Big Country Technology Starts with Mobile Phones
Chapter 16 Dalang Special Commemorative Edition
"Boss! This is Nebula Technology's December financial report and statistics!"
In December, Nebula Technology directly launched the random killing mode. Nebula2 series mobile phones shipped 3.8 million units offline and 30,000 units online.
Nebula TV Nebula AE 12 sold 600,000 units offline and 20,000 units online.
The average profit of the four products was Rs 1,000, as Nebula 2 and 2s, which shipped the most, had lower profits, dragging down the overall level.
This result is the same as what Liu Dalang predicted before Nebula Technology’s first press conference.
As the cheapest entry-level smartphone on the market, Nebula2s is priced at Rs 3,399, and there is no sales pressure at all.
The large stereo speakers, three SIM cards and three standbys, and the colorful appearance have caught the preferences of consumers. These are the advantages of being in line with the market.
Nebula Technology can sell as many units as it produces. Some local dealers even sell it for more than 5,000 rupees.
The result is that supply still exceeds demand, which reflects from the side how lethal mobile phones below 10,000 rupees are in the current market environment.
Regarding these situations, Liu Dalang chose to turn a blind eye. The mentality of "wanting the horse to run but also wanting the horse not to eat grass" is definitely unacceptable.
Only by providing sufficient benefits to dealers in various places will they do more things. However, in this way, Nebula Technology also attracted a lot of dirty information.
In addition to Nebula branches and Nebula directly-operated stores, the Nebula phones purchased from other channels have varying degrees of premium.
But ordinary people simply can't buy goods from Nebula branches and directly-operated stores. Every time the goods arrive, they are immediately divided up by various dealers.
Because of this, angry Ah Sans also publicly stated on some social media:
"Nebula Technology has fooled all of us! At the press conference, they kept saying that Nebula mobile phones only cost how much, but in fact it is not at all!"
Nebula Technology immediately responded publicly, saying that the pricing of Nebula products has never changed, and it is not up to them to control how much dealers in various places sell them.
These products also enjoy official after-sales service. Nebula Technology will actively promote the construction of offline direct stores and strive to allow everyone to buy Nebula mobile phones and TVs at official standard prices.
"What does it have to do with us if the dealer sells it expensively? You won't even let me buy it online!"
Liu Dalang also used this incident to promote the benefits of online shopping. In the Nebula flagship store, all four products are priced at standard prices.
Apart from limiting the purchase quantity for each person, it is no different from buying in a physical store, but it does not have much effect.
The sales of Nebula flagship stores on the two online shopping platforms have always been tepid. In the final analysis, it is because the penetration rate of wireless Internet is not high enough.
Ah San’s 3G package data is not much, and the Wi-Fi penetration rate is low. As a result, not many people are willing to shop online.
Liu Dalang was already thinking about whether Star Express should enable the cash on delivery function to promote a wave of sales of Nebula technology products.
In the end, he gave up the idea. The problem had to be solved fundamentally. A charging model could not bring much improvement to sales.
Next year Xincheng Industrial will start building 4G base stations. At the same time, China will also usher in the 4G era. This is the best opportunity for Nebula Technology.
As soon as India's mobile phone shipments in the fourth quarter of 2012 were released, people were surprised to find that Nebula mobile phone sales exceeded 10 million units this quarter.
The total sales volume of 11.74 million units has surpassed Samsung's 9.47 million units and is less than 2 million units away from Nokia's 13.49 million units.
The market share of Nebula mobile phones in a single quarter has reached 28%. Although it is far from the previously expected 40%, it is still amazing enough.
After all, Nebula Technology is just an emerging brand. It has swept the Indian low-end mobile phone market from the very beginning, and its expansion momentum is incredible.
The number one ranking is still Nokia, but at this rate, it won’t be long before Nokia falls off the altar and gives way.
The second-ranked Nebula Technology, the third-ranked copycat force, and the fourth-ranked Samsung are all eyeing this piece of fat.
Once Nokia is acquired by Microsoft, China's major mobile phone manufacturers will follow one after another. By then, India will be a replica of China's battlefield.
Rather than passively defending and waiting for major mobile phone manufacturers to compete for the market, it is better to take the initiative and lead Nebula Technology back into the Chinese mobile phone market.
Ever since, on the first day of 2013, Liu Dalang took some of the top executives of Nebula Technology back to China and back to the headquarters of Dalang Technology.
It is said to be the headquarters, but in fact, Dalang Technology is now only an empty shell, no different from some empty-handed companies.
"Boss! Is this our headquarters? Why is there... nothing?"
Amir came to China for the first time and saw a lot of novel things. He also discovered that China's development is indeed much better than that of India.
But he never expected that Nebula Technology, which could achieve sales of 20 million in India in less than a year, would have nothing in China!
"The current decline is only temporary!"
After Liu Dalang found out that Dalang Technology's production factory had not been sold out, he directly invested in buying it back as a souvenir.
Although Dalang Technology has now been renamed Nebula Technology, Liu Dalang decided to retain the Dalang mobile phone as a low-end series.
According to his plan, domestic Nebula Technology will launch Nebula2 Pro and TV Nebula AE 12 matryoshka models within three months.
The product names are: Dalang Special Commemorative Edition, and the TV Dalang T12. They focus on the online market because they cannot be sold offline!
Why did he choose this name? First, Liu Dalang wanted to tell everyone that Dalang’s mobile phone is back! The second is to commemorate the end of the 3G era.
The Dalang Special Commemorative Edition is Nebula Technology's first and last 3G mobile phone in China, and it will enter the 4G era.
The domestic mobile phone market is not as gentle as India's. Both offline and online are divided by a group of players, making it difficult for Nebula Technology to enter.
While building the headquarters, Amir also investigated the specific situation of the domestic mobile phone market, and the results were roughly the same as what Liu Dalang knew.
Samsung's expansion in China is gaining momentum and it firmly holds the top spot in 2012, followed closely by the four major manufacturers "China Cool Alliance".
Apple is caught in the middle, and its market share is swinging back and forth. After all, compared to other mobile phone manufacturers, the pricing of Apple mobile phones is really high.
As for other manufacturers, the market shares of Tianyu, Xiaomi, HTC, Gionee, Nokia, and OPPO are basically on the same line.
There are also some second-tier mobile phone manufacturers, as well as several well-known small manufacturers, which may come out at any time when they are about to enter the 4G era.
For example, Smartisan, which is ready to make the “best mobile phone in the Eastern Hemisphere”, and “Zhuhai Small Factory”, which emphasizes simplicity and intrinsic beauty.
Liu Dalang now holds 120,000 points and has directly opened a C-class LCD screen production line and five D-class production lines, namely:
RAM, ROM, lithium battery, fully automatic assembly, and recycling production lines, and the production capacity of four of them has been directly increased to 3,000/hour, while the recycling production line is still 100 tons/hour.
A D-level recycling production line with 50,000 points is too expensive, so the production capacity cannot be increased temporarily. 100 tons/hour is enough for initial use.
At present, China is also a major importer of electronic waste. Nebula Technology’s raw material problem has been basically solved with the D-level recycling production line.
120,000 points can actually be exchanged for two D-level sensors or a D-level SOC production line. The problem is that these are not as practical as recycling lines.
The current mobile phone cameras are still in the stage of stacking pixels, and it is not yet time to compete with each other to see who has a better sensor and who has a bigger base.
Not to mention the SOC production line, Nebula Technology doesn’t even have the technical staff to get it together.
According to the operation of bypassing patents in the [Science and Technology Guide], you might get equipment that Liu Dalang has never seen before, and you will have to solve the problem by then.
Moreover, with the copycat king MediaTek here, the price of their smartphone chips is not as expensive as it was later, so there is no need to make it yourself.
In one month, the same model and the same three major areas as the Indian Nebula Technology Industrial Park have been completed.
The overall efficiency is quite high. Of course, the prerequisite for high efficiency is that Liu Dalang's project funds are in place. Otherwise, how can it be completed in one month?
After completing various procedures, as soon as the first batch of Nebula mobile phones put into trial production came out, they were immediately sent to the testing agency for strict quality, performance and other parameter testing.
By the time the results came out and the network access license was obtained, it was already the end of February. This efficiency was already quite fast compared to before.
After all, domestic mobile phones are in full bloom, and the four major manufacturers have launched many mobile phone styles. It is common to test dozens of new products at one time.
At the same time, the Nebula 4 series mobile phones and TV Nebula AE 13 have also entered the mass production stage at the Nebula Technology Industrial Park in New Delhi.
In the new year, the sales of Nebula2 series mobile phones have remained at 3 million units per month. However, the fact that sales have not decreased does not mean that the products do not need to be updated.
After all, no matter how good a product is, the sales cycle is only a few months. Even if the price configuration remains unchanged, the appearance and name must be slightly updated.
During this period of time, Liu Dalang was very tired and ran back and forth. Fortunately, the hard work paid off and everything that needed to be solved was solved.
The special commemorative edition of Dalang mobile phone and TV Dalang T12 finally achieved mass production in March, focusing on online channels for promotion and sales.
There is also no press conference, and there are not too many scenes. Even the online channel promotion received by Nebula Technology is just scraps.
No one has noticed that there is an additional Nebula flagship store on major e-commerce platforms.
Liu Dalang doesn't care about this. At this stage, the focus of Nebula Technology's development is still in India, and he does not intend to focus on participating in the domestic competition.
Obscene development is the way to go. Focus on core technology domestically and market and sales abroad.
When other manufacturers are fighting to the death, it will not be too late for Nebula Technology to take action.
In terms of pricing, the cost of Dalang mobile phone in all aspects is slightly higher in the initial stage, and the special commemorative edition of Dalang mobile phone is higher than that of Nebula2 Pro.
The price of TV Dalang T12 is the same as in India, but there is no discount.
The pricing of the special commemorative edition of Dalang mobile phone and the pricing of Dalang T12 are still 599.
The price of 599 is very cheap compared to later smartphones.
But compared with 3G smartphones of the same period, the price is a bit high, because some manufacturers have lowered the price to less than 300 yuan.
Among these ultra-low-price mobile phones, there are many OEM and knock-off products from major manufacturers, as well as some pure knock-off products, such as the Pineapple phone.
