#99 - Sprint... Layton Corridor!!

In the vast starry sky, Medusa was traveling at high speed.

It had been seven days since they left the Aitri node, and they had completely entered the chaotic star field.

This was the last and most dangerous part of their mission. If the information was correct, they would encounter space pirates, the most terrifying wolves in the universe, during this journey.

However, on the Medusa, only the rookie crew members were truly nervous. Everyone else, whether veteran crew members or the captain, remained calm, as if this final leg of the journey was just a leisurely stroll after dinner. Long-term adventures had forged their resilience, teaching them to face adversity with a smile.

"Seriously, I knew I should have killed that guy. Now, Blood瞳哥哥 is ignoring me," Little Boshi muttered, leaning listlessly against the porthole, his face full of resentment. Beside him, his sister, Mia, was quietly reading a book on the sofa. In the nearby fireplace, a virtual fire crackled softly.

This was their room, the most luxurious cabin on the Medusa, surpassing even the captain's quarters by a significant margin.

Hearing Little Boshi's complaint, Mia put down her book and looked at her brother with amusement.

"Actually… you're jealous that he tamed that little kitty, aren't you?"

"…" Little Boshi was momentarily speechless before glaring at Mia. "You're talking like an adult again. Sister, don't forget, you were complaining about the same thing yesterday."

"Yesterday I was the younger brother…" Mia replied with a charming smile, showing no embarrassment. "Besides, my dear brother, even if you were to take action, killing that little kitty wouldn't be difficult, but taming it… I'm afraid you couldn't do it."

"Oh…" Little Boshi smacked his forehead and sat back on the sofa in frustration, grabbing a can of drink.

In fact, he knew that his sister Mia was right. With his abilities, defeating that Nether Leopard would be easy; he only needed to lift a finger. But the problem was that his abilities were too sharp. Once he acted, the only thing he would leave of the Nether Leopard would probably be a pile of碎块, so how could he tame it?

Too bad… If only I had Blood瞳哥哥's skills…

Little Boshi leaned lazily on the sofa, staring blankly at the ceiling. After a while, he blinked and said, "Sister, don't you think it's too quiet?"

"Are you talking about this journey?"

"Yeah." Little Boshi put down his drink and licked his lips. At this moment, there was no trace of innocence on his face.

"I always thought they would make a move on this route, but they haven't appeared yet. Don't you think it's strange? If this continues, we'll reach the Leyton Corridor."

The Leyton Corridor was one of the most famous areas in this chaotic star field. Although called a corridor, it was actually a航道, the only route through the Leyton Nebula. The Leyton Nebula was a rare dark nebula with a harsh internal environment and numerous ion storms. All long-range positioning systems would fail here. Only by passing through the Leyton Corridor could one traverse this area.

But precisely because of this, no one could track ships entering the Leyton Corridor.

If they waited until they entered the Leyton Corridor, the space pirates would probably have no chance to catch them. The dark nebula of the Leyton Corridor would make anyone trying to track them regret their decision.

"Speaking of the Leyton Corridor," Mia said, tapping her chin with a finger, also pondering. "Maybe that's the opportunity they're waiting for."

"Are you kidding?" Little Boshi blinked. "Then how will they solve the long-range positioning problem?"

"I have no idea," Mia shrugged her shoulders adorably, answering indifferently. "Anyway, we'll find out when the time comes. No matter what, the route has already been decided, hasn't it? The only thing we have to do is wait for them to appear and then kill them."

"I wonder… if the space pirates' blood is just as sweet."

"Hehe, that's right," Little Boshi said happily, drinking his drink and daydreaming.

At the same time, Blood瞳 had just walked out of the gravity room, wiping sweat while drinking a sports drink. A crew member was saying something to him. After a while, he paused.

"The Leyton Corridor?"

"Yes, Blood瞳大人. Captain Harry said to be extra vigilant during this time. Once we enter the Leyton Corridor, we'll be safe. Long-range positioning systems can't be used in the Leyton Corridor; no one can find us," the crew member said respectfully, glancing subtly at Blood瞳's side.

There, a jet-black leopard was following closely, its eyes gleaming with碧光. As if noticing the crew member's gaze, it raised its head, glanced at the crew member, and then opened its mouth wide to yawn.

Instantly, a bloody smell assaulted the nostrils. The crew member couldn't help but shudder.

Since this Nether Leopard was brought aboard by Blood瞳, it had already eaten half a ton of fresh meat. Almost everyone who had seen it eat was terrified. The current crew member was no exception, because he knew that the Nether Leopard only ate fresh meat because there were no live prey for it to hunt on the ship…

In other words, live prey was its favorite food.

However, Blood瞳 didn't notice the crew member's expression; he was thinking seriously. After a while, he asked, "Are you sure… that corridor can disrupt long-range positioning?"

"I'm sure, Blood瞳大人."

"Then…" Blood瞳 weighed his words. "Is it possible to find us in the corridor?"

"Well… it's not impossible. Short-range, high-powered searches can do it. But that's too unlikely, unless we run into the space pirates head-on. Other than that…"

"Other than that, we'd have to emit positioning signals ourselves," the crew member smiled. "But that's impossible."

Emit positioning signals ourselves?

Blood瞳's eyes flashed, but his cold expression quickly returned. "Understood. I'll reduce training during this time and prepare for battle. Before entering the Leyton Corridor, maintain a state of readiness to strike at any time."

"Yes," the crew member saluted respectfully and turned to leave the training room.

Watching his disappearing back, Blood瞳 sat down on the massage chair and slowly relaxed his muscles. After the massage chair started working, his gaze fell on the ceiling.

"Leyton Corridor… it seems… that's where they'll ambush us."

"But you won't be involved this time, Lieya. Before I get you custom armor, you can't fight in space."

"Awoo," the Nether Leopard growled in dissatisfaction and lay down at Blood瞳's feet.

Lieya was its new name, although it didn't like it…

Medusa was traveling fast. After another three days of sailing and seven consecutive jumps, the Leyton Nebula appeared on the bridge's star chart. But strangely, the space pirates everyone had been wary of had not appeared.

The atmosphere on the bridge was tense. Captain Harry took large puffs of his pipe, a hint of anxiety finally appearing in his eyes.

The final moment was approaching; they were about to enter the Leyton Corridor. But the danger that had not appeared was the most terrifying danger. Knowing that the space pirates would intercept them, every second of waiting felt like torture. As the Leyton Nebula grew larger and larger before his eyes, the old captain's heart also rose.

If the space pirates hadn't appeared before they entered the Leyton Corridor, then they would be safe.

"Calculate the entrance to the Leyton Corridor!"

"Understood, calculating the entrance!"

"The entrance to the Leyton Corridor has been calculated, coordinates obtained. Please confirm the entry point."

"Randomize the entry point," Captain Harry said, taking another puff of his pipe, a glint flashing in his eyes. He refused to believe that the space pirates could intercept even a randomized entry point. If they could, he would accept his fate.

"Entry point randomized. Engine power increased. Should we use the afterburners?"

"Use the afterburners, prepare the shock absorbers, raise the collision panels on the bow, crew take cover, prepare for impact," Captain Harry issued a series of orders.

"I want to rush into the corridor at the fastest speed, regardless of the cost."

"Understood, sir. Executing orders."

With the words, the Medusa's bow began to slowly deform. Large pieces of armor plating rose from both sides, gradually enveloping the entire bow. At the same time, the lights on the hull began to go out in patches, and all energy was concentrated on the engines. Gradually… the thrusters at the rear lit up with dazzling light, and the entire hull began to accelerate.

"Perform final positioning, then shut down the positioning system and enter silent mode. Activate hull camouflage; I don't want to be discovered."

"Understood, final positioning complete, positioning system shut down, hull camouflage activated. Medusa entering final acceleration phase. Energy accumulating… ten, nine, eight… should we release?"

"Release!" The old captain's eyes lit up, and he slammed his arm down. At the same time, he slumped back into the captain's chair, covered in sweat.

All the preparations that could be made had been made. The rest depended on luck…

"Boom!" A violent tremor ran through the hull. Medusa began to enter second speed. This was the speed second only to warp speed, and it was very dangerous in normal navigation. But old Harry believed that Medusa would have no problem. This was his baby; he never doubted it!

Sure enough, Medusa continued to accelerate amid tremors. Although difficult, it was still approaching second speed little by little.

Just then, a crew member suddenly shouted, "Receiving scanning signals!! The space pirates have found us!!"

"Too late!!" The old captain laughed loudly. "Afterburners at full power, we're going in!!"

"Roger!!" The crew member replied excitedly, activating the remaining energy conduits. Amid the violent shaking of the hull, Medusa, like an estrous female rhinoceros, frantically rushed into the pre-calculated entry point, heading towards the dark nebula in the vast starry sky.

That was the Leyton Nebula, a terrible place, but also their current haven.

A flash of bright light, and everyone felt a blur before their eyes. They had already entered an environment where they couldn't see their own fingers…
