#89 - Wolf's Lair (Part 2)
Chapter 74: Wolf Den (Part 2)
The wolf den was dark, but that wasn't a problem for Wang Sheng. His individual combat terminal had a light, which he turned on directly.
It was a large tree hollow, otherwise such a large wolf wouldn't have been able to live in it. The floor of the tree hollow was a soft dirt pit, just right for the lone wolf to lie down comfortably.
The space was very tidy. The tree hollow extended very high, seemingly straight to the top of the tree. However, it was unknown how many years it had been since a creature had climbed from here to the top of the tree, so it was covered with moss and there were no traces.
The inside was relatively clean. Apart from the unavoidable wolf stench, it looked empty. However, Wang Sheng still discovered something inside.
This tree hollow was obviously not made by the lone wolf itself. Someone must have worked on it before, otherwise it wouldn't be so tidy. Especially the hole leading to the top of the tree, which had very clear layers. As for what was on top, he could see it as long as he climbed up.
Without saying a word, Wang Sheng propped himself against both sides of the tree hollow with his hands and feet, suspending his body in the air. Then, using his hands and feet together, he quickly climbed up six or seven meters and saw a platform.
Having reached here, Wang Sheng was completely sure that this must have been carved out artificially. The platform was very flat and there were some rotten pieces of wood placed neatly. Animals and demon beasts could never do something like this.
Judging from the length of these pieces of wood, they should be able to seal the opening that Wang Sheng had climbed up through. Just like Wang Sheng's treehouse, this was the door to a tree hollow house.
There was nothing worth Wang Sheng's attention on this level. Wang Sheng continued to climb up. A few meters further up, Wang Sheng saw a storage room. The original owner of the tree hollow had used the natural decaying parts of the tree to make several compartments and placed some things in them. But these things had completely rotted and he couldn't tell what they were.
Continuing another five or six meters, Wang Sheng saw a bed and a complete skeleton. The skeleton was sitting on the bed, which was actually just a bare wooden board, directly carved from the tree, so it hadn't rotted. There were no bedding or quilts on it, only enough for someone to sit on.
The clothes on the skeleton had long been eroded by time, leaving no trace. The skeleton itself looked as white as jade, as if it hadn't been eroded at all.
Wang Sheng clearly remembered that the corpses of demon beasts above a certain realm would not rot, and it should be the same for cultivators. But the flesh on this person had disappeared completely, which was very strange. But on second thought, it wasn't surprising. There were so many insects here, and the human corpse was probably a great supplement for them.
To the right of the skeleton was a dagger. To the left was a rusty iron bar that looked like a long sword.
After experiencing an unknown number of years, the wood and other things had rotted into ashes, and even the long sword had turned into rusty iron, but the dagger was still as bright as new.
Without even asking, this must be an excellent weapon. The blade looked extremely sharp. Not only had it not been eroded by time, but it had become even more heavy and imposing due to the polishing of time.
Good stuff, I'll take it first. Wang Sheng also picked up the rusty sword and took a look, but it broke into two pieces as soon as he picked it up, having already rusted to the point of decay.
The skeleton had a jade pendant hanging around its neck, with characters on it in the seal script. It looked like the emblem of an ancient family, but Wang Sheng couldn't recognize it, so he also put it away.
Opposite the bed was a small platform, also naturally carved according to the wooden structure of the tree hollow itself, and now it was uneven. On it was a piece of tanned animal skin, with a simple map drawn on it. Wang Sheng didn't have time to think about it carefully at this time, so he put it away.
There was basically nothing else on this level. Wang Sheng climbed up again and there was another level, which was also used to place a wooden cover. As long as it was covered, the tree hollow would be sealed up and down, equivalent to being self-contained. It should have been the residence of the skeleton at that time. Now the wooden cover had also decayed beyond recognition.
Climbing out was a fork at the top of the tree trunk. Wang Sheng checked several times and found nothing, then slid back down along the tree hollow.
The lone wolf's corpse was still very fresh. This was Wang Sheng's prey and couldn't be easily discarded. Wang Sheng first used the dagger he had just found to try to peel open the skin along the place where the Tiger Tooth Army Knife had cut it, but unfortunately, although the dagger was bright, it was not sharp enough to face the lone wolf's tough fur and could not cut it at all.
At this moment, Wang Sheng knew that this dagger was not as good as his Tiger Tooth Army Knife. But suddenly, a thought flashed through his mind, and he suddenly realized, could it be that the lack of lethality was because he had not infused spiritual energy into the dagger?
As soon as he thought of it, he did it. Wang Sheng took the dagger and fully outputted spiritual energy. When he pulled it down again along the opening cut by the Tiger Tooth Army Knife, the originally extremely tough fur was easily cut open.
Seeing this, Wang Sheng couldn't help but want to slap himself. He only knew to use spiritual energy to amplify his fist and foot attacks. Everyone else uses weapons, how could he forget this? Damn it.
The place where the lone wolf was pierced by Wang Sheng's military knife was in the throat, and Wang Sheng was lucky at the time, it happened to be a knife stabbed vertically into the center of the lone wolf's throat. This also led to Wang Sheng peeling off the lone wolf's skin and seeing that it was a complete piece, without any scars anywhere else.
Good stuff! Wang Sheng had killed many poachers on Earth and could still judge the value of fur. The complete fur of a sixth-level demon wolf is worth at least a hundred times that of the fourth-level Thousand Illusory Poisonous Python's scales. This piece of skin alone is enough for Wang Sheng's large expenses in Worry-Free City.

The wolf skin was rolled up and put into the Naring. Then there was the wolf meat. Wang Sheng had an extra, smaller Naring, which could store a lot more things. He didn't want the internal organs, so he cut off some of the best lean meat from the wolf legs and back to take away. There was no place to put the rest, so he cut it open first and sent it to the storage room in the tree hollow.
Wang Sheng pried off all the wolf teeth. There were twelve that were bigger than Wang Sheng's tiger teeth military knife, and the remaining smaller ones, but Wang Sheng still treasured them and put them away.
Then, Wang Sheng followed the original owner of the tree hollow and cut down some wood to make two covers, one on top and one on the bottom. Blocking both ends, the tree hollow became an independent space, safe and comfortable. This was a more suitable foothold than the treehouse, and even safer.
After finishing these, Wang Sheng rested for a while and found a place outside to start a fire, slowly grilling some wolf meat, intending to try whether the meat of this sixth-level demon beast was more nourishing than that of the fourth-level.
