“Sure, Best Actor Fu. Roger that, Best Actor Fu.” Xiao Nian was quick at selling his artiste. “Don’t worry, one of the lead roles will be Pei Zhen’s for sure.”

“Yes.” Fu Sichen’s laugh was profound. “I’ll have to trouble you for this, great manager Xiao.”

“Oh.” Fu Sichen cleared his throat and put on a serious tone. “Since Pei Zhen is going to be taking on the new film, how far is the filming location from his apartment?”

“He can come stay with me.”

His manager seldom sang praises of people or things. Hearing what Xiao Nian was saying about the place made Pei Zhen curious and hopeful.

Hence, when Pei Zhen finally saw the familiar serviced apartment building, the hope turned into fury. Pei Zhen turned around to walk away.

“Daddy!” Xiao Nian threw himself onto Pei Zhen. “Don’t go. If you go, what about me?!”

Pei Zhen said frostily, “You know what. Shut your eyes. And make sure they stay shut forever. I guarantee you eternal peace. You will have no more worries.”

“Cough, cough.” Xiao Nian laughed and rubbed his nose, seeming a little shy. “Pei Pei, it’s okay if I die, but then it means there’ll be no one to look after the Persian cat.”

“Cat?” Pei Zhen frowned. “What about Fu Sichen?” Surely he didn’t start to abuse the cat after Pei Zhen returned to being a human?

The door unlocked with a click.

Daddy Pei was about to take a step when he stopped and stepped back again with a stern expression. “Give me the key.”

“What?” It caught Xiao Nian by surprise.

Amid his subtle threatening, Pei Zhen snatched the key out of Xiao Nian’s hand and re-opened the door, and kept the key himself.

They finally entered the apartment.

Pei Zhen’s act stupified Xiao Nian, and he couldn’t think of why Daddy Pei had suddenly changed his mind about not wanting the key.

“Meow,” the cat called out.

The call of the cat interrupted his thoughts. He saw the big white well-fed Persian cat. Seeing Pei Zhen, the cat was so happy that it charged forward, and with a powerful leap, it jumped into Pei Zhen’s embrace and started to lick the man.
