Colonial Suit
#1134 - dream
Meanwhile, in another antique street of unknown location.
A dirty, ugly, cramped, yet quiet bar.
Muse was silently drinking. On the wooden table in front of him, there was only a glass, a bottle of wine, and a few plates of dried fruit. Around him were old wooden furniture, and above his head, old neon lights flickered listlessly, occasionally sparking.
Muse had been drinking for a long time, with a large pile of empty bottles at his feet. No one came to collect them, and no one urged him to leave, as if he were an invisible man. In fact, this bar was not well-known, couldn't afford dancers to perform stripteases, and had no exciting activities. It was a forgotten bar, only remembered by old, antique-like creatures. They would occasionally come here for a drink and leave a large sum of money.
Although the bar was small, the prices were extremely high. The price of a drink here was enough to stay in the most luxurious hotel in the largest POS of the human fleet for a month, including transportation and girls serving you with different outfits every day.
The reason was simple: this bar didn't sell alcohol, it sold memories.
Bang! The bottom of the empty bottle collided with the table, making a hollow sound. Muse then realized he had finished drinking, so he drunkenly raised his head and held up a finger. No one dissuaded him, and even the bar owner thought it was a matter of course, so a new bottle was quickly placed on his table. This was also a characteristic of this place. Who would come to a bar if not to get drunk? Trying to kindly persuade someone not to drink too much and then have a legendary story happen – try doing that in reality, and the bar owner wouldn't beat you to a pulp and force you to lick his boots.
So Muse continued to drink, and a special drink was added in front of him.
It was a mist-like blue liquor, with layers of blue mist rising from it.
The bar owner sat behind the bar, also holding a bottle of wine and drinking. Seeing Muse's drunken gaze, he waved his hand.
"Blue Future, my new creation."
"Heh…" Muse chuckled and unhesitatingly picked up the glass and drank it all. He never cared if someone tampered with his drink. A liquor that could even confuse a black hole-level being didn't exist in this universe.
But to be honest, this Blue Future was indeed excellent. After drinking this glass, Muse's eyes became blurred. Through the dreamlike blue mist, he seemed to see many things, yet he also seemed to see nothing. That ambiguous feeling made even a peak black hole-level being like him feel intoxicated. "I like it very much…" Half-drunk and half-awake, he murmured. "But what do you want to show me? My future? Or the future of humanity? Or perhaps… the future of the universe?"
"I'm just showing you my dream," the bar owner said softly, also slurring his words drunkenly. "A dream I had a long, long time ago, when I was very, very young."
"Dreams will fade," Muse grinned, picked up a bottle of wine, opened it, and drank it without using a glass.
The mellow liquor flowed down his throat, making him feel comfortable and indulgent.
"Do you have any snacks?" Muse asked. "Snacks" was the bar's code word for drugs.
The bar owner shook his head. "You know, I never sell snacks here."
"I thought you wouldn't. But I still want to try," Muse replied. "The longer I live, the more empty I feel. Is this the case for every life, craving longevity when they are fragile, but craving an end when they have infinite lifespan?"
"Greed," the bar owner said. "That's our tragedy. Our greed is endless, which promotes our evolution and also leads to our ending. I have to say, this world is still too small. When we conquer one goal after another, and reach one peak after another, our greed becomes increasingly pale and shallow. If there was a world that could expand infinitely, how wonderful would that be."
"Oh," Muse shrugged. "That's not something a bar owner should say."
"That question of yours also shouldn't be a question for a bar owner," the bar owner smiled slightly, and didn't continue.
At this moment, the doors of the bar opened. Two human men walked in.
The one in front was perfect, so perfect that he would immediately become a human celebrity if he were put in the spotlight. He also had a head of golden, choppy hair, a lazy demeanor, and wore a faded, washed-white shirt with jeans. Behind this man was a black-haired youth, silently following with his head lowered. Strangely, even Muse's sensory perception couldn't accurately lock onto him, as if this black-haired man was just a shadow.
Muse didn't turn his head. He just silently drank his wine, waiting for the golden-haired man to walk behind him before gently sighing.
"I thought you were dead."
"Everyone thought I was dead, because they thought it would be better if I were dead. But unfortunately, I'm still alive," the golden-haired man replied, with a lazy smile on his face. "And I'm living quite well."
"Actually, I also thought it would be better if you were dead, but I'm still very happy now," Muse sighed, then turned around to face the man. "Have you been doing well lately? My… brother?"
The neon lights flickered, reflecting on the man's face. It was a familiar face. It was Heck.
"I'm very well, dear brother. Better than you can imagine," Heck replied, casually pulling up a chair and sitting down, picking up a glass of wine in front of Muse. "Hey, you still like this old antique place. I have to say, you're outdated… If you continue like this, next time we meet, I might have to look for you in a junkyard."
"That's better than you disappearing from childhood without a trace," Muse replied, while rubbing his own scattered golden hair.
His expression was a bit troubled, as if he didn't know what to say, or as if he wanted to dissuade something. But he didn't need to worry, because in the next moment, Heck had already sat down opposite him, pouring a glass of wine for himself and him.
"No one can stay out of it, brother. You don't think your brother is a coward, do you?"
"I've always been proud of you," Muse was slightly stunned, then smiled. He picked up the glass in front of him and clinked it against Heck's.
"I once thought you would betray humanity, but it seems I was overthinking it."
"I've never betrayed anything. I'm just pursuing my dream," Heck said, with a smile on his face as well. His eyes burned with a gaze called confidence.
"You don't think dreams aren't worth pursuing, do you?"
"Cheers to dreams," Muse replied, then raised his glass.
The two glasses clinked, and they drank them down in one gulp. At this moment, neither Muse nor Heck wanted to say anything more, and neither wanted to explain anything more. As long as they could reunite here, at this moment, who wasn't here for dreams and hopes?
Men's language doesn't need explanation.
If you don't understand, it just means you haven't done it yet.
If you understand, you need to do more…
For the sake of dreams.
