Chapter 8: donner and kling
"Humph!"
Coolidge snorted coldly, and when he heard Donner mention the previous incident, the expression on his face became very cold.
"Don't even think about it, you and I are brothers and you want to marry my daughter."
Donner left the chair and walked in front of Coolidge.
"You can't say that. I'm ten years younger than you. What's wrong with me?"
"You old cow eating young grass, if you want to quarrel, we can continue this topic."
Donna spread his hands and said it didn't matter. Two years later, his thoughts faded away. It was just by chance that he saw a photo of Coolidge's daughter.
As a result, Kuric turned his face directly. The original old friend has not seen each other for more than two years, and the relationship has eased a lot until now.
"Donna, I'm going to retire."
Coolidge was a little melancholy, then he found a chair and sat down, not treating himself as an outsider at all.
Donna sat back in his seat again, and said solemnly: "People who work **** this sea are still in their prime at the age of fifty. You are not the money-loving Morgan I know when you retire so early."
"Krillin is dead."
"what happened?"
Looking at the sadness in Morgan's eyes, he still couldn't believe that such a shrewd and strong old sailor would die like this.
Twenty years ago, Donner was still a kid who yearned for the sea. At this age of rebellion, it is not surprising that he did some crazy things.
So, he secretly climbed on Coolidge's ship and hid in the warehouse for three days, just for the dream of sailing. Of course, that time, it completely dispelled his dream of sailing.
Donner was found out when he was inspected by the No. 4 sailor on the fourth day, but Coolidge did not blame him, but promised that he could follow and complete this voyage. If there is still the idea of sailing, then Let him be a sailor seeking a life at sea.
But after sailing for nearly half a month.
A violent storm swept across the Atlantic without warning, and the ship was forced to stay in Madeira, a natural leeward harbor, where all the crew took refuge.
But not all ships were so lucky. Donner watched helplessly as two large sailboats in the distance smashed their masts in the thunder and lightning of the storm, and were swept into the seabed by the monstrous waves.
The next day, more than a dozen bodies were found on the beach, along with one survivor, Kling.
Kling was the only survivor of the wrecked ship, perhaps because of luck, or because he was the one with the best body and the longest support in the water, and finally survived.
Kling lost all his friends in that accident, brother, and since then he has become a little taciturn. The man who was full of dreams and went to sea finally cooled down and became a sailor on the ship.
The ability to fight is the most praised by people. In countless encounters with pirates, if it wasn't for Kling's support, it would have been impossible to wait for the arrival of the British Royal Navy, with wisdom, strategy, courage and strength.
Prestige finally pushed him to the position of first mate, and loyalty allowed Coolidge to trust him with everything and became the best helper.
Donna, who saw that big storm, extinguished his heart for sailing. All dreams about sailing are just imaginations. Surviving on this sea is not dependent on ability, nor blood, but luck.
"The ship encountered pirates on the last voyage. We lost seven men in that battle. We rested in Nassau and re-recruited seven sailors aboard. The voyage was fine until this time. ."
Coolidge fell into memory.
"What happened?" Donner was a little impatient. Krillin became the first friend he knew during the later voyage. The news made him very angry.
"It was a rebellion. Six of the seven people were pirates. After they got on the ship and won our trust, they overturned everyone with a drug one night a few days ago. Krillin and the other two Sailor, was killed on Huaye Island. Fortunately, Gordon killed the pirates at the end, and then saved me."
Coolidge sighed and continued: "I don't know if I will be so lucky next time, so I decided to go back to my hometown, buy a farm, buy some black slaves, and I should be able to live a decent life."
Donna felt a little flustered in his heart, and in the end he could only say: "It's time for the old man to retire. Go back and take care of your daughter."
"Donald, I decided to hand the boat over to Gordon. I hope you can trust him as much as you trust me in the future. If you encounter any trouble, I hope you can help."
Donner turned his gaze to Gordon, such a young and energetic face, as if he saw himself who had just left the sea.
A person's face and temperament can reflect a lot of things. Gordon's temperament instantly convinced Donner that he was an honest person, and over the years, Coolidge has never The wrong person, isn't it?
"Mr. Donner, it's nice to meet you," Gordon said.
Donner nodded: "If you encounter something you can't solve in the future, you can discuss it with me and treat Morgan's ship well."
After the two left the exchange, they came to the tavern to prepare a drink.
A ceiling supported by worn canvas, short wooden tables and stools, and a small room for buying wine are such a humble tavern.
The two wooden beer mugs gave these people a lot of comfort.
Here, people drink ale, brag to each other about the harvest of the voyage, encounters, or see ** who laugh at the side, pay some silver coins and pounds, you can get a night of spring supper.
The arrival of Gordon and Coolidge brought together the crew of the ship who drank here. There is no difference in the status of captains and sailors, just a group of people running around at sea.
After two drinks, Coolidge looked at Gordon and said, "There are very rare chicks here. Do you want to try it?"
As he spoke, he winked at the house not far away.
Gordon followed his gaze and looked over. It was a small two-story building with a lot of red paint peeling off. Under the stairs stood a woman who was slightly scantily clad. There was no coquettishness in his eyes, only a little helplessness and bitterness.
Just that look made his heart aches instantly. There is no shortage of thieves, robbers, gangsters, these lowest-level characters in the various ports of the sea.
This is a tragedy for a society, forcing good people to be prostitutes and robbery.
