#451 - The missing half of the parchment
Chapter 450: The Missing Half of the Parchment
The third drawing was very peculiar…
Because it was the least clear of all the drawings. The entire parchment was covered with intricate lines. ┏ _┓ It was unknown what was used to draw these lines, but even after countless years they remained clear, completely turning the picture into a tangled mess. At first glance, it looked like a child's angry scribbles, or as if someone deliberately destroyed the original artwork, preventing those who came later from knowing its contents.
But in Jules' eyes, it was somewhat different.
She faintly discerned a figure from the back, the same figure as in the first painting. Only this time, the figure wasn't painting, but looking at something. The scene in front of her had been ruined by the lines. Jules could only rely on her intuition to judge that it seemed to be a nebula in the universe. It looked somewhat like a vortex, and there seemed to be something within it. Just then, the strangest thing happened. Whether it was because the lines were too messy or the room's lights were flickering, Jules suddenly felt the picture come 'alive'. The girl in the background slowly turned around and glanced at her.
A sharp pain suddenly shot through her mind, and Jules threw down the scroll with a cry.
"Miss!" Hans stood up nervously, a look of horror flashing in his eyes. Because in that instant, he suddenly felt unfamiliar with the young lady, as if another spirit had suddenly appeared in her body, a terrifying ghost that made him shudder!
But this feeling was fleeting. He saw the young lady throw down the scroll and, anxious, was about to step forward.
"I'm fine." Just then, Jules spoke again, slightly out of breath. "Don't come over, let me… let me rest for a bit."
"Since you're feeling unwell, we shouldn't continue looking at them today," Hans said with concern. "Anyway, these paintings are already in our possession. As long as you keep them safe, you'll have plenty of time in the future…" Jules was silent, staring intently at the scroll at her feet. After a while, she shook her head, rejecting Hans' suggestion.
"No, I want to keep looking."
"Miss!" Hans was truly anxious. He found that although these scrolls looked simple, Jules seemed to be bewitched. In just a few minutes, she had shown signs of emotional disturbance and a splitting headache. If she continued to look, he didn't know what would happen.
Damn it, the young lady was now the only legitimate heir to the family. If something happened to her, Hans couldn't imagine whether this ancient family could continue.
Because their family was unlike any other family in the Fifth World today, with all inheritance completely determined by bloodline. In other words, Jules was the family, and the family was Jules. Without Jules, there would be no family.
Unfortunately, even though Hans was one of the most core members of the family, he couldn't stop Jules' decision. He could only sit down helplessly, watching Jules pick up the parchment again.
The third painting…
"What exactly… are you trying to tell me?"
Jules murmured almost imperceptibly, focusing her gaze on the painting again.
Before her was just an ordinary piece of parchment, and of course, the painting on it wouldn't move. But Jules knew that it wasn't the painting that was moving, but her heart, her spirit, her thoughts, and the most mysterious and unpredictable trace of legacy in her bloodline.
These scrolls that Hans had brought out from the ancestral graveyard, in anyone else's eyes, were just ordinary lines, with no substantial content. But in her eyes, they were completely different. Although she couldn't say why, Jules seemed to be able to feel the intent condensed on each line. It was a mysterious meaning that attracted her like a drug.
Her gaze fell on the scroll again. This time, the scroll returned to its ordinariness. No matter what Jules did, the scroll remained unchanged.
Could it be… that I'm just being paranoid?
Jules thought strangely, and was about to put down the scroll. Just then, due to a change in angle, she suddenly felt the scroll change again. The object the girl faced was faintly revealed amidst the countless chaotic lines. Jules was immediately startled and quickly focused her attention.
She saw it… She saw it…
It was a sphere… or rather, a small black dot. This black dot was so small that it was almost non-existent. It was impossible to notice without careful observation. In addition, the light and the chaotic lines made it feel like a drop of ink that had accidentally fallen on the scroll. But if it was combined with the actions and posture of the girl in the painting…
That's right!! The girl in the background was looking at this black dot, pointing at it!!
In an instant, Jules was finally certain. Her heart pounded violently. Although she didn't know what this painting was trying to convey to her, there was no doubt that this inconspicuous black dot was the core of the scroll!!
If the entire painting was viewed as a whole, then its meaning was that in some mysterious place, the girl in the background was observing a strange sphere!
Wait… Perhaps 'observing' shouldn't be used. What if… what if… the word 'discovering' was used instead?
Discovering!?
This girl in the background, a long, long time ago, discovered something in some mysterious place!!??
Her heart beat violently, and Jules faintly felt that she had grasped a clue. A very mysterious, very terrifying clue that had been hidden for countless years. Her bloodline, her family, everything, all originated from these paintings.
Yes, the origin of all events!
The room was as silent as death. Even a needle dropping on the ground could be heard. Jules stared intently at the scroll, countless thoughts flashing through her mind that she didn't even dare to imagine. On the opposite side, Hans also watched Jules nervously, afraid that something would happen to her.
Jules' expression was so serious, so focused. Unconsciously, even beads of sweat appeared on her nose. Suddenly, Hans felt his vision blur, and he actually saw a vague shadow behind Jules.
"Miss!!" Greatly alarmed, Hans shouted without hesitation and lunged towards Jules.
But as soon as he stood up, the shadow suddenly disappeared. Hans' movement also froze in mid-air.
"Huh?" Jules raised her head, looking at Hans strangely. "What are you doing?"
"I…" Hans was covered in sweat, saying nervously. "I… I saw a strange shadow."
"What are you talking about?" Jules looked behind her, following Hans' gaze. She frowned. "I think you were too nervous in the ancestral graveyard. There are only two of us here. Where would there be a shadow?"
"But Miss!" Hans wanted to argue, but was interrupted coldly by Jules.
"Sit down. Hans, don't disturb me."
"This… Alright… Fine." Helpless, Hans could only sit down again, but his eyes were fixed on the back of Jules.
He swore that it was definitely not an illusion. He did see a shadow. A woman's shadow that should absolutely not exist in this room!!
However, Jules didn't know any of this. At this moment, all of her attention was drawn to the scroll. In the bright light, she tried to rotate it many times, trying to find something else on the scroll, but without any result. Even the previous black dot had disappeared.
The third painting had once again become countless chaotic lines, like a scribble.
"Is that all there is?" Jules murmured softly, putting down the parchment. She then turned her gaze to the fourth scroll.
This scroll didn't have too many complex lines, only a bit blurry. But in general, it was a city. One side was thriving, while the other was in ruins. The city was faintly divided by a road. On the road was still the figure of that woman from the back.
The most ⊥ new ⊥ small ⊥ say ⊥ in ⊥ six ⊥ 9 ⊥⊥ book ⊥⊥ bar ⊥⊥ debut!
"What does this mean?" Jules looked at it strangely, thinking for a long time without understanding its meaning. In the end, she had no choice but to put it down.
What remained was the fifth parchment.
Also the last one.
The first four parchments had revealed some information to Jules. Although this information was obscure and incomplete, it faintly made Jules feel something. Then what important secret would this fifth, and last, parchment hide?
Jules' heart stirred, and she slowly opened the parchment.
But then, she cried out in shock.
"How could this be!"
The fifth… that is, the last parchment, was not complete! Instead, it had been cut off by half!! And the drawing on it was not complex either. It was still that mysterious woman. Only this time, she didn't leave Jules with a back view, but a profile. She was seen lowering her head, leaning softly against a large tree. Her hands and wings were drooping beside her. At her feet, a massive amount of blood spread. And the source of the blood was her chest…
This woman… was dead?
Jules widened her eyes in disbelief. These paintings all revolved around this woman. She thought this woman was related to the family's bloodline. But she never expected that the last painting would be like this.
The woman was dead.
How could she die?
Why would she die!
What did her death… have to do with her family? What connection did it have with her bloodline?
The clues were cut off at this moment! And what made Jules most angry was that the reason for the woman's death, that is, the half of the painting that the woman faced, had been cut off by someone. It was as if someone deliberately hid this secret. That painful feeling made Jules want to go crazy.
"Damn it! Damn it! Damn it! Why! Why is there only half!"
"Hans! Tell me why there is only half! Where's the other half? Where's the other half?"
"Miss…" Hans shrugged helplessly. "That's all there is. When I got them, the fifth parchment only had half. I've given it all to you."
"But… it's not complete!" Jules said angrily. "It should have another half, the most important half."
"I'm very sorry, Miss."
"You…" Jules glared at Hans, only feeling a surge of anger in her heart. But in the end, it all turned into a sigh. "Never mind… I know you've tried your best. I don't blame you."
"Thank you for your understanding, Miss."
"Go out. I want to be alone to calm down. Tell Sharla that no one is allowed to disturb me."
"But Miss… your current state."
"Go, I'm fine."
Jules waved her hand, letting Hans walk out of the room. Watching the door of the room slowly close, she only felt her mind was in chaos, faintly aching again.
"What is that missing half?" rq!.
