, there was still a faint trace of black smoke mixed in.
He tentatively touched the mist, but it seemed to playfully run away from his palm.
Qi Shan smiled and walked straight in.
This strange power was indeed a bit odd. It could suppress the detection ability of Chakra to a certain extent. Even though Kagura Mind’s Eye had been activated, it could only detect a little over three meters.
One had to know that the detection radius of this skill was measured in kilometers.
The interior of the valley was indeed shrouded in mists of varying densities. With ordinary eyesight, one could see at most one meter away, and that was only when there was a light source.
If one didn’t light a torch or carry a lantern, the visibility would only be about fifty centimeters.
One could barely see their own feet.
However, from what Qi Shan could currently detect, everything was in a spotless state. There wasn’t a single place where dust had accumulated, and it didn’t look like an old town that had been abandoned for decades.
Even stranger, Qi Shan suddenly heard the sound of iron chains dragging on the ground.
Clatter… clatter… clatter…
Qi Shan stopped and looked in the direction of the sound. His vision was shrouded by the mist, but the sound was unaffected.
As the sounds gradually approached, the mist in front of him began to churn, and a tall shadow wearing a suit of pitch-black armor emerged from within.
The entire person, including their head, was wrapped in heavy metal, giving the feeling of an Iron Pagoda.
Except for the necessary openings left in the head to allow the eyes to see outside and breathe air, there wasn’t a single gap in the rest of the armor, as if it had been welded shut during its creation.
As the armored figure moved, each step it took caused a wisp of black mist to rise from its feet, quickly merging into the mist in the air.
Qi Shan carefully sensed it. As expected, this thing had no signs of life.
He even tentatively tried to use a Symbiotic Bond, but without a subjective consciousness, there was naturally nothing to seize, so the skill failed for the first time!
The tall figure walked to a few steps away from Qi Shan, gently raised its right hand, and then an ear-piercing whistling sound came from his ear. A thick chain swept across.
Qi Shan was just preparing to take the hit and see how capable this guy was when the chain almost brushed past Qi Shan's side and directly swept away a short shed behind him.
He heard a crack, and the shed crashed to the ground. Before the dust could settle, a familiar figure tumbled several times and rolled out from the collapsed shed.
Qi Shan was slightly stunned: Why isn't it coming for me?
Taking a closer look, that person was actually Brother Li, whom he had met in the tavern earlier.
This big brother was covered in cold sweat, holding a horizontal blade in both hands, his eyes fixed on the armored figure, with a hint of deathly gray in his eyes.
“Eerie Iron Pagoda, damn it! How could I encounter such a big guy as soon as I came in!”
