Annihilation of the solar system

Chapter 43: The Script of the Supporting Actors

There was light rain falling in the sky, and the whole of Washington was shrouded in a hazy haze.

A black Lincoln slid silently through the inner driveway and drove straight to the gate of the White House.

Anderson, the deputy director of the Secret Service, was wearing a black suit and had been standing at the door for a long time. The light rain kept falling and he was already soaked. He is a veteran of the Marine Corps. Although he has retired for a long time, he still follows the tradition of not taking shelter from the rain.

Seeing Lincoln approaching, he took a step forward, opened the car door himself, and said respectfully:

"Sir, this is Secret Service Anderson."

An old man with gray hair slowly got out of the car, and the Secret Service agent next to him immediately stepped forward and held an umbrella for him.

The old man pushed the umbrella away casually, letting the raindrops fall on his suit, and said to the agent:

"No need, I'm also a Marine Corps veteran."

He turned to Anderson again and smiled:

"I know you, Anderson, you're the last SEAL captain."

Anderson stood at attention, "Yes, sir."

Berg patted him on the shoulder and joked:

"I'm your new SEAL Team Captain."

Anderson had a look of reverence on his face:

"Yes, I have seen your photo in the honor room. You are an excellent demolition expert and street fighting tactic expert."

"Any more?"

"Also...nicknamed 'Mad Dog'!"

Berg laughed:

"Yes, young man, I am the 'mad dog', by the way, a red-necked general, an extreme hawk, a warmonger, the most dangerous Yankee, Hitler's cadet, n, this is the correct answer."

The two walked into the gate of the White House. Berg looked at the spire of the White House.

"Is the sissy here?"

Anderson replied:

"Speaker of the House of Representatives, Mr. Bruce, arrived at the White House half an hour ago and is now waiting for you in the White House Strategic Intelligence Room with the President, the Vice President, the National Security Adviser, the Secretary of State, General Milley, Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, and Professor Sally, the Chief Scientific Adviser.

"

Berg nodded, subconsciously speeding up his pace, and Anderson followed closely. The two walked through the hall, turned around the corridor, took the elevator down to the basement level, and arrived at the conference room not long after. Berg knocked on the door and pushed the door open.

.I saw President Isaac sitting upright at the end of the table, and a group of officials were seated on both sides.

Seeing Berg coming in, President Isaac stood up immediately, and the two shook hands tightly. President Isaac smiled and said:

"As a Republican president, I should want you to be the first person to arrive at the White House."

Berg said helplessly:

"There was a lot of dissent in the Senate, and I didn't get authorization until the last minute."

Berger glanced at House Speaker Bruce again:

"Since we lost the House of Representatives in the midterm elections last year, we have to face this result now."

President Isaac frowned and said:

"This is an opportunity. The Chinese are already ahead of us, and the American people will not allow us to fall behind the Chinese."

Berg suddenly became furious:

"Then you should have voted for us last fucking year."

He took a breath, calmed down slightly, and said disdainfully:

"The American people will be furious in the streets and shout that America is the greatest, but as long as the stock market jumps and Wall Street says a few words, they will immediately turn into castrated chickens."

President Isaac was silent for a while:

"No matter what, I hope I can fight for it."

The two walked back to the conference table and sat down. President Isaac nodded to everyone and signaled the meeting to begin.

National Security Advisor Green stood up immediately. He is a typical Irish-American with red hair and a thin face.

He opened the folder and said to everyone:

"Dear gentlemen, thank you all for coming to the meeting. I believe you have received the briefing and follow-up information on this incident before, so I will not repeat it here. The White House hopes to reach an agreement on radio silence here today."

He turned to Professor Sally, the White House chief science adviser, and asked:

"First of all, Professor Sally, based on the Chinese judgment of extraterrestrial civilization, does the scientific community have a clear conclusion? In other words, how can we be sure that this is not a Chinese political hoax?"

Professor Sally is a famous American physicist and a tenured professor at the University of California, Berkeley. He is extremely knowledgeable in his professional field and became famous at a young age. He and his research partners won the Nobel Prize in Physics at the age of 34, and he has been invited since the age of 37.

A reviewer of "Science", he is widely respected in the global scientific community. He is 74 years old, short in stature, with white hair. He has always been taciturn and concise. He rarely accepts media interviews and never participates in academic struggles.

Except for necessary academic exchanges, he rarely goes out, earning him the nickname "Silent Sally".

When asked by the national security adviser, he replied: "It's not a hoax."

Green was stunned and waited for further explanation.

After a few minutes of silence, Green asked helplessly again:

"So, Professor Sully, on what basis did you decide that the other party was not a scientific hoax?"

"Based on existing research data published by Chinese scientists."

"Is there a possibility, I mean what if, the other party just puts forward a theory, a theory that is far away and cannot be verified, but this theory is scientifically logical and self-consistent, in order to cover up the political and military attacks on the United States?

"

Professor Sally was like a rock. He was silent for a while, shook his head and said:

"impossible."

Green was slightly angry,

"You're so sure. You have to know that we also proposed a 'Star Wars' plan to the Soviet Union back then."

Professor Sully’s face was expressionless:

"We'll know the result in three days, so no."

All the officials in the conference room touched their foreheads one after another. Green felt helpless and asked:

"Are you so sure?"

Professor Sully replied:

"I am sure."

Seeing that Green wanted to ask more questions, President Isaac knocked on the table:

"Then, gentlemen, at least we can initially confirm that this silent action by the Chinese is truly to confirm a result that may threaten the survival of mankind."

He touched his nose and said with some distress:

"It sounds a little like a Hollywood script, but... since the science is so certain, we can only make decisions based on that."

He looked towards General Milley, Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff:

"General, assuming we also have radio silence, how likely are we to launch a surprise attack from the Chinese or Russians? You know, the American people don't want to be afraid of this."

General Milley nodded:

"Mr. President, on the contrary, the Chinese are now full of fear of the United States. I just got out of a long phone call with China's General Li just an hour ago."

"So you don't think they have any ill intentions towards the United States?"

General Milley nodded:

"Mr. President, from a military perspective, during those ten hours, you can understand that the Chinese were almost militarily defenseless."

Berg suddenly interjected:

"So, Milly, does this mean there might be a chance we can do something?"

General Milley shrugged:

"Theoretically there is a chance, but in fact, based on my understanding of the Chinese, they have at least three or more plans to wake up within two or three minutes after being attacked, and then launch the most ferocious counterattack."

With a stern look on his face, he continued to say to Berg:

"Mr. Berg, the Pentagon does not have the ability to completely destroy a big country in a few minutes. In fact, we can't do it, and neither can the Chinese and Russians. No one can do it."

Berg retreated into his chair with some disappointment. President Isaac smiled and said:

"So according to your judgment, assuming that the United States also enters silence, we are also safe?"

General Mili nodded and said:

"Yes, Mr. President, the Pentagon can come up with at least ten more plans to wake up the defense system within two minutes of a sudden attack and then launch a counterattack."

He turned to look at everyone and said slowly:

"I'm sure the Russians know this, the Chinese know this, and the entire NATO knows this. This is a consensus. China's General Li and Russia's General Sergey are very aware of this. In fact, every year we

They will spend a lot of time and energy to ensure that each other knows about this matter without any suspicion. This is one of the most important jobs of the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff."

The conference room was silent for a while, and President Isaac smiled and said:

"The American people thank you, General Milley."

General Mili smiled bitterly:

"Mr. President, actually you have at least three people to thank."

President Isaac smiled:

"Then thank you three generals."

He then said to everyone in the room:

"The situation should be clear. The matter is back to the space competition. The Chinese should prove that they are more worthy of the role of human leader than the United States, just like the Apollo moon landing game many years ago. As the United States of America

President, I hope to meet this challenge."

He then said to Bruce, the Speaker of the House of Representatives:

"Mr. Speaker, the American people are not afraid of challenges. The whole world is looking at China, but the American people have not even won a supporting role. This should not be the script we want to see."

House Speaker Bruce said coldly: "Mr. President, the American people care more about job opportunities, unemployment and the dollar than aliens."

President Isaac said kindly:

"In fact, the U.S. economy is built on America's global leadership. If we are absent from major global affairs, I believe it will be a heavy blow to Wall Street and the Federal Reserve."

Bruce moved slightly. He twisted his body uncomfortably. After a moment of silence, he raised his head and said:

"Mr. President, during your term, the Chinese have become infinitely close to the United States economically. People in many states are living in poverty, and the Democratic Party hopes to be responsible for them."

Speaker Berg couldn't bear it anymore and took action:

"When did the Democratic Party care about farmers and workers? That's not what you said three years ago. Who was the one who insisted on ensuring America's global leadership?"

House Speaker Bruce glanced at him and said disdainfully:

"Three years ago, it was three years ago, and now, the Democratic Party is willing to take responsibility for all the American people."

He looked at President Isaac and sneered:

"Ten hours of silence? From coast to coast? The entire United States has returned to the primitive jungle era? Countless factories and companies have shut down? Just to look for aliens? My God! This is simply unconstitutional. Shouldn't we work for the employment of the American people?

, is it responsible for the U.S. economy? No mature and rational politician will have such delusions."

President Isaac sat back in his seat disappointed:

"So, the House of Representatives will not support the United States' participation in this operation?"

Speaker Bruce said firmly:

"Yes, Mr. President, unless the Chinese give very clear evidence and prove that these so-called 'aliens' pose a threat to the American people."

President Isaac argued:

"Mr. Bruce, you have to know that in many great actions, having a first-mover advantage is critical, not just for the Republican cause, but for the benefit of the entire country."

Bruce was as solid as a rock and said coldly:

"Yes, Mr. President, it is in the interests of all the American people that the Democratic Party stands firm on this - you can sponsor a bill in the House of Representatives."

President Isaac was extremely disappointed. He waved his hand to the Secretary of State:

"Reply to the Chinese people that the American people support the Chinese people's space exploration career and wish them success."

The Secretary of State nodded:

"Okay, Mr. President."

President Isaac added:

"Let NASA keep in touch with the Chinese. The United States hopes to know the Chinese detection results as soon as possible."

The Secretary of State looked up in shock:

"Mr. President, Congress prohibits NASA from working with the Chinese. It's a law."

President Isaac completely exploded, and he stared at Bruce fiercely:

"Then to hell with Congress and its laws, I will issue an order to make Houston/CIA cooperate with the Chinese, and they will get the guarantee and amnesty from the White House!"
