#958 - Looking for salvation in disaster
At the same time, on the other end of the endless clouds and mist.
Somewhere on a dark continent.
Dark clouds churned in the sky, with thunder and lightning raging across the land. On the black earth, poisonous and corrosive gases erupted from the ground from time to time, polluting the winding rivers. This was not a world suitable for life; even the most tenacious cockroaches would likely find no soil to survive in. If one had to use a word to describe it, perhaps it should be called…
Hell.
A group of travelers were trekking through Hell, draped in tattered rags, with long wings dragging behind them.
“Mommy, I’m hungry…” a little girl, reduced to skin and bones, said weakly. Her wings were covered in mud, making her look like a dried-up little bird.
It was toxic mud, and every drop was eroding the little girl’s life.
But no one cared. In fact, in this fleeing group, just being alive and having the strength to speak was something to be envied.
The First High Heaven, Projection of Calamity.
Disasters from the real world created this place. Angels were born from disaster and died from disaster. From the moment they were born, they had to struggle on the toxic land. Here, there were volcanoes, lightning, ubiquitous toxic springs, and storms sweeping across the land. There was no quiet harbor. Poisonous monsters roamed the continent at all times, and angels were the most delicious prey.
The cosmic cycle of cause and effect, the intertwined weaving of fate, created all of this. Don't assume that Fallen Angels are the masters of the High Heaven; in fact, because every evil thought must be recycled, when no one bears their sins for them, they themselves are the victims of these evil thoughts.
Of course, if these sins could be transferred, they would gain power from it.
In the distant Age of Great Chaos, it was Khordal who bore all their sins, allowing them to escape torment and ultimately become Khordal's most steadfast allies, war attendants who would never betray them. In that era, Khordal used his hard arms and indomitable will to hold up a sky for them, and also fed these sins back into the universe.
War, conquest, a series of transfers, ultimately created the glory of the Fallen Angel race.
But unfortunately, that was all in the past. The most glorious era of the Fallen Angels had ended under the attack of the entire universe, and now it was their turn to bear the weight of sin alone.
Every bit of pain and despair from the real world would be reflected here, amplified and inflicted on them. They would die, but they would also be reborn in evil thoughts, endlessly, without end.
“Hold on a little longer. We're almost there,” a woman who looked about seventeen years old replied. She was the little girl's mother, a sacred title.
However, they had no fathers.
Fallen Angels reproduced asexually; almost all of them were female. The reason was that females had stronger adaptability and could bear more sins and evil thoughts. This was the law of natural selection, not something they as individuals could change. And whenever evil thoughts and sins accumulated to a certain extent in a Fallen Angel, she would naturally become pregnant and give birth to the next generation.
The miracle of life was perfectly demonstrated in the Fallen Angels. No one knew where their wisdom and souls came from, or how their lives began, but it all happened naturally.
The universe needed a garbage dump, a place to (discard) recycle evil thoughts.
So, there were Fallen Angels.
There was the Nine Heavens.
“Mayberyl, how much longer before we reach the shelter?” the mother asked, shivering in the wind, struggling to move forward.
At the front of the group, a woman who looked slightly stronger turned her head and said expressionlessly, “Seven more hours before the Calamity Volcano stops erupting. We will find a warm cave near it to help us weather the ensuing ice age. The food we need will also be found in the passing Toxic Jungle.”
“But… Little Miya can’t hold on anymore,” the mother said, trembling, looking at the leader with pleading eyes. “Can you give me a little food first? Just a little bit will do.”
“Don’t dream,” Mayberyl replied. “Every portion of food is rationed. What about the others if I give it to you now? What’s more, if we don’t have enough strength when we reach the Toxic Jungle, we won’t be able to obtain the next batch of food. Everyone will die!”
“We… won’t die…” the mother said weakly.
“Yes, we won’t die, we’ll just experience a cycle more painful than death, and may even turn into toxic beasts. Metri, haven’t you had enough?” the leader glared at her. “I advise you to talk less nonsense. Wasting a little more saliva is wasting a little more strength. If you can’t get through the Toxic Jungle, I won’t save you.”
“Yes… Yes… I understand…” the mother replied timidly. Lowering her head, she saw her daughter's pleading eyes, and finally gritted her teeth, cut her wrist, and brought it to her daughter's mouth.
“Suck a little… Blood is always warm… Although it’s not enough, it should make you stronger.”
Raising her head and seeing that no one was paying attention, the mother squatted down and wrapped the girl in her dirty wings, her eyes flashing with a look called love. “You must remember what I’m about to say. I don’t think I can make it; I can’t get through the Toxic Jungle. So, I’ll leave you all my blood and soul power later. You must live well, and don’t fall halfway. Otherwise, you’ll be assimilated by the disasters here and turn into a toxic beast or something else.”
“Remember, death is not terrible, but never become a monster. Otherwise, you will lose even the last chance of redemption.”
The mother pressed her wrist tightly to her daughter's mouth, watching her suck her blood, and said gently. “Suck more, I’ll give it all to you… I’ll give it all to you… You must persevere, you must persevere…”
“Although this process is painful, I believe that one day you will be redeemed. Definitely… will…”

Muttering, she raised her head and looked at the dark sky. Dark clouds were dense in the sky, and thunder rumbled… This was the eternal scene of the First High Heaven. But, where was redemption?
Could the legendary redemption really appear?
She could not see the future.
However, she saw some tiny black shadows descending from the horizon…
“Marauders!!” The mother suddenly pushed her daughter forward, screaming with unknown strength. “It’s the Marauders! They’re here! Run! Everyone, run! Take my daughter away! I’ll hold them back here!”
“Mommy!” The little girl staggered, trying to return to her mother's arms, but was picked up by a pair of strong arms. The female leader, Mayberyl, held the little girl in one arm and glanced at the sky with a sullen face. “As expected, it’s the Marauders! Then, Metri, I’ll leave this to you.”
“I will remember your name.”
Saying that, she waved her hand and led the team away. The mother left behind smiled sadly and replied softly.
“No need to remember my name… Just take Little Miya away. Take her away… that’s all I ask…”
Dirty wings opened in the wind, the mother opened her thin arms and stood in front of the black shadows descending from the sky.
Her wrist was still dripping blood, but her eyes had become sharp. At this moment, she was no longer a mother, but a warrior!
A warrior of the Fallen Angel race!
“In the name of the First High Heaven, the Angel of Calamity! Disaster is born, and redemption ends at the end!”
