The father of the AK-47 dies

Viktor Chulkov, spokesman for the President of the Russian Republic of Udmurtia, confirmed on the 23rd that Mikhail Kalashnikov, the inventor of the world-famous AK-47 assault rifle, died of illness on the 23rd at the age of 94.

Chulkov told the media that Kalashnikov died in Izhevsk, Udmurt Republic, on the 23rd due to a long-term serious illness.

Kalashnikov was hospitalized for two weeks in May this year and was transferred to a Moscow hospital in June to have a pacemaker implanted. On November 17, Kalashnikov was admitted to a hospital in Izhevsk.

In the intensive care unit, the condition was stable at the time.

Kalashnikov was born in 1919 and completed the design of the AK-47 assault rifle in 1947. The AK-47 is recognized as the most widely used and most produced assault rifle in the world, and it is estimated that more than 100 million units have been produced.
