Dominate the Country

At the end of the 24th year of Chengtian, in December of 1798, outside the port of Valparaiso in central Chile [the largest seaport in Chile and the largest port on the Pacific coast of South America. Founded in 1536, it is the sea gate of Santiago, the seat of the Chilean Governor's Office], there was continuous gunfire.

Thousands of soldiers of the Chinese American garrison lined up at the port outside the city. The neat blue-green uniforms, the sharp rifle bayonets and the dozens of hexagonal cannons lined up in a row all told people that this was a well-equipped and well-trained army.

The war in America has been going on for a long time. The Spanish have been defeated in battle after battle, and the two sides have now sat down at the same negotiating table. However, how to negotiate and how much the Spanish have to spit out have not yet been concluded.

The negotiations have lasted for more than a month.

The garrison felt that it was necessary to put new pressure on the Spanish.

However, since the spring of this year, the garrison troops, with the cooperation of the American fleet, have been fighting in the Pacific coast of South America for more than half a year, and have a large number of Indian "vassal troops" on hand. The Mapuche people in Chile are quite famous. Now they have clamored to learn from the Uruguayans to establish a country in central and southern Chile and southwestern Argentina.

At the same time, hundreds of thousands of Indians in the Pacific coast of South America "boarded" the garrison troops' ships. They were either transported back to North America by the garrison troops, or formed a team to resist the Spaniards in South America.

Now there are no less than 30 battalions of "vassal troops" affiliated with the garrison troops. Although many battalions have only 200 to 300 people, the total number of troops is nearly 10,000.

In many raids along the Pacific, the main force is these vassal troops.

The garrison troops, whether vassal troops, dispatched troops, or militia, only need to support them. The latter is more likely to send some artillerymen who are about to become god gunners to suppress the vassal troops with firepower, and the rest of the Chinese basically have nothing to do.

After such a long battle, although the organizational foundation of the vassal army is based on battalions, there are already three higher-level organizational regiments above the battalions. The largest one is the Western Peru Regiment currently led by Amaru, which has four battalions and a total of 1,500 people; the second is the Eastern Peru Regiment composed of Aymara Indians led by Juan from Eastern Peru [Bolivia], which has three battalions and more than 1,000 troops; the last is the Northwest Regiment composed of Chukya Indians led by Borja from Ecuador, which also has three battalions, but the troops are less than 900.

The last one with the most appeal here is Amaru, who calls himself "Tupac Amaru III", inherits his father's will and tries to rebuild an independent Peruvian country.

Chen Han certainly does not allow an independent Peru to appear, but are they still allies now? This time Chen Han can't swallow Peru. So Amaru is still on the same front.

Amaru's father, Condorcanqui, was a descendant of the last Inca king Tupac Amaru I. He was the chief of the three tribes of Pampalca, Tungasuca and Sulimana. He launched a massive uprising in Peru 18 years ago, and the total strength of the rebels once exceeded 50,000. However, the Spanish colonial authorities took advantage of the conflicts between Indian tribes and incited some local Indian chiefs to lead their tribes to cooperate with the city defense forces to fight against the rebels, winning themselves precious time to mobilize heavy troops. In the end, Condorcanqui's rebels fell apart in the fierce counterattack of the Spanish colonial army, and Condorcanqui himself was betrayed by a traitor and was killed immediately.

After Condorcanqui's death, his younger brother, Amaru's uncle Diego, continued to lead the rebels in the name of Tupac Amaru II and received responses from Indian uprisings in La Paz, Oruro (now northern Peru), but ultimately failed.

Although Condorcanqui and Diego died, Amaru survived, and the Amaru brand became brighter. "Tupac Amaru" has become a very appealing name among the Indian tribes in Peru. Now Amaru has climbed up to the garrison and used the name of Tupac Amaru III, winning the support of many Indian tribes in the Spanish Viceroyalty of Peru, especially in western Peru.

Of course, Amaru has been hiding his identity for more than ten years. Without his father's foundation in the past - the chief of three tribes, Amaru's appeal is very weak. And his "brilliance" has actually made him a thorn in the eyes of the Chinese without knowing it.

What is China's repeated wars in the Americas for?

It is not to be Lei Feng and seek the freedom and independence of the Indian people. It is to seize these lands and expand the territory for the Chinese and their descendants.

In a sense, Amaru, a vassal army leader with a strong "freedom" spirit, is also Chen Han's enemy.

However, in this war, no matter how big Chen Han's mouth is, he can't bite Peru. So Amaru is still very valuable.

Now Chen Han is planning to let Amaru lead his men back to Peru. Maybe he can really take advantage of the opportunity when the Spaniards are seriously injured to realize his wish.

The three captains of the vassal army are all seeds of the future. This time, the garrison army went south to the central part of Chile, and the army accompanying them did not have the three regiments. These battalion-level vassal armies were the real vassal armies. Many "little Amaru" had died "naturally" in the previous battles.

The Port of Valparaiso is a Spanish military stronghold in central Chile and the sea gateway to Santiago, the capital of Peru. However, the "history" of this military stronghold is very short, because it was born after the First Central American War.

Before, it was just a small port with very few houses and churches. At the same time, the port was only open to Spanish and its colonial ships.

But during the First Central American War, China passed through here and the raiding troops drove straight into Santiago, which can be said to have seriously shaken the prestige of the Spanish in the local area.

Now, the task of the garrison is no longer a simple attack on Santiago, but to truly occupy Santiago and the northern half of Chile, especially the Tarapaca region. The saltpeter there is too important for China's military construction in the Americas.

This is not difficult.

In this era, the location of the Chilean region is really remote, and the west coast of America is not a place with developed civilization. Although the guano and saltpeter here are of great interest to the whole world, no matter how good the things are, they are useless if you can't transport them out.

The Spanish did not pay much attention to the Tarapaca Desert, as their territory was too large and there were too many places to plunder. But the Chinese paid much attention to it.

Guano, as a high-quality organic fertilizer, is of great help to the development of agriculture; while the latter is an important raw material for the manufacture of gunpowder in arsenals, and has extremely high strategic value.

At the same time, Spain no longer has a naval fleet on the Pacific coast of South America, and the transportation links between Chile and Peru can be said to have been essentially interrupted. Because few people can cross the Andes Mountains without a pass, and no one can cross the world's driest desert in northern Chile, Chile is now like a small island, cut off from the vast South American continent, and has become a delicious meal for the Chinese.

Now that China has occupied half of Chile, it is not only to put pressure on the Spanish at the negotiating table, but also to create a fait accompli.

Who made the Spanish act so red-hearted? They actually transferred most of the Chilean army to Peru by ship early. After China swallowed up the entire Mexico and the Isthmus of Central America, when looking at the map of South America, the eyes of the generals and soldiers turned to Peru.

This territory has been regarded as the same as the "home" territory by Chen Han's American fleet in the past two or three years.

In the past, the American fleet has brought back ship after ship of saltpeter, grain, meat, copper and gold and silver from Peru, almost without any hindrance.

During the colonial rule, Chile's economy was mainly based on agriculture, producing wheat and corn, and animal husbandry also occupied an important position. The army swept the entire central and northern Chile, leaving the southern region for the Mapuche. Let them gather their spirits to challenge the Spaniards in Argentina.

While Chen Han vigorously supported the Mapuche with weapons, he also constantly harassed the coastal areas of central and southern Chile, constantly destroying the order of Spanish colonial rule. Created a good opportunity for the Mapuche.

After roughly clearing the organized Spanish military forces in this area, the Mapuche team quickly took over the place. They implemented a harsh policy of persecuting white settlers here, and even mixed-race people were hit by them. And a large number of Mapuche people who "sang for emancipation" had grievances and revenges, and the Spanish descendants who settled in the local area were directly caught in a catastrophe. The local social order was naturally in chaos, and the Spanish colonial order had almost completely collapsed.

These are things that Chen Han doesn't need to care about.

Even if the garrison saved those Spaniards, they would not be truly grateful to these people, because it was the garrison that pushed them into the abyss. Then let them experience the anger of the Indians.

To be honest, in Peru, Ecuador, and Colombia, the local native whites or European immigrants hate the vassal army more than the garrison army. China's regular army is still relatively "civilized", but the vassal army is like locusts, gnawing everything.

Especially the vassal army teams backed by several Chinese, most of those Chinese are vassal troops or militia.

Those people not only robbed things, but also killed and set fires, and even raped women, taking the suffering of white people as their greatest pleasure.

But no one is a fool, and everyone knows who is behind these Indians.

The hatred of the native whites and European immigrants is definitely not the difference between a small book and a puppet army, but a tiger and a lion.

Of course, one of the main reasons why the upper echelons of the garrison army acquiesced to the vassal army's actions is that this can maximize the exploitation of the Spanish colonial achievements in America for more than 200 years.
