Colonial Suit
#132 - Hensel's teaching
"To stop people from hating them, they dressed in men's clothing, trying to disguise themselves as the Lucky Twins. They even changed identities every day so they could both experience what it was like to be the Lucky Twins," Hensel's voice was hoarse, yet carried an indescribable depth.
"Unfortunately, it was all in vain. They were merely constructing their own virtual world."
Saying this, Hensel took a puff of his cigar, then gave Blood瞳 a deep look.
"If you want them to be your companions, then first ask yourself, do you believe in fate?"
"Fate!?" Blood瞳's eyes momentarily glazed over, but quickly refocused. He raised his hand, looking at the lines on his fingers. He thought of his days and nights on Planet X35, of his battles with beasts many times stronger than himself for a bit of food. He remembered when he had a high fever, and Li'er fed him, mouthful by mouthful, the food she had earned with her body. A cold smile appeared at the corner of his lips.
"If I believed in fate, I would have died when I was three years old."
His five fingers clenched into a fist.
"I only believe in fists. My fists."
"Very good." Hensel nodded in satisfaction, a hint of admiration flashing in his eyes. "You are more resolute and persistent than I was back then..."
"Do you know why I wanted you to be my subordinate?"
"I don't know," Blood瞳 replied calmly. Hensel had said he admired his abilities, but Blood瞳 knew it wasn't that simple.
"Because you are very much like me," Hensel said with a smile. "In you, I see the shadow of my younger self. Just as fearless, just as convinced in yourself. And that is the essential quality for a melee mercenary. Those who only know how to use abilities will never possess it. They will never understand."
With that, Hensel stood up and walked towards the door first. "Come with me. Kid, perhaps... before you become independent, I should teach you one last thing, even though I haven't taken you into battle. But this lesson is essential. Because that guy, that's what he did for me back then."
"What is it?" Blood瞳 was taken aback, but immediately followed.
"Hehe..." Hensel chuckled. "A not-so-easy course. If you can't endure the pain, you can choose not to learn it."
"That's not a good reason," Blood瞳 smiled as well.
The two walked out of the room, and Hensel's hoarse voice echoed faintly in the corridor.
"Do you know? We melee mercenaries are the closest to higher beings. Because our evolution is always faster than those who only know how to use abilities. You are already a trainee; this course might be the key to unlocking the Meteor rank."
......................................
At the same time, on the other side of the Mercenary Branch, Bosi and Mia were strolling along a dirty street.
This was the dirtiest and most chaotic area of the T6 space station. The ground was covered in sewage and garbage. A stench mixed with sour smells assaulted the nostrils, and the automatic cleaning system had long ceased to function. Everywhere one looked, there were swaying figures. Dirty bodies huddled in the corners.
This area was known as Black Corner, the slum of the T6 branch.
Just as there is darkness behind any light, the T6 space station was no exception. Black Corner was filled with people who had no jobs. They may have once had a good income, but now they were no different from vagrants. Without star coins, they couldn't even afford to leave this place and could only gather here to eke out a living. Over time, Black Corner became the most chaotic place in the T6 branch. Gamblers, hooligans, assassins, and prostitutes were everywhere. Even violent gangs had emerged.
However, although chaotic, the most basic survival was guaranteed. Most of the facilities in Black Corner were not maintained, but the food supply boxes were always functioning properly. This was to prevent them from rebelling, but don't expect anything good in terms of taste.
Bosi and Mia's residence was on Third Street in Black Corner.
This was a relatively better area in Black Corner and was also a gathering place for several violent gangs. However, this had nothing to do with the Twin siblings. The reason they lived in the slums was not because they were short of money, but because they were ostracized. The Twin siblings couldn't stand the way ordinary people looked at them as if they were venomous snakes. Only by living here could they enjoy a normal life.
Of course, not many people knew their identities. Because no one would believe that the dignified mercenary adults would live here.
"Pa." Brother Bosi's leather shoe stepped into a puddle of sewage. He frowned in disgust. "It's dirty again, Sister. Why do we have to live in a place like this? We made a lot of money this time; we should move to a new home."
"My dear brother," Mia replied without looking up, carefully choosing her steps. "Have you forgotten how those guys treated us in the upscale residential areas? We are unwelcome people. If you want to have your supplies cut off every morning, be spat on by children when you walk down the street, and be treated like a venomous snake by everyone you talk to, then perhaps I can consider your suggestion."
"I really want to kill them."
"That's impossible, Brother. We can't kill everyone. Especially where there are laws," Mia turned her head and smiled sweetly. "But this place isn't bad, is it? At least no one recognizes us. And many people are willing to interact with us."
"Including some annoying flies," Bosi replied dejectedly.
At that moment, a few hoodlum-looking guys were leaning against the roadside in front of them. They were kicking a scantily clad woman, who was rolling around in pain. It was obvious that this was a robbery scene. And the target was a prostitute.
This was too common in Black Corner. Usually, the Twin siblings would just pretend they didn't see it. But today, Bosi felt a fire burning in his heart and walked straight over.
"You... hello!" His expression was simple, and he looked a little timid. "Can you let me pass? I... I want to go home."
"Kid, are you looking for death?" The leader of the hoodlums replied with a sneer. In fact, he had seen the Twin siblings a long time ago, but the Twin siblings were dressed smartly, so he had been afraid to act. He was afraid that the Twin siblings were some big shots who had come to Black Corner to experience life. But now he could see that they were just two kids, two kids who didn't know why they had some money and had accidentally wandered into the slums.
This was the best kind of easy target. The leader of the hoodlums was in tears. It had been so many days... since he had carried out a decent robbery. These slum bastards were all broke. Didn't they know that robbery was also a physical job? They couldn't even produce a single star coin; it was too disrespectful.
Fortunately, there were two sheep coming to his door. The leader of the hoodlums smiled evilly, his eyes scanning back and forth over the Twin siblings, and his eyes lit up when he saw the sister, Mia.
Not bad, a nice little girl... Maybe today, in addition to a harvest, he could also taste some fresh meat? Hmm... this little boy wasn't bad either. Let's take care of them together.
The most ⊥ new ⊥ small ⊥ said ⊥ in ⊥ six ⊥ 9 ⊥⊥ book ⊥⊥ bar ⊥⊥ first ⊥ hair!
At the thought of Mia's petite body struggling and crying beneath him, the leader of the hoodlums felt a surge of heat in his heart. The sneer on his face became even more sinister. He turned his head to a few of his subordinates and walked over, swaying.
"Kids, where did you come from? Don't you know that Black Corner is a dangerous place? Listen to Uncle; you should go home quickly."
"But I live here," Bosi blinked his big eyes and replied naively.
"Is that so? Then that's unfortunate." The leader of the hoodlums was even more certain that the two kids in front of him were two big fat sheep. A violent look suddenly flashed in his eyes. "Hand over all the money on you. And you two have to come with us."
"Why?" Little Bosi asked innocently, as if he didn't know anything.
"This is a robbery... kid. Didn't your parents teach you what to do when faced with a robbery?" The leader of the hoodlums laughed arrogantly. Then he pulled out an iron pipe from behind him. At the same time, his companions surrounded him from all sides, each with a ferocious smile on his face.
They could already foresee the two kids' panicked expressions. That expression of fear and despair was so wonderful. Several hoodlums couldn't help but pounce on them, devouring these two sweet pastries completely.
Behind them, the robbed prostitute secretly got up and ran away without looking back.
However, all the hoodlums were surprised to find that the two kids didn't have any panicked expressions. Looking at their ferocious faces, they even showed innocent and pure gazes. Especially little Bosi, who was even cutely sucking on his finger.
"Excuse me... what is a robbery? Is it delicious?"
"A robbery is when you give me everything on you, and you two have to come with me." The leader of the hoodlums grinned and reached out to grab little Bosi. "Don't struggle, or Uncle will hurt you."
"Don't... I hate Uncle," Little Bosi finally showed a panicked expression.
"Hehehehehe." A group of hoodlums laughed. Each of their eyes contained cruelty and playfulness.
But at this moment, the little girl Mia, who had not spoken, finally spoke. She frowned, seeming a little impatient, and said, "Bosi, stop playing. I'm tired and want to rest."
"What!?" Several hoodlums were stunned at the same time. Then they saw a scene that frightened them to the extreme.
A silver light flashed, and fresh red blood spurted into the air like a fountain. Their leader of the hoodlums was torn apart in an instant, shattering as if he had disintegrated. Fresh blood mixed with internal organs slid to the ground, emitting a strong bloody smell.
In the blood, little Bosi, dressed in a jet-black tailcoat, stood quietly in the middle of the corpse fragments.
There was no longer any trace of innocence or simplicity on his face.
"Okay, since Sister said so, then let's just kill them all."
That's what he said.
