Eagle of the Valley of Ice and Fire

Chapter 314: Confrontation at the Paradise Tower

The red soil stretched behind the Tower of Joy, supporting its heavy back, watching the sun move westward.

Beric Dondarrion placed his long sword on the mound and wiped the blood off the sword with a black cloth.

The purple lightning flag of Blackhaven City swept in the wind, and dozens of lightning bolts stood naked in front of the Tower of Joy, like a group of sentinel poplars on the border. Dondarrion's squires and knights looked at the Dornishmen with firm eyes and calm expressions.

Several heads of Dornish soldiers fell to the ground, and the polished copper pieces, shining silver or red soft gold decorated on the armor fell to the ground, but none of the soldiers behind Earl Dondarrion lowered their heads to pick them up.

The Dornish soldiers held long spears and round shields, and the soldiers close to Prince Oberyn held scimitars and short spears on their waists, looking at the knights of Blackhaven City vigilantly.

"Dondarrion, the war is over." Oberyn looked at Beric Dondarrion and his soldiers from Blackhaven who suddenly attacked. They were probably knights from the Stormlands, and most of them were even regulars at the tournament.

Oberyn knew that his soldiers were no match for him, so he held his spear lightly and said jokingly, "Don't forget, you have already stepped half a foot into the Prince's Pass. You know, the nearest Dorne army is probably a thousand people."

Beric's response was simple and effective, "And the Knight of the Stormlands who can take your life is right in front of you." His black eyes were bright, his face was calm, and he didn't stop wiping his sword.

"We don't have to be enemies," Oberyn said, his hand was already holding the spear tightly, and his personal soldiers were sweating nervously, with sweat all over the back of their heads, "I came here to receive the prisoner, the Mountain, who the Iron Throne promised to send. The king promised to let me deal with this person."

The prince was so frivolous, but in his heart he had cursed himself for coming to pick up the Mountain in person ten thousand times.

Beric Dondarrion stopped and looked at Oberyn with some suspicion.

Seeing the opportunity, Oberyn said, "The Marchers and Dorne have reached a settlement, and Sunspear will soon bend the knee to the Iron Throne. We are all vassals of King Joffrey."

Beric loosened his wrist, and the long sword was loose in his hand, hanging on the stone pier. Oberyn thought he had persuaded the stubborn Earl Dondarrion, but Beric raised his lips slightly.

"How else would I know you were here, Oberyn Martell." Beric Dondarrion threw the black cloth casually, and the tip of his sword was against the ground.

"Damn it!" Oberyn cursed softly, and swung his lance in a circle, with the shaft attached to his arm and the tip of the lance pointed at the sand.

Beric Dondarrion quickly drew his sword, and the Knights of Blackhaven behind him drew their swords one after another, ready to meet the enemy.

"Hold the formation!" The Dornish soldiers raised their round shields, and their lances did not shake at all.

"You attacked Nightsong without any chivalry," Beric Dondarrion said loudly, "The Dornish light cavalry even reached Black Harbor, went around the back of the Frontier Army, attacked the supply line, and killed the people in my jurisdiction. I thought you were a gentleman, Oberyn Martell, but you bullied the weak and killed the hardworking farmers in Black Harbor."

Oberyn narrowed his eyes. He had heard that Earl Beric Dondarrion was a famous knight in the Stormlands and always valued his honor. He had discussed these famous Stormlands knights with his brother Prince Doran before. He didn't admire many of them, but he did include the one in front of him. Lightning King? Oberyn looked at the lightning flag of Black Harbor and saw Beric Dondarrion's father-like and fair face, and then quickly thought of this nickname.

"I did give this order, but you know that the battlefield has always been cruel and ruthless. You border people often go deep into the Prince's Pass to attack Dorne caravans!" Oberyn criticized his pedantry and shouted.

Beric Dondarrion still kept a sarcastic smile on his lips, but his tone was very fierce, as if he was angry and laughed: "It seems that you don't understand the common language of Westeros. You are not a caravan, but mercenaries who come to rob!"

Oberyn was unmoved, but put down his spear, stood beside him, and looked into the distance.

Beric frowned and turned his head to look.

A beacon of smoke went straight up, like a black sword piercing the clouds and the red hills of Dorne, shedding the blood of the setting sun.

"Woo! ~"

The horn sounded, and a Dorne light cavalry ran towards here.

A team stood on the hillside, the prisoner car moved slowly forward, and the cavalry escorted on both sides.

On one side was the golden banner of Baratheon's crown and stag, and on the other side was the sky-blue banner of Arryn's crescent and falcon.

"Prince!" Seeing the scene in front of him, the Dornish light cavalry looked predictably flustered.

"Has Clegane arrived?" Oberyn asked.

Seeing the light cavalry nodded, he looked at Beric Dondarrion who was ready for battle, "Is there still a need to fight?"

"The king I am loyal to is King Robert," Beric Dondarrion looked at the more than ten cavalrymen in the distance, and compared the strength of both sides in his mind, "No one will pass on the news if no one is left alive."

Oberyn smiled lightly, he knew how to deal with such a stubborn person.

He spread his hands, slightly lowered his frivolous attitude, and became sincere: "Gods above, what's wrong with the royal soldiers transporting prisoners? Do they have anything to do with this conflict? Most of the people coming from King's Landing have relatives and children in the city. Do these civilians have anything to do with the conflict between you and me?"

"Don't change the subject, Oberyn!"

Oberyn unexpectedly focused and his face became serious.

Beric Dondarrion didn't know what this change meant, but just held the sword tightly.

"You can kill me and take my head," Oberyn said, without any joking in his words, "but," he pointed his spear at the prison car in the distance, where a tall prisoner with an ugly monster face sat Inside, there were cages made of iron all around him. "The Mountain!" Oberyn seemed to grit his teeth, speaking every word as if he was about to spit out a broken tooth, "He killed my sister, he raped me." He killed Ilya and threw her child to death! I must judge him and kill him with my own hands before I die in front of a noble knight!"

Oberyn's face turned red, he gritted his teeth, and his eyes seemed to pop out.

Beric Dondarrion frowned, pursed his lips, and leaned on his sword again and again, "I've heard of it."

"I will kill him, kill him with my own hands," Oberyn murmured.

Magic Mountain's prison van was getting closer and closer, and Berry's frown relaxed and then tightened.

"Okay," he compromised, "I agree to your request to try him. After his death, you and I will have a duel to bring this matter to a conclusion."

Oberyn sighed and expressed gratitude, "I'm afraid I don't have the power to judge. Only my brother, Prince Doran, has this power. He is about to become the Minister of Justice of the Royal Council."

Beric Dondarrion held his sword and watched the caravan approaching in the distance, "Here, at this moment, I want you to swear an oath."

"I swear." Oberyn said without hesitation.

"After you have sworn to judge the Mountain, come here to fight me, seven against seven, judgment of seven." Beric Dondarrion said.

Oberyn looked at Beric Dondarrion, who had firm eyes and held a gun behind his back, "I swear, in the name of the gods in heaven."

"The gods are watching, Oberyn." Beric Dondarrion tightened his reins, mounted his horse, and prepared to leave.

"Don't be surprised, Beric Dondarrion," Oberyn smiled. "Maybe we will fight side by side for a while."

"No way," Berry said coldly.

"Dorn will help the Stormlands nobles regain Storm's End," Oberyn said with a smile, "This is a vote for the Iron Throne."
