Dear Broom Knight

#113 - The little lice around Alex

Taylor tilted his head back, lost in thought as he gazed at the sky.

He remained motionless for over ten minutes.

Chesca couldn't help but sneer, "Can't remember, can you?

You try to play dumb with people, and naturally, they'll find ways to use your pretense against you."

Taylor scratched his head and sighed deeply, "Lately, I keep hearing people talking about missing home and their parents, and it's not just one person saying it.

That's why I didn't pay much attention."

But listening absentmindedly, it still sank in, because he didn't think people were saying it to him on purpose.

"I didn't expect there to be people connected to the Church in our territory!" Taylor had figured out where he went wrong, so he addressed Chesca's biggest concern seriously, "Sister Chesca, it's true that I sometimes lose my head because the Baron is too lenient with me, but it was just a momentary lapse; I haven't truly forgotten the reverence I should have for the lord.

Besides, who would dare with our Baron around?"

He patted his broad chest, and the delicate white feather, hanging as a pendant on his long necklace, bounced twice in the air, "The living feather proves my loyalty, and the light of the living feather is forever my glory."

Chesca finally smiled, "You must remember that at all times.

Taylor, among us siblings, you're the most unreliable; I'm truly worried."

There were some things she couldn't bring herself to say: Baron Lowry was just too good to the four of them.

But the Baron wasn't the kind of person who handed out power and then completely ignored things… yet, he managed things very discreetly.

Fortunately, she and Valera each managed one of them.

"Actually, Sister Chesca, if you observe closely, Charles and I aren't that different," Taylor retorted unhappily, "He's just quick-witted enough to realize he shouldn't say something before the topic even starts, so he shuts up fast enough."

"He knows when to shut up," Chesca uttered three words that immediately sent Taylor sulking to the side again.

Valera had it much easier; Charles just socialized too much with outsiders and became too smooth, sometimes even trying to use a little rhetoric when facing the Baron.

His intelligence wasn't high enough to play those games in front of a mage, so Valera naturally had to stop him forcefully.

These two kids were actually very loyal, but for some reason, they occasionally created all sorts of small problems, and they also liked to compare themselves to each other.

But it wasn't necessarily a bad thing; Chesca patted the messy-haired head in front of her before looking coldly at the Knights Order's station, "It seems not everyone in the Icewind Kingdom wants Alex back home!"

"The Ice King?" Taylor tilted his large head, sticking out his tongue like a fluffy dog, "Only they would do something so thankless, shooting themselves in the foot, but even if they can keep Alex in our territory, they wouldn't know that much about outside affairs, right?

How could they coordinate so well with those Darkmoon broads?"

"Don't use such crude language; who did you learn that from?" Chesca casually stopped her brother, but she was actually quite helpless.

Although the brothers she and Valera had raised were considered polite, they still picked up some things from spending years with the local knights.

These knights were just rough and rugged in nature due to living in the frozen lands, and their mouths were a bit leaky, but their character wasn't bad.

The key was that, although the northern men were reckless, they never hit their wives… they greatly respected the wives who managed the household while they were out working and adventuring.

Of course, there was trash everywhere, so you could only look at the majority's behavior.

However, the knights who had stayed in the Living Feather Knights Order until now were generally decent people, so even though they used the term 'broads,' they didn't discriminate against women, nor did they look at people with lewd eyes, even if it was the alluring Darkmoon wearing a close-fitting robe.

Chesca certainly understood that there was nothing wrong with the Darkmoon dressing like that; in their own territory, they would even wear thinner, more revealing silk dresses… it was one of the doctrines of the Night Goddess that one must groom oneself to please oneself.

But sometimes, the only thing she could demand was politeness from her own people; she couldn't control the thoughts of outsiders.

Fortunately, few people in the Gzar Baron's territory would make mistakes for a little desire; they understood what they couldn't do.

Despite Lowry seeming to not care about anything, nothing could be hidden from him in the Gzar territory.

Moreover, Lowry had no interest in playing spy games or crime games with people.

Needless to say, regarding crime, Baron Gzar strictly adhered to the King's laws and judged according to the law… although, even in the capital, some people could ignore those seemingly strict laws.

However, in the Gzar Baron's territory, the power of money was the most useless.

Baron Lowry was very wealthy and didn't care about or want any atonement money.

Espionage was even simpler; as long as no crimes were discovered, and no information detrimental to Lowry had been sent out, if he discovered anything suspicious, he would immediately escort them out of the territory with courtesy… a solitary person, wearing only a coarse cloth garment, without even shoes, as a primitive gesture of respect, and then confiscate all of that person's belongings for a thorough examination, regardless of whether they belonged to Alex.

After all, nominally, Alex was still his subordinate!

Lowry gave the White Dragon King face by keeping him in his territory, but he didn't intend to let Alex climb on top of his head.

Alex himself understood, or rather, had been reminded by the White Dragon King, so for so many years, he had completely regarded himself as the leader and head coach of the Knights Order, never thinking of doing anything with his other identity.

Lowry also didn't allow the Living Feather Knights to interact with outside merchants alone.

He was a person who disliked trouble, so he directly adopted a method learned from history: any knight leaving the Knights Order's station must be accompanied by at least one other person.

Although Lowry hadn't extended this rule to those knights who were already married and had settled down with their families in the Knights Order's residential area or even the outside town.

However, the Living Feather Knights Order had fewer than twenty adults in total, and even fewer were married.

If they only had family outside, then according to the Knights Order's rules, they were only allowed one day a week to visit home… this referred to formal knights.

If they were apprentices who hadn't yet become knights, then their families were allowed to visit the station twice a month.

This was already a very generous treatment.

The normal noble knight orders, the little apprentices who practiced with the stipends they gave, what families did they have?

The reason Lowry didn't care about these things was because the Living Feather Knights Order itself was different.

Besides, after several years of mutual elimination, these apprentices who remained were quite obedient, and Lowry was willing to take care of their laid-back souls.

Therefore, if those few knights living outside had problems, they could be caught almost immediately.

And the knights who were randomly selected to travel in pairs generally wouldn't risk being discovered by their companions to contact outsiders.

It was too difficult to bribe multiple people in the Living Feather Knights, given their character.

Then, even if Alex had Icewind cultists around him, he couldn't possibly know so much about the outside world.

Unless, it was someone close to Alex.

"Our King is truly in danger everywhere!"

Thinking of this, Taylor couldn't help but speak.

To show respect for his father, although he was the heir to the Icewind Kingdom, Alex's close attendants were all sent by the White Dragon King.

If someone among them had a problem and even joined forces with the Icewind cult: "Are the Storm Church really going crazy?"

Although the Night Church was quite powerful, they were, after all, the state religion of another country; killing and arson in the Northern Kingdom was no problem, but stretching their hands too far would definitely anger the Storm Church.

Over the years, these major churches had basically divided their territories clearly; although they seemed to be everywhere, major operations like burying nails in the sides of great nobles or even the King could only be done in their own territories.

Of course, the cults certainly didn't care about these fixed areas; they could go wherever they wanted.

This was completely different from the Night Church planting spies among the palace servants.

No matter how good the servants were, they could never become confidants.

Patty, for example, was said to be the head maid, but who could really treat her as a servant?

Moreover, those Darkmoons from the Night Church were clearly here to take a job, and they were still confused and trying to find a way to contact Chesca!

Only the Storm Church had this ability.

Those old fogeys were really going crazy!

Don't look at the White Dragon King helplessly sending a Darkmoon out the door when one popped up in his palace, but if he knew that there were Storm Church nails in the hands of the people he sent to his grandson, he would definitely go mad.

That King had always guarded his territory like a sieve.

His nose was sharper than a dog's, and he could always smell something.

However, his territory always leaked.

This wasn't his fault.

Even if the White Dragon King was powerful, he had to accept those burdens while accepting the wealth left by his ancestors.

The Northern Kingdom had existed for tens of thousands of years!

Then, almost all of this ten thousand years of history had been intertwined with the Storm Church.

Even if the King sifted through his subordinates like a comb, he still couldn't avoid those little lice that had been lurking for hundreds of years without moving.

Just like those people who could be sent to Alex's side.
