Astral Cockroach
#12 - prey
The next evolution isn't far off.
Inherited memories reveal that all types of cockroach warriors on this planet grow according to six levels: Primary Warrior, Intermediate Warrior, Advanced Warrior, Mountain Lord, County Lord, and Roach King.
Each level is divided into 9 growth stages, 9 molting growths, and 9 small-scale gene evolutions.
Blot is currently a Level 1 Primary Warrior.
To make it easier to calculate strength (and for the reader's convenience), Blot uses L to represent the level, as in L1 Primary Warrior. With sufficient food, the next evolution will arrive in just one month.
Inherited memories dictate that Primary Warriors should grow rapidly under the protection of tribal elders, and only leave to choose a territory and live independently after becoming Intermediate Warriors. The life seeds conceived during this period can also be stored and sown after finding a suitable habitat.
Blot's elder was that red cockroach tribal warrior with a body length of about 200. Unfortunately, it died inexplicably.
Without protection, he can only rely on himself, making early growth difficult.
As an L1 Primary Warrior, his size is limited, his combat power is weak, and he can only hunt various small insects for food, remaining at the bottom of the food chain.
… …
Noon, the scorching sun.
Blot is currently at the peak of his development and has a great need for food. He had just finished the beast meat he brought back, and soon felt hungry again.
He hurried out, carried a leaf, lay down at the entrance of the cave and slowly chewed, staring at the nearby Timothy grass field, and his heart suddenly lit up.
Blot saw a green bug with a body length of about 15 lying on a Timothy grass leaf, leisurely and comfortably gnawing on the fresh grass leaves. The green carapace is the best camouflage, and the long, pointed head is attached to the underside of the grass leaf, almost blending into one with the grass leaf, motionless and difficult to detect.
In the inherited memory, this insect is called the "Swordhorn Grasshopper", with two developed hind legs in the form of chicken legs. When encountering danger, it can instantly jump a long distance, and adults are also good at flying. Once disturbed, they immediately jump, flapping their wings and flying far away. They have no combat power, but are first-rate at escaping.
Now, in late spring and early summer, most of the Swordhorn Grasshoppers are in the nymph stage.
The one Blot accidentally discovered is only about 15 in length, undoubtedly a nymph.
"The nymph's wings are not yet fully developed and it is not good at flying, maybe I can try."
Blot looked around and confirmed again that there were no other powerful predators before crawling out of the passage, sticking to the ground, and quietly approaching slowly.
He came all the way to the bottom of the Timothy grass where the Swordhorn Grasshopper was resting.
The Swordhorn Grasshopper was hanging upside down on the grass leaf, and its vision detected Blot's presence. It moved slightly, but didn't care. In its instinctive consciousness, this small insect posed no threat to it.
In the next moment, Blot calculated the angle, jumped off the ground, and lost his wings to fly up.
In just an instant, he hit the target squarely, the toe of his left foreleg pierced the Swordhorn Grasshopper's back armor, broke through the carapace, and firmly grabbed it. The right foreleg pierced the side of the compound eye.
Pa!
The Swordhorn Grasshopper's pair of developed hind legs instinctively twitched, causing it and Blot to roll to the ground.
Blot quickly locked the Swordhorn Grasshopper with four walking legs, using his right foreleg as a dagger, constantly stabbing its head.
Green blood with gray-black brain matter flowed outward.
The Swordhorn Grasshopper was unwilling to accept its fate, and its developed and powerful hind legs kept kicking, causing Blot to roll and struggle violently in the grass for a long time before finally choking.
The fight, which made a lot of noise, alarmed more than a dozen Swordhorn Grasshoppers hiding nearby, and they jumped and flew away in panic.
Although Blot harvested food, he was very dissatisfied with this hunt. The head is the vital point of all creatures. Obviously, for insects like grasshoppers, the head is not the best place to start.
It took some effort to drag the corpse back to the nest. First, he unloaded the two thick and developed hind legs.
Peeling off the thin and brittle carapace revealed soft and tender muscles. The two legs alone were enough for a full meal.
Continuing to cut the corpse, he found that in addition to the two hind legs, only two not-so-developed muscles under the back plate were edible. The seemingly fat and soft abdomen was almost all fat and internal organs with a poor taste.
Blot thought for a while, and only cut off the muscles, leaving the rest at the entrance of the harvest ant nest.
After all, it was his first hunt and a success. He should let his neighbors share his victory.
After eating the prey, it was already dusk. Blot originally planned to go out and hunt another Swordhorn Grasshopper as a midnight snack, but found that several small snakes with red patterns came from nowhere, wandering in the nearby grass, also preying on Swordhorn Grasshoppers. Bright patterns, triangular heads, typical venomous snakes, their venom has a deadly destructive power on insect bodies.
This period is also the peak period of activity for various birds and animals.
Blot immediately dismissed the idea of going out, hid in the depths of the nest, and lurked down.
Cockroaches have extremely high digestion and utilization rates for the various nutrients contained in the food they ingest.
Blot ate a lot of meat in one day, and the original weakness was swept away. His body also stored a large amount of nutrients needed for growth. When lying still, he could clearly feel the cosmic origin power wandering in the natural world being attracted and gathered by the carapace, seeping into the body through the carapace.
The most ⊥ new ⊥ small ⊥ say ⊥ in ⊥ six ⊥ 9 ⊥ ⊥ book ⊥ ⊥ bar ⊥ ⊥ first ⊥ hair!
The origin power merges into the blood, flowing with the blood into every cell of the body, strengthening and transforming the cells.
During the transformation process, the nutrients stored in the body are rapidly consumed.
In the middle of the night, the nutrients stored in the body were almost completely consumed, and the rate at which the carapace absorbed the cosmic origin power immediately decreased, almost stopping, and a feeling of hunger came from the abdomen.
It's a very simple growth model. Eat well, eat your fill, and the growth rate will be fast. Otherwise, it will stagnate.
Blot went out once before dawn, carefully searching every Timothy grass, and spent some time finding a Swordhorn Grasshopper nymph that was sleeping.
Adjusting the angle, accumulating power, pouncing and attacking.
Having had one hunting experience, Blot changed to using four walking legs to grab and stabilize his body, embedding his left foreclaw into the back armor, and using his right claw as a dagger to attack the Swordhorn Grasshopper's hind legs, stabbing and destroying the tibia muscles.
The effect was not significant. The awakened Swordhorn Grasshopper's left leg was paralyzed, but its right leg was still able to move. With a sudden force, it kicked, causing Blot to roll violently to the ground, and then struggled even more fiercely.
Jumping on one leg, the force was unbalanced. Blot was dragged around in circles. In a hurry, he changed to attacking the head, and after tossing for a long time, he finally killed the target completely.
"Even a small grasshopper is so difficult to deal with."
Blot was depressed. He dragged the corpse back to the nest. Seeing that it was not yet dawn, he stared at the corpse for a while and then went out to continue searching.
The third hunt, he changed the attack position again, attacking the position where the Swordhorn Grasshopper's head and back armor connected, lowering his claws from the weak point, straightening his toes, deeply inserting them into the connecting muscles, quickly bending them, and suddenly pulling outward, cutting off a large number of nerves and blood vessels.
A successful hunt. The Swordhorn Grasshopper instinctively kicked its legs, causing Blot to land. After landing, the two hind legs curled up and stopped moving. Green blood flowed along the carapace joints. Without any resistance, it died quietly.
"I should have cut off the central nervous system connecting the brain and the torso. Hunting in this way will be much more efficient."
Compared to the previous two times, the third hunt was much easier. Blot was very satisfied and planned to hunt Swordhorn Grasshoppers in the harvest ant's Timothy grass field in this way to obtain food.
Both time and quantity have stabilized. Go out twice at noon and dawn, hunting two each time. The uneaten food is given to your ant neighbors next door. After all, they are managing and planting Timothy grass.
