Divine Emperor of Death
Chapter 3586 No Way Out?
Davis stared at Kronos Alistair, his eyes radiating a cold glare, which made the latter shudder ever so lightly before he lowered his gaze. He couldn't believe the sheer pressure the other party emulated on him while still being an Immortal King.
It felt unreal, making him wonder what his soul was made up of to be unleashing an aura equal to that of emperors or perhaps, even the heavens but he quickly denied the latter.
"… fine, the way I went about it is indeed wrong, but I don't think I have the patience to slowly court, gain her trust, make her leave her nest, and swear her allegiance to me in a few days, much less years. I'm only fifty, and I have already died thirty-seven times… thirty-nine if I include yours… and I'm still… a vir-"
Kronos Alistair's voice was low before he yelled out, spreading his hands.
"Come on…! You know how hard it is to survive as a Divergent… so how would I even have the thought of making a family until I saw you be successful in it…?"
"…" Davis still glared, but eventually, he softened his gaze.
"The end doesn't justify the means." He calmly spoke, "The means can only be justified by the suffering you experienced at the hands of the target, and in no way did Queen Nadija terrorize you, and in no way should I have killed you just for the power of time you hold. We both are wrong here, so let's take a step back instead of truly becoming evil, shall we?"
Davis tapped on the table with his finger, suggesting that they should take a step back and reconcile.
"Senior…?" Kronos Alistair blinked, "I didn't expect you to be righteous."
Davis narrowed his eyes, "I'll break your bones if you patronize me."
"No way… I really mean it."
"…"
Davis inwardly groaned. This was one honest yet confounding Anarchic Divergent he didn't think he would meet. Perhaps because he had time on his side, he didn't bother to lie for the most part until he needed to do so.
Nonetheless, Davis just did not want to lose his way as greed was the foremost corrupter that turned the hearts of people into something malicious and wicked. If he made an exception and killed for greed, he would do it again unless he could stop himself.
"I have killed more people than you, so let's not talk about that. My soul body will soon bring something that we have to bind, so take some time to decide your future."
"Alright," Kronos Alistair took a deep breath, "What does the binding do to me?"
"Of course, it'll give me control to end you one-sidedly if you break your contract."
"What!?"
Kronos Alistair jumped, but Davis scoffed.
"Is now any different? Otherwise, would you be even talking to me like this…?"
Kronos Alistair's expression was low as he sat down again.
He appeared to be depressed over why he had come here and got captured by a monster who now demands control over his life and death. Of course, he could end his life here and go back and repeat the process, but considering that the Divine Emperor of Death was somehow able to find out that he had experienced two more encounters, he really didn't think his chances were great.
There were too many unknowns about the Divine Emperor of Death, leading him to believe his true death was near.
He once again felt cornered to a level where he was unable to think of a way out unless he went back in time more, but he didn't want to die again because dying to this monster gives him a ridiculous amount of karmic burden.
At this rate, he imagined that there would only be around a dozen lives before he would have no hope of crossing his Empyrean Stage Tribulation, unable to reach the apex. That was even more frustrating than dying, so his expression withered.
'Do I have no choice but to accept this kind of restriction that's no different than a slave pact…?'
He asked himself, his expression sinking. Of course, the Divine Emperor of Death wouldn't be able to kill him unless he broke his word first but that was all word play. If the Divine Emperor of Death intentionally did something to him in order to anger him, should he supposed to keep quiet and watch?
The very thought of him being thrown around vexed him, but he could see no other way out, not even a gap.
He had never given up in the thirty-seven lives he used up, but in the last two lives, he painfully understood that escape might prove to be impossible.
However, what he didn't know was that Davis was hoping to establish a cordial relationship since it wouldn't be good for him to risk getting kicked out of this world.
"…!"
Abruptly, Kronos Alistair shuddered.
The overwhelming pressure that suddenly descended on him left him breathless, unable to breathe. He forcefully raised his head and looked to the side, seeing the same purple-robed man place a scroll on the table.
However, his gaze wasn't on the scroll but on the purple-robed man.
"A small correction." Davis opened his mouth from the opposite side, "He is the main body while I am the soul avatar."
'I… died twice… struggled against… a soul avatar…?'
Kronos Alistair couldn't help but reveal an unsightly smile as he raised his hand.
"Where should I etch my soul essence?"
"I haven't even written the terms yet."
Davis almost rolled his eyes. He began discussing the terms with Kronos Alistair and eventually decided on an array of rules that they must adhere to and maintain. If not, Kronos Alistair's life would be in Davis's hands while Davis faced little or negligible repercussions as only the superiority over the pact would be revoked.
"Of course, this isn't any Blood Soul Contract. This binding covenant is known as the Karmic Shell Covenant created by one of my wives talented in Karma Laws, so don't bother testing its powers or loopholes. You'll be hurt badly."
Kronos Alistair didn't bother anymore. He quickly signed the deal with his soul essence and bid farewell while cupping his hands.
Soon, he left, checking all the while if he would be assassinated or not. However, such underhanded attacks didn't shower him, leaving him cool-headed before he disappeared into the horizon.
Davis still sat on the chair, wondering if he had done the right thing.
He had let go of a big catch. He had possibly let go of a future calamity. However, his lips couldn't help but curl, as that was precisely what the major powers felt when they let him leave, so he couldn't be two-faced either.
He was willing to give the Time Divergent a chance and how he made use of it was up to him.
Davis's main body quickly returned to the city, though.
He quickly returned to Myria's side. Tia was also here this time, as she was the one who gave him the Karmic Shell Covenant.
"Big brother, I never thought you would use it here as its binding powers are insane that it would even trap an Empyrean while the user is still an Immortal Emperor. The resources I used to make the Karmic Shell Covenant are already gone, so don't expect another one from me until we enter the true immortal world."
Tia pouted, causing Davis to smile, "Is that so? You did well with the dwindling resources of the Astral Forgeheart Minor Realm."
He reached out his hand, patting her head with tenderness before he turned to look at Myria.
"Then can you tell me what kind of Dimensions there are in the true immortal world, the Three-Layered Universe?"
