66 Diving Headfirst Into Danger!

Jack enjoyed the Masquerade until:

The scene before his eyes changed. For half an instant, he could see a sea of tentacles, a defeated water mage, and despairing foxes facing their doom. This was BAD!

As he returned to his senses, it all felt like a lie, the Masquerade still as peaceful and joyous as ever. How could the bigshots here not sense an attack of such a large scale?

"Kid, what happened? Your entire body's shaking!" The Old Ghost instantly noticed, only to cry out when Jack shared his experience: "T-this... is has to be a Space-Sealing Relic!"

"What's that?"

"It creates a death trap that no one from the outside world can detect or influence. Heck, even if the Flame Lord personally dealt with it, she wouldn't be in time to save your foxes!"

"You're saying...?!"

"Your foxes will have to handle it themselves. Only someone inside the trap can disable it in time. That's the only way. Otherwise, it wouldn't--"

"No. That can't be!"

Jack sounded in denial, but he wasn't. After all, even now, he could still sense a connection to his foxes. Did the Seal not affect him because of Master of the Foxes Title?!

Perhaps it was a long shot, but he had to try!

Without waiting, he excused himself from the Masquerade, quickly reaching the garden. Except there was something wrong: gorgeous flowers, fresh air, and not a trace of any battle!

"What did I tell you, kid? It's in another Space. Only a Space Archmage could easily deal with it from the outside. Of course, it's vulnerable from the inside, but...."

Jack didn't hear any of it. He roamed across the courtyard, focusing on his Master of the Foxes Title, slowly sensing the connection with his foxes. He was so close, yet so far!

This moment felt like his mom's cancer.

Would he helplessly lose another loved one? Was he doomed to watch misery unfold just like before? He felt sick, wracking his brain trying to find a solution.

"Such is life, kid. Stuff like this happens. All you can do is endure and--"

NO! He wouldn't accept that. There had to be a way, somehow! He could feel them; he just couldn't see them... how could he solve this-- WAIT?! If seeing was the problem...?!

Jack activated his Fate Vision Ability.

Suddenly, the garden changed into a hue of bronze, silver... and black?! It was as if misfortune was gathered all in one spot, his ability warning him to steer clear!

"GOTCHA!"

Without hesitating, he rushed to it, feeding that one black spot his Mana as if an offering. That's when it happened.... -- SWITCH! RUMBLE! -- He found himself in a nightmare.

Tentacles everywhere, a courtyard on fire, and despairing, bloodied foxes growing weaker by the second. "WHAT?! Kid, how did you-- ?!" Jack ignored the Ghost, even chuckling.

"What's with the hangdog looks? Aren't you guys supposed to be foxes?" All parties jumped in shock as his voice resonated in the gloomy courtyard.

"Woo?!" (M-master?! H-how?!)

"S-Someone's here?! H-How?! This is impossible?!"

The situation was too surreal for assassins and foxes alike. Just as the victors had been determined, this guy had come out of bloody nowhere!

Jack's presence changed everything. The foxes were instantly galvanized, while the assassins retreated a few steps warily, creating a lull in the battlefield.

But as all eyes turned to him...

"What the actual fuck?"

The assassins exclaimed, confused. They had expected the invader to be one of the Lords, but it was far from it. The newcomer was a youngster... one naked to boot?!

"Relax, he can't be too strong! This realm can barely contain Silver Ranked beings at best. I don't know how he came here, but just kill that weirdo!" An assassin remarked.

That's when the foxes drew a cold breath. Fuck. What had they done?! They had been so happy to see their Master, but wouldn't he be in trouble now?! What should they--

But then their Master's calm voice shook them awake.

"Freaking out for so little? Didn't I teach you guys anything?"

"Scoff! Die!" An assassin rudely interrupted, the nearby tentacles all attacking! They slammed toward him, crippling darkness menacing to take over his soul!

It was like a tidal wave he couldn't possibly content against. Jack's Danger Sense was already screaming, warning him to Get the Fuck out of there!-- not that he could.

"Kid, you shouldn't have come here! Abandon the foxes and--"

"Shut up, you old thing." Jack focused.

Not there, not there, not there either. Wait, there was an opening! As tentacles clashed, two intersected and stilled for half a second! THERE!

Jack rushed through, driving his Evil God Body to the limit!

No, even that wouldn't be enough! That's when he summoned a few Arcane Daggers, targeting the tentacles' weak spots! As one tentacle collapsed, he barely escaped with his life.

This had just been the first onslaught?! Those things were OP!

As he faced the remaining sea of tentacles in the distance, he felt despair creeping on him. Yet, he didn't show any of it. Instead, he actually turned to their controller, smirking.

"That's it? That's all you can do? Borrowed power really is useless if the user's trash." He scoffed, not a trace of how much he had struggled with the previous attack showing.

It was the start of another type of fight, a mental one.

After all, his options were limited. Could he personally defeat the assassins? Probably not. Could he destroy the sea of tentacles? Definitely not!

What he could do, however, was create the perfect opening for his foxes. While they were simple in their attacks, they had much more Firepower and Speed than he did!

He had to grab the enemies' attention and keep it! Thus, he gave them the most radiant smile as he gently uttered:

"Now, little wanna-be assassin. Why don't you surrender? We all know how this will end, don't we? You on your knees, begging for my forgiveness as you--"

"Y-You! You're DEAD!"

Mission accomplished! He had successfully angered the target. But as he saw the billowing sea of tentacles, Jack suddenly had second thoughts.

Weren't there a little too many?! Oh well...
