#17 - The breath of blood
Chapter 17: The Scent of Blood (Free Chapter)
Bloodshot's speed was so fast that he appeared as a darting black shadow in the eyes of onlookers. With a few leaps, he reached the side of the carriage, grabbing the edge of the roof with one hand and flipping himself up.
His movements were so swift that the bandits hadn't even noticed his presence when he was already on the roof. Seeing a bandit raise his long blade to strike a panicked guard, Bloodshot leaped up without even securing his footing. In mid-air, he unleashed a vicious spinning whip kick. The powerful kick created a sharp whistling sound as it struck the inside of the bandit's arm, shattering his larynx with a single blow.
As blood splattered, the bandit fell backward, his eyes wide with disbelief. Bloodshot, using the momentum of his spin, snatched the long blade from the bandit's hand. With a flick of his wrist, he decapitated another bandit who had just climbed onto the roof!
The head, mixed with blood, tumbled into the air. Only then did Bloodshot's feet finally land firmly on the roof.
One attack, two lives taken. Bloodshot had accomplished all of this in mid-air. The fluid, seamless movements stunned everyone present.
Old Vick and the other guards, who had been watching him, shuddered involuntarily, their faces pale.
They already knew Bloodshot was a professional warrior, but they hadn't expected him to be so fierce. The cruel, silent way he killed was even more terrifying. Could this be the same taciturn mute who did whatever he was told? Many in the caravan who had bullied Bloodshot in the past turned pale, their hearts filled with trepidation.
Having killed two men, Bloodshot's breathing hadn't even changed. Seeing the guard who had been targeted by the bandit still trembling, he directly handed him the long blade.
"Take this. If anyone climbs up, cut off their head. Just like I did."
"Ah... ah... yes... yes," the guard stammered, nodding frantically, unable to hide the fear in his eyes.
He was the closest to Bloodshot, and Bloodshot had even splattered blood on his face when he killed the bandits. But the guard didn't dare wipe it off. He was completely overwhelmed by Bloodshot's murderous aura. Having killed two men, Bloodshot was now radiating danger from head to toe. Especially when he looked at him, the depths of those crimson eyes seemed to flicker with scarlet flames, making him almost forget to breathe.
However, Bloodshot didn't care about the guard's thoughts. After placing the blade in his hand, he bent down again, hugging the roof as he darted toward another direction. In the eyes of the others, he seemed to have truly transformed into a hunting panther. With a few leaps, he arrived at another rooftop. Seeing a bandit about to climb through the opening, he suddenly slid along the ground, kicking out with his foot.
With a muffled thud, Bloodshot felt as if he had kicked a slab of iron. He hadn't managed to take the opponent down in one blow. It turned out that the bandit wasn't a fool either. Seeing Bloodshot kill two of his comrades in quick succession, he had already prepared himself. When climbing onto the roof, he held a steel shield instead of a long blade. Bloodshot's kick sent him staggering back a few steps, but he was unharmed. Only a shallow footprint appeared on the shield in his hand.
"Hey, kid, you're pretty strong," the bandit sneered mockingly. He pulled out a repeating crossbow from behind him.
"But let's see if you can dodge this. You damned pig, die!"
The dense clicking of the mechanism rang out, and dozens of crossbow bolts shot out like a rainstorm. Bloodshot's expression didn't even change. With a flash of his body, he jumped off the roof. The rain of arrows swept past behind him, not even harming a single hair on his head. While in mid-air, he grabbed the edge of the carriage with one hand, twisting and swinging, using the strength of his waist to flip back onto the roof. He reappeared behind the bandit.
The bandit had just emptied a magazine of crossbow bolts. How could he have any chance to react? He watched in wide-eyed horror as Bloodshot, who had just fallen off the roof, climbed back up. His eyes widened to the size of saucers.
With a muffled sound, Bloodshot's finger blade mercilessly pierced his throat, tearing his trachea apart. In the blink of an eye, another person killed!
From the moment he abandoned the wooden spear and decided to fight in close combat, only a minute had passed. Already, three bandits had fallen under his assault.
Lightning fast!
Bloodshot pulled his blood-soaked fingers from the bandit's throat. His gaze was cold. He casually wiped his fingers on the bandit's clothes before leaping toward another roof. Behind him, the bandit's eyes quickly glazed over, and his corpse fell heavily from the roof, crashing onto another comrade who was trying to climb up.
Just like that, Bloodshot appeared wherever there was danger. In a few minutes, he had traveled almost the entire length of the carriage formation. More than ten bandits had died at his hands. As the slaughter continued, the murderous aura around him grew heavier, but his eyes grew brighter. His short shirt was already soaked with blood, but he didn't feel any discomfort. In the endless killing, Bloodshot seemed to have returned to the hunting grounds. In his eyes, the bandits were no longer living beings, but rather, reachable prey. Gradually, the scarlet in the depths of his pupils was spreading, unknowingly dyeing his entire pupils red.
Palm strikes, finger blades, punches, leg sweeps. In the midst of flying flesh and blood, Bloodshot's entire body seemed to have transformed into a deadly weapon. Although he wasn't holding anything in his hands, he himself was a weapon. He was a human-shaped meat grinder, stirring up a bloody storm wherever he went.
To be honest, Bloodshot was actually a very cruel person. It was just that his cruelty was hidden beneath a harmless exterior, far less frightening than those ferocious bandits. But once it was exposed, both enemies and comrades alike were shocked by his ferocity. It was precisely because of this that his killing inspired the morale of the caravan guards. In their minds, Bloodshot was one of their own, and the more ferocious he was, the better. Amid cheers, the guards finally had the courage to attack the bandits climbing onto the roof. This greatly increased the pressure on the bandits. Everywhere, bandits could be seen being stabbed off the roof by the guards with their spears.
Karisa, outside the carriage formation, was almost driven mad.
The short few minutes felt like a nightmare to him. Since he had given the order to fight to the death, his subordinates had been constantly bleeding. Although those caravan guards weren't much of a force, that fierce and agile figure was too terrifying. Karisa was also an old bandit who had killed countless people, but he had never seen such cruel and clean slaughter. It was as if killing was no longer violence in that person's hands, but an instinct like breathing, a simple and clean art. There were no flashy movements, no unnecessary dodges. That fierce figure leaped across the rooftops, killing his subordinates one by one with concise but efficient movements. No matter how his subordinates resisted, it was all in vain.
Watching his subordinates desperately climb onto the roof, only to be killed without dignity, Karisa's heart grew colder and colder. The murderous intent in his eyes grew stronger and stronger. As a small bandit group, he was now practically finished. Even if he could break through this caravan, the spoils he obtained wouldn't be enough to make up for his losses. A good half of his subordinates had died. When he returned to the gathering point, he would definitely be swallowed whole.
"Pig Tooth, open the safety."
"Oh, got it..." Pig Tooth nodded, about to turn around, when he suddenly froze. "Wait, wait, what did you say? Boss, you want to use that?"
"No way, Boss, that's what we finally managed to get! It took us three months' income to get it. If you use it here, we won't have the energy to restart it."
"I said, open the safety!" Karisa roared, his face contorted. "Are you disobeying my orders?"
"Ah, of course not! I... okay... Boss..." Pig Tooth was startled by the ferocity in Karisa's eyes. He hurriedly ran to the motorcycle control panel and opened a small mechanism. Inside was a red button.
With a pained expression, Pig Tooth gritted his teeth and pressed the button.
At this time, Bloodshot's killing spree on the carriage formation was coming to an end. Although the bandits' fierce attacks were fearless, and they had indeed opened up gaps in the carriage formation, they were simply no match for Bloodshot. The rooftop was only so big, and ranged weapons couldn't be used effectively. And when it came to close combat, they weren't even as good as Bloodshot's little finger. So soon, they no longer dared to climb onto the roof, hiding in the distance and shouting.
Standing on the roof, Bloodshot took a deep breath, feeling the bloody scent, a rare look of satisfaction appearing on his face. In the past period of time, more than twenty bandits had died at his hands. His body was practically as if it had been fished out of a pool of blood. But it was precisely this taste that gave Bloodshot's heart a rare peace. It relaxed him, it intoxicated him.
Opening his emotionless eyes, Bloodshot looked at the bandits in the distance, a flash of greedy light passing through them... There, there were still many prey.
Just then, a hateful voice entered his ears.
"That black-haired kid, die!"
