Big Country Technology Starts with Mobile Phones
Chapter 9 Professional e-waste recycling
The growth of copycat phones has affected the sales of Nebula phones to a certain extent, but it doesn't matter. Liu Dalang not only makes money from Nebula phones, but also from copycat phones.
India's annual mobile phone shipments can reach more than 100 million units, and the copycat market can reach at least 15% of the market share in the past two years.
In the next six years, the share of copycat phones will not be less than 18% every year.
Perhaps the current production capacity of Nebula Technology Industrial Park is not enough to capture such a large share, but what about one year from now? What about two years from now?
Moreover, the domestic production capacity is absolutely sufficient, and low-priced mobile phones and low-price accessories are continuously shipped to the Indian market from various channels.
Nebula Technology now has a solid foundation. In July alone, Liu Dalang earned nearly 70,000 points.
He directly maximized the production capacity of D-class LCD screens and lithium battery production lines to 10,000/hour, and supplied all excess LCD screens and lithium batteries to Mumbai Electronics City.
The production capacity of the D-level fully automatic assembly line, RAM, and ROM has been expanded to 5,000 units/hour, and the daily shipment volume of Nebula1s and Nebula1 Pro has reached 80,000 units.
Nebula mobile phones were continuously produced from Nebula Technology Industrial Park, and a huge problem soon arose: the price of raw materials increased!
"Boss, KTA said that if they don't accept the price increase, they won't supply us with raw materials!"
"This is too much! They see that we are making money, so they are trying to get rid of us!"
"They also said that labor costs have increased and tariffs have increased. I checked and found that there is no such thing at all! They are lying!"
Jain is a good hand at marketing promotion and execution, but when faced with this kind of problem, he didn't know where to solve it for a while.
India's local raw material suppliers have increased prices, supplies from other small countries in Southeast Asia are too scattered, and imports from China need to pay tariffs, so rising costs seem inevitable.
Liu Dalang looked calm. He had already expected this: "It's okay. Just sue them directly and charge them a liquidated damages first, and then find raw materials from other channels. Price is not an issue."
As a result, the net profit of Nebula 1, Nebula Technology's best-selling model, will fall below 50 rupees, making a mobile phone less than five yuan.
Compared with the Kivu mobile phone that claimed to make one dollar per mobile phone, Nebula Technology may be darker, but compared to the gangster-like Apple, Nebula Technology exudes the brilliance of humanity.
However, manufacturers advertise no more than a certain profit margin and how much money a mobile phone only makes. Just listen to it, but if you take it seriously, you will lose.
What users can see is what manufacturers have tried their best to let users see.
Just like going to a physical store to buy a mobile phone, when a salesperson keeps promoting a certain product, is it really because it is so good?
There are generally two purposes for sales, one is inventory, and the other is indicators. How could he really consider the users and count them all if he can cheat them!
It was only later that some manufacturers discovered that marketing alone could no longer make people willing to buy high-priced, low-profile products, so they quickly adjusted their product development strategies.
Liu Dalang is not worried about the price increases of raw material suppliers in India. Nebula Technology may not be able to win the lawsuit and will not receive liquidated damages.
But it doesn't matter. He has other ways to avoid purchasing raw materials from these suppliers, and that is to rely on "e-waste".
In 2011, the output of e-waste alone exceeded 35 million tons, and after this e-waste flowed out of developed countries, a large part of it flowed into third world countries.
The first to bear the brunt is India. I don’t know how much e-waste is imported into India every year. The treatment method after import is also very simple, bury it on site or throw it into the river.
How toxic is e-waste?
The simplest example is that hexavalent chromium in metal anti-corrosion coatings can easily cross cell membranes and even enter the blood, causing bronchitis, liver and kidney failure.
In addition to chromium, electronic waste also contains lead, mercury, nickel, polycyclic aromatic hydroxyls, brominated flame retardants, etc. The number of harmful substances is too numerous to count.
Needless to say, it goes without saying that after these highly toxic substances are buried and discarded, they flow into the land and groundwater. What harm they do to the human body.
If you want to scientifically recycle and dispose of these electronic wastes harmlessly, the cost per kilogram is enough to buy an Apple 4s. The price is too high, so it is better to export it directly to these underdeveloped areas.
But if you think about it from another perspective, these electronic wastes happen to contain some of the raw materials that Nebula Technology's production line needs most.
What Liu Dalang wants to do is to set up an e-waste recycling company to specifically recycle these imported e-waste.
These electronic wastes are then converted into raw materials through the Class D recycling production line redeemed from the [Technology Collection]. Beyond what Nebula Technology needs, it can also be used to compete in other markets.
However, this recycling production line is not cheap. A D-level line requires 50,000 points, and the recycling rate is 10 tons/hour. The rate of stacking ten lines into one is only 100 tons/hour.
"The cost is really high! It seems that the D-class sensor production line will have to be delayed for a while..."
Liu Dalang sighed, and then informed Jiain to start arranging the matter.
"Apple advertises how environmentally friendly it is every day. It doesn't give away headphones, chargers, or data cables. A rag sells for more than a hundred. Let me show you what is truly environmentally friendly!"
Liu Dalang is a bit arrogant. Although his purpose is to save costs and make more money, which evil-hearted capitalist would refuse to earn a good reputation while making money?
Ever since, a company called "Earth recycle bin" was established in Mumbai, which translates to "Earth Recycle Bin".
After the electronic waste imported to Mumbai Port is recycled at a very low price, it is harmlessly processed into raw materials through a D-level recycling production line.
Then it is transported to the Nebula Technology Industrial Park, and the entire process is kept confidential.
This kind of thing is good from all aspects, but there is one thing that cannot be publicized, because publicizing this kind of thing is not conducive to Nebula Technology's expansion of market share.
The waste recycling industry has existed for a long time, and it is not uncommon for recycled products to be reused, but it cannot be shown openly.
Because not many people can accept that the things they buy are made of recycled waste, it is better to keep them out of sight.
After the completion of the Earth Recycling Station in Mumbai, it went into full swing, as did the Nebula Technology Industrial Park. The Nebula1 series of mobile phones swept the country and became standard equipment for Asans.
In early September, the total number of first- and second-level branches of Nebula Technology has expanded to 40.
There are 40 cities in India, each with a branch. The next step is to develop into remote areas and rural areas that cannot be taken into account by the cities.
At the same time, the appearance design of Nebula Technology's first TV has been initially completed. It is 32 inches in size and only 2.8 centimeters thick.
There is still a wide frame on the front. Compared with domestic designers, the designers in the R\u0026D department have too limited ideas.
Liu Dalang thinks that this may be related to the fact that these local designers have just arrived at Nebula Technology and have not yet fully understood the strength of Nebula Technology.
"5.7cm border! Take a look at the sample for yourselves. Doesn't it affect the look and feel? Redesign it! The border is controlled to 2cm!"
Limited by the packaging process, a two-centimeter TV frame is already the limit that Nebula Technology can currently produce. There is still a long way to go before "true full screen".
According to Liu Dalang's plan, Nebula Technology's new product launch conference will be held in October.
In the remaining two months, the first batch of finished TV sets must be produced.
Nebulas Technology’s first-generation TV does not need to be equipped with Nebulas OS, nor does it need any fancy cross-screen interconnection functions.
Because the Wi-Fi penetration rate here is not high enough, and even smartphones have not yet become popular, cross-screen interconnection does not make any sense.
Rather than just increasing costs, it is better to be more realistic, reduce costs and lower selling prices. Low price and high cost performance is the current direction.
Nebula Technology’s first-generation TV product was codenamed Nebula AE 12, which is the Nebula code + letter + year number. It is simple and not fancy.
The Nebula2 series of mobile phones produced at the same time will add infrared functions to all series.
Although there is no need for cross-screen interconnection now, the two products cannot be unrelated at all, and the infrared function has become the best choice.
Users who have purchased a Nebula2 series mobile phone can find the remote control function directly on the home page of the mobile phone, and use the mobile phone to complete a series of operations that can be completed on the remote control.
This function can also be used with other brands of TV sets.
However, in the subsequent publicity, the Nebula Technology Marketing Department will focus on creating an idea for consumers to use two devices together to make them more useful.
Just like buying mobile phone accessories, the same accessories, the same quality, original ones are twice as expensive as ordinary ones, and people still prefer original ones.
By taking advantage of this consumer psychology and distinguishing one's own products from those of other manufacturers, one can harvest leeks without restraint.
Some products may really have unique technical content, while other products...
Liu Dalang didn't expect high sales of Nebula Technology's first-generation TV.
After all, the concept of the Internet of Everything has not yet become popular in China, let alone in India. Whether consumers will buy it is another matter.
According to normal people's thinking, when buying a mobile phone, you should buy a brand that specializes in mobile phones, and when buying an air conditioner, you should buy a brand that specializes in air conditioners.
But there is one thing that is different between Indian consumers and domestic consumers.
They don't have such high brand stickiness at all. The current TV market seems to be calm, just because the prices of the products of major manufacturers are on the same line.
The overall quality of the products is not much different. The rest depends on which brand has stronger marketing and more discounts.
Compared with mobile phones, the profits of the TV industry are the real huge profits. A TV worth 4,000 yuan can drop by more than 1,500 yuan in half a year.
Low cost performance, lack of product innovation, and the decline of television media have led to a series of reshuffles in the industry.
The mission of Nebula Technology's first-generation TV is simple: let consumers know that Nebula Technology has the ability to develop other product lines, so that it will not be too abrupt when it enters the smart TV field in the future.
