Dragon's Origin

#66 - The Terror of the Thousand Jedi 1

The Earth-Splitting Bear is named so because of the immense destructive power it unleashes when enraged. This is its innate ability; a furious slap can cause the earth to crack and mountains to crumble within a hundred-zhang radius, resembling an earthquake.

The fact that this is a jungle with well-developed tree root systems, having withstood numerous Earth-Splitting Bear rampages, has prevented the trees from falling. Had this been a city, it would have been reduced to ruins.

Nevertheless, among the trackers scattering in all directions, those who were too slow to escape were directly hit. This wasn't merely due to the ground shaking and instability, but because they were attacked by the Earth-Splitting Bear's strike.

This strike, known as the 'Earth-Splitting Strike' by knowledgeable experts, is the origin of its name. The attack contains a powerful spiritual energy that travels along the ground. Within the attack range, those with lower cultivation levels would be directly stunned.

Even if not directly stunned, the intense vibrations and spiritual energy attack would affect the balance of the attacked creatures, causing them to stumble and struggle to stand upright.

Tang Ao and his group escaped quickly, but at least a dozen members from various families weren't fast enough to get out of the attack range and were struck in place by the Earth-Splitting Bear's Earth-Splitting Strike.

Aware of the danger, these people discovered that they couldn't effectively control their limbs when they tried to run. At most, they could only run two steps before falling to the ground, too dizzy to get up.

Then, this group of miserable wretches could only watch helplessly as the Earth-Splitting Bear swiftly approached them and ferociously slammed down upon them. The last sounds they could utter were terrified screams.

Tang Ao and the others who had already escaped certainly heard the screams of their companions who were left behind, but at that moment, their only thought was to run as far as possible. The power of a six-star Earth-Splitting Bear was far beyond what they, as fifth-level masters, could handle. Even if everyone present combined their strength, it wouldn't be enough.

Don't underestimate the fact that people can find seven-star or even eight-star Yuan Souls through Soul Refiners, but Yuan Souls are only formed after these powerful demonic beasts die. Yuan Souls don't stay in their original habitats; they drift randomly, allowing Soul Refiners to capture them.

Yuan Souls are easy to deal with because they have no attack abilities. But a living six-star Earth-Splitting Bear, at the very least, has a cultivation level of the middle stage of the sixth level, which is impossible for dozens of fifth-level masters to kill. Forget killing it; being able to ensure their own survival is already extremely fortunate.

They hadn't even gone far into the Thousand Severance Grounds, barely thirty miles at most, and a six-star Earth-Splitting Bear had already appeared. No wonder nine and a half out of ten predecessors who entered the Thousand Severance Grounds never returned. Encountering such a powerful demonic beast, those below the sixth-level of cultivation really had a slim chance of survival.

Wang Sheng hadn't actually run far, and the Earth-Splitting Bear's Earth-Splitting Strike had even affected him. However, Wang Sheng was well aware of his limitations. From the moment the Earth-Splitting Bear's toilet was reached, Wang Sheng was lying on the ground.

The Earth-Splitting Strike did make Wang Sheng dizzy for a long time, but for Wang Sheng, who wasn't moving, running, or standing, the impact wasn't significant. For Wang Sheng, it was just a period of discomfort that could be easily endured by lying still.

The six-star Earth-Splitting Bear was very sensitive and had noticed Wang Sheng the moment he sat down there. It was just that it was full and didn't want to move. Even now, the Earth-Splitting Bear could still detect Wang Sheng's hiding place, which was also the only living person still within its attack range.

However, Wang Sheng was lying in a clever spot: the Earth-Splitting Bear's toilet. Wang Sheng was almost covered in the Earth-Splitting Bear's excrement. Instinctively, the Earth-Splitting Bear would reject that area.

Wang Sheng had been very cunning earlier. He shot an arrow and then fled, but the direction of that arrow was in line with the Qiu family's expert who was rushing over. When Wang Sheng shamelessly dove into the Earth-Splitting Bear's toilet, that arrow naturally seemed to have been shot by that junior from the Qiu family.

The Earth-Splitting Bear, having eaten its fill, been enraged, and then crushed so many annoying little ants, was no longer so angry. Therefore, it decided to ignore the little guy who had never provoked it, was weak, posed no threat, smelled terrible, and was hiding in the toilet.

After swallowing a food that had just been softened, the Earth-Splitting Bear's belly became even fuller. It decided to go back to sleep! Without even looking at Wang Sheng's direction, the Earth-Splitting Bear wiggled its massive body, comfortably scratched an itch against a large tree, and then returned to its comfortable nest to continue napping.

As for the little guy lying in its dung, it would just let him be. Killing him would only dirty its claws. Eat him? Don't even think about it!

For Wang Sheng, lying in a demonic beast's dung was nothing! He had experienced it more than once during training on Earth. Once, during a mission, Wang Sheng stayed in a cesspool for a full day and night, evading several waves of search dogs and guards, and then shot the mission target. This really didn't cause him any psychological burden at all.

By the time Wang Sheng recovered from his dizziness, the Earth-Splitting Bear had already begun to snore. Wang Sheng's cultivation level was low, and it took him a full ten minutes to fully recover from the Earth-Splitting Bear's strike.

But during this time, not a single one of the trackers dared to rush over. The Earth-Splitting Bear's roar just now was too terrifying, to the point that it was still questionable whether those people had even gathered together.

Wang Sheng carefully retreated from the Earth-Splitting Bear's toilet from another direction and then accelerated away. When he reached a slightly safer spot, he found a stream to wash himself clean.

Using the compass on his watch to determine the direction, Wang Sheng continued to head deeper into the Thousand Severance Grounds. Although those tracking experts had been startled by the Earth-Splitting Bear, they would never give up so easily. The outside was definitely surrounded and intercepted from all directions. The safest option now was to head deeper into the Thousand Severance Grounds.

With the warning of the combat awareness little man, Wang Sheng could deal with demonic beasts in the Thousand Severance Grounds much easier than dealing with thousands of enemies outside.

Not long after, Wang Sheng discovered that those guys behind him had stubbornly followed again.

This time, Tang Ao and his group had learned a lesson from the Earth-Splitting Bear and acted even more cautiously. After escaping, they found that the Earth-Splitting Bear hadn't chased after them, and they slowly gathered together again. After carefully bypassing the Earth-Splitting Bear's territory, it didn't take them long to discover the traces left by Wang Sheng and carefully chased after him again.

They had to chase. Neither the family's nor their personal reputation allowed them to give up when Wang Sheng, an insignificant nobody, could easily enter the deeper parts of the Thousand Severance Grounds. If they failed, the punishment they faced would be no easier than dying under the Earth-Splitting Bear's paws.
