Colonial Suit
#1082 - Have a nice journey
In the sky, the pitch-blackness slowly writhed, like a living creature, yet also like the eternally unchanging night sky.
That was the Black Tide.
The destroyer of the universe, the terminator.
Although in the secrets of top-tier civilizations, the Abyss is regarded as the enemy of the universe, the Black Tide is even more recognized in the most widely circulated prophecies. Some believe the Black Tide is the manifestation of the Abyss. Others believe the Black Tide is another kind of cosmic phenomenon. They argue with each other, unable to reach a consensus.
But regardless, the current Black Tide has already destroyed most of the universe, and beneath the darkness, life perishes.
"Why..." Boswell stared blankly at the pitch-black sky, his face pale. "Why would the Black Tide appear here..."
No one could answer him. Although the former Blood Queen had taken the mutants away from this planet using ancient, pre-era spaceships, X35's technology had not developed significantly. Launching some satellites was still possible, but interstellar exploration was still far off. The Black Tide spread across the starry sky, with immeasurable distances between breaths. How could they possibly sense it?
They had learned about the Black Tide through some external interactions, but living on a closed-off planet, their understanding of cosmic disasters was too vague.
Amidst the ear-piercing noise, everyone looked at the sky in horror, watching the Black Tide spread. Perhaps the speed wasn't fast, but it seemed limitless, able to continue indefinitely. If that were the case, who knew when it would devour the planet?
Boswell's hands and feet were ice-cold, and he felt his heart sinking continuously.
Just a few minutes ago, he had confidently declared that everything belonged to him. A few minutes later, he realized that everything he pursued was just a reflection in the water, flowers in a mirror. How ironic was that? The departure of the apocalypse, the newborn world, what did it all amount to? When the Black Tide descended upon the sky, everything turned to nothingness.
Pitiful. They hadn't even experienced much sunshine or warmth.
"God gives us hope so that we may repent before despair."
"God gives us warmth so that we may leave without regret."
Lia's soft murmurs reached his ears, and Boswell finally couldn't help but roar, "Stop it!"
"It's all fake, everything is fake, don't try to deceive me... So what if it's the Black Tide? It can't come down, it can't co..."
Boswell's voice stopped abruptly because he saw the pitch-blackness descending. Although it was in the sky, there was still a void separating it from the ground. But the void seemed to become its bridge, its nourishment. Nothing could stop it.
"Am I going to die here?" The thought finally surfaced in Boswell's mind.
"Are we going to die?" More people thought the same.
This wasn't a question, it was an answer.
Coldness and despair had descended upon this land, this planet that had once been in an apocalypse and had just been reborn. Ironically, its rebirth was granted by the Black Tide, and it would also be ended by the Black Tide.
On the earth, wild animals scurried, their terrified eyes visible everywhere. On the mountain peaks, trees swayed, and pieces of bark peeled off and flew away. Within the canyons, the water surged, and shattered droplets remained for a fleeting moment. Although every life was trying to survive, their brilliance and splendor were only momentary. They couldn't see death because death had already arrived above their heads.
As intelligent beings, humans felt it even more clearly. But no one could stop it.
A planet that had just escaped the apocalypse, a civilization that couldn't even step into the starry sky, a force that didn't even possess meteor-class cosmic warriors, what qualifications did they have to survive under the Black Tide? Not to mention them, even for the Third World, this was a luxury...
The wind, it blew again...
Like the apocalypse...
The difference was that the wind of the apocalypse was cold and cruel, but it still left a trace of struggle for living beings, but this wind was warm, it was vitality, and, the prelude to destruction.
No one spoke, and before the wine, everyone stared blankly at the sky, their faces pale.
Although, given the speed of the Black Tide, it would still take some time to devour the planet, but for them, this time felt more like torture.
Not being afraid of death doesn't mean not being afraid of waiting.
Even the strongest person would feel a trace of wavering when faced with unreasonable, inevitable death, let alone when death was slowly approaching. Death was not terrible, but what was terrible was the time before death. The torment of knowing that death was inevitable but being helpless.
"It's going to die."
A satisfied sigh came from the side, and Boswell turned his head. He saw Haji drinking. He was holding a wine barrel that was half his height, and he was drinking happily.
"Are you gloating?" Boswell asked grimly. He seemed ready to devour someone at any moment.
"It's not about gloating. It's just relief," Haji replied, silently looking at Boswell. "I know this is hard for you, but for me, it's just the end of life. Actually, I should have died seven years ago. It was Singel who kept me here and gave me a reason to live."
"Lia?" Boswell raised his eyebrows, but his eyes were particularly cold.
"Yeah, and all the people who follow me," Haji replied, then glanced at Boswell. "Once, that also included you."
"Haha, hahahaha..." Boswell suddenly laughed wildly, as if he were possessed. The heavy armor took a step forward and grabbed Haji in his hand.
"Stop pretending, my big brother Haji..." Under the mask, Boswell's face was twisted, like a ferocious ghost. "The past is just the past. Everyone was just trying to survive in the apocalypse. You took care of us, but weren't you also trying to make your own life better? This Shangri-La doesn't belong to you alone, it belongs to us too!"
"It's over... everything is over... The Black Tide is coming, whether it's me or you, there's no way to survive. In that case, why should I endure it any longer?"
"Oh?" Haji let Boswell grab his collar and asked with drunken eyes, "What can you do?"
"Kill you, kill everyone here..." Boswell said with a grin, then turned his gaze to the wine. "To taste the woman I've been dreaming of."
"The final madness," Haji shrugged. But he didn't show any anger. In Boswell's hands, he raised his head and looked at the sky with a calm gaze... "We're going to die anyway, does it matter who we die at the hands of?"
"Lia is Singel's woman. I've supported him for so long, that's enough. He owes me a favor anyway. This kind of thing, it's always better for the person involved to come forward."
"You still think Singel can come back?" Boswell laughed in anger. "Are you still so naive?"
Haji didn't answer him, still silently looking at the sky. As if there was a flower there.
In fact, there were no flowers in the sky, but there was a line.
A white line descending from the sky, separating the Black Tide.
Haji couldn't see what was in that line, but he felt it should be a person.
"You better not regret it," he said to Boswell, then勉强lifted the wine barrel next to him. "As your former big brother, let me buy you one last drink."
"Farewell."(To be continued..)
