Anime: About That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime
#33 - ·Hell.....Picture Scroll...
Neat and clean streets, small courtyards blooming with various colorful flowers, bright and warm sunlight, rows of orderly and beautiful houses—all this wonderful scenery now filled Tuka with an uncontrollable sense of dread.
That instinctive fear felt as though a pair of greedy eyes were staring at him from within the area ahead, and this silent, desolate zone was 'its' gaping maw, waiting to devour everything.
"Ah!!! Help! Help! Save me… Ah…"
Suddenly, a shrill scream echoed from a distant house, but it ceased abruptly the next second. If the echo hadn't lingered in the street, Tuka would have doubted whether his intense nervousness had caused him to hallucinate.
"Captain, what should we do?"
Scar gripped his longsword tightly, beads of sweat pouring down his forehead. Yet, he remained vigilant, scanning their surroundings, unconsciously shielding Nana to ensure her safety in case of danger.
"Retreat! Return to the Adventurers' Guild immediately and inform everyone about the situation here!"
After glancing in the direction of the earlier cry for help, Tuka issued the order to retreat without hesitation. His mind was in complete chaos. The news he had heard from the Adventurers' Guild and everything Gordon had seen in the wealthy district had given rise to a notion he didn't even want to believe.
But Tuka knew that now was not the time to uncover the truth. As the captain, he had to lead his team away from this dangerous place. As for the person who had just cried out for help, Tuka could only offer a silent apology.
After all, their team's strength was limited, and he couldn't risk his teammates' lives for a stranger. Most importantly, Tuka knew that the person who had cried out for help was most likely dead by now.
"Yes!"
Keith and Nina nodded, executing Tuka's order without hesitation. Gordon, being the most agile and nimble, took the lead, acting as the team's eyes, constantly watching out for unseen enemies.
Keith and Nina walked in the center, while Tuka, as the captain, brought up the rear. The entire team formed an arrowhead shape as they slowly retreated.
About a dozen minutes later, when Tuka's team finally heard the sound of people talking in the distance, their tense expressions relaxed slightly. Although they hadn't encountered any danger along the way, the eerie feeling from the wealthy district still lingered in their minds.
"Hurry, let's go to the Adventurers' Guild immediately. We must tell everyone what's happening in the wealthy district, or something terrible will happen!"
Upon seeing the bustling crowd on the street in the distance, Tuka finally put away his shield. He turned his head with a solemn expression to look at the wealthy district in the distance. Even though he had left, the unease and fear in Tuka's heart grew even more intense, as if everything now was merely the calm before the storm.
"Wait, Captain, what's that!"
Suddenly, Nina stopped Tuka, who was about to leave, trembling as she pointed to an alleyway not far away. The shadows within the alley were twisting and changing, and monstrous creatures nearly two meters tall were crawling out, their scarlet eyes fixed on them.
"It's a monster… Run!"
Tuka followed Nina's gaze and saw a continuous stream of Shadow Guards emerging from the shadows. Looking at the tide of monsters, Tuka understood why the wealthy district had become like that.
The next moment, Tuka roared and pulled Nana and Keith, who were standing beside him in a daze, running towards their home. He knew that facing so many monsters, the city was doomed to destruction. At this moment, Tuka only wanted to take his family and teammates and escape, far away.
As for resistance, if the City Lord of Aerechia hadn't left, Tuka might have been willing to fight to the death to protect his home. But now, with the city's high-end combat power and the City Lord, who was the backbone, leaving in advance, it meant that they had all been completely abandoned.
"Ahhh! Monsters! There are monsters!"
"Save me! I don't want to die!"
"Mommy, Mommy, where are you?"
"Damn monsters, get out of here!"
"…"
The next moment, the whole city erupted into chaos. Not only in the alley that Tuka and his team had seen earlier, but monsters were also pouring out from all directions in the city. Residents who had been chatting, working, and enjoying life just a second ago were instantly killed or injured. Their bodies were easily torn apart by the Shadow Guards' claws, and their heads were crushed by their mouths full of fangs.
Scarlet blood instantly dyed the stone-paved streets red. A child who had been crying and searching for his parents just a second ago was now lying on the ground, his head rolling away, his tender face still bearing fear and tears.
Some adventurers began to fight with the Shadow Guards, but facing the endless stream of Shadow Guards, the adventurers were soon overwhelmed, their bodies torn into pieces of flesh by the Shadow Guards' sharp claws, and their internal organs and blood flowed all over the ground.
Crack!
At this moment, an adventurer who had exhausted all his strength to kill a Shadow Guard and was kneeling on the ground wiping the blood from his face suddenly heard a strange sound coming from under his feet. But before he could see clearly, the stone slab under his feet shattered, and a dark red tentacle emerged from it.
Pfft!
"What on earth is happening… Why are there so many monsters… Is this a punishment from the gods… Who can save us…"
The adventurer, whose body had been pierced by the tentacle and was hanging in mid-air, looked at the hellish scene below. A continuous stream of Shadow Guards was wantonly slaughtering everything in sight. Infants in swaddling clothes were crushed, young children were torn in half while crying, and parents rushed towards the monsters in front of them to allow their children to escape, but in the end, they were torn into pieces by the Shadow Guards in front of their children.
On the edge of the town, a continuous stream of tentacles stretched out from the ground, killing all life that approached the edge of the city. At this moment, the entire city had become a cage, and the humans living in the city were birds waiting for death.
"City Lord… Please save your people… Save us…"
A resident whose chest had been pierced by a tentacle in mid-air finished his last words, his body and soul devoured by the tentacle, his body turned into charred fragments and fell down, smashing on the blood-stained stone slabs and turning into dust.
At this moment, the entire city of Aerechia had become a true hell on earth. Fresh blood gathered together and flowed into the sewers. The air was filled with a pungent smell of blood. The streets covered with corpses were filled with wails, fighting, and crying, creating a painting called Hell.
