Eagle of the Valley of Ice and Fire

Chapter 88 Trust and Choice

The soldiers from the King's Landing held their spears listlessly, looking at the closed gate of the Red Castle from a distance. The rusty luster made all arrows and crossbows daunt.

Sir Arys Oakheart stood behind Sansa. He was wearing a white cloak made of light wool, and a golden scarf with the oak emblem of the Oakheart family around his neck. He had light brown hair and a very handsome face. Sansa looked at the ferocious soldiers of the capital garrison and the King's Landing soldiers around her, and took the first step fearfully.

"It's okay, my lady," said Sir Arys, with a very gentle tone, much better than Sir Meryn Trant, "I am the Kingsguard, and I will protect you."

Sansa nodded timidly. She looked at Arys's slightly handsome face in front of the people around her and chose to believe.

Arys picked up the longbow, pulled the bowstring, and shot the arrow into the Red Castle.

"King Robert was killed by a wild boar, how could it be Lord Eddard Stark?" Barristan Selmy stood in front of King Joffrey and Queen Cersei, puzzled.

"No one knows my husband better than me, Ser Barristan." Cersei looked at the white knight in front of her and said in a serious tone.

"I don't deny this, Queen, but this is a reasonable doubt, because this accusation," Barristan paused, "with all due respect, there is no basis for it."

"My father Robert held an invincible hammer in the world, how could he be killed by a wild boar? I also want to ask you, where were you when my father was killed?" Joffrey stood up and almost roared at Barristan.

Barristan lowered his head and knelt on one knee on the ground, his white robe covering the ground and stained with black ash.

"This is my dereliction of duty, King Joffrey." The old voice of the white knight expressed shame and helplessness.

"This is your fault!" Joffrey leaned forward, as if bowing, his face flushed, and this roar interrupted Cersei's preparation to speak.

Barristan pursed his lips, slowly stood up, and stepped aside silently.

"I'm sorry, Ser Barristan," Cersei was so happy to see Barristan obey Joffrey's majesty that she couldn't hide her smile. She said to Barristan hypocritically, "My husband passed away unfortunately. He died at the hands of Eddard Stark, who intended to destroy the foundation of his kingdom. Prince Joffrey needs your service."

Barristan took a deep breath, "Serving the king is the duty of the Kingsguard, but," he looked at Cersei, "as a king, you shouldn't use a little girl to achieve your goals."

Cersei knew he was referring to Sansa. Before she spoke, Joffrey asked first, "Sansa? Come on, for the traitors of the kingdom, for the Starks, any means are bright."

Joffrey looked at the silent High Septon and raised his eyebrows, "Am I right, the spokesperson of the Seven Gods?"

"The king's words are from the heart, and the Seven Gods resonate with the world. How right it is." The High Septon bowed and said.

Joffrey snorted coldly, "Fawning gods."

Everyone in the field fell into an awkward silence, including Cersei herself.

Edard uncovered the letter outside the Red Keep, which was undoubtedly written by Sansa. The "lady" raised her front paws high, put on Eddard's cloth armor, sniffed the letter, and barked softly.

Jory ran over in small steps, "Master, Miss Sansa is outside the Red Keep, and there are all crossbowmen behind her."

"Damn it!" Eddard cursed, "They are so mean that they use little girls as shields." His uneasiness became more and more obvious. This was really what Varys said. Cersei used Sansa as a threat to force him to admit those unfounded charges.

"Father!" Sansa's voice came from far away, and the sound became more and more harsh.

Edard looked at the gate of the Red Keep, and the long sword in his hand trembled slightly.

Jory drew out his sword suddenly, "Master! The people of the North cannot be insulted like this, let's go out and snatch the lady back!"

The "lady" bared her teeth, and a low whimper came out in her throat, which was a signal of the upcoming hunt.

"Please believe me, Lord Stark."

The voice of the octopus spider sounded in his ears, as if he was still in the dark corridor of the Red Castle at this time. Eddard remembered that Varys' analysis of him was not unreasonable.

"Father!" Sansa's voice sounded again, and the sound of arrows even exploded in Eddard's ears.

"Sansa!" Eddard shouted anxiously, and he ran to the parapet of the Red Castle.

Jory and a group of Winterfell guards hurriedly followed behind.

Sansa, wearing a blue dress, curled up on the street outside the Red Castle, behind her was a golden robe with a spear on top, and an executioner holding a crossbow.

"Sansa!" Eddard shouted. In just a moment, crossbows were aimed at Eddard. The dazzling sunlight shining on the arrows reflected in Jory's eyes.

"My Lord!" Jory pulled Eddard away to avoid the threat of crossbows.

"Lord Eddard Stark!" Ser Arys shouted under the Red Keep. "This is the king's order. I have to obey." His tone seemed to contain resentment, resentment towards the king.

"If you don't want to shed blood and sacrifice, and don't want your daughter to be humiliated, please open the gate of the Red Keep and confess your guilt and surrender." Ser Arys said, swallowing his throat.

Ser Arys took off his iron gloves, "I'm sorry, my lady."

Sansa opened her beautiful eyes. Queen Cersei, King Joffrey, her king did not tell her about this situation. "Sir, I."

A slap was slapped hard on Sansa's face. Half of Sansa's face was red and swollen, and she almost forgot to breathe.

Meryn Trant stood behind Arys, "I'm afraid this is not enough. The king will be dissatisfied when he sees it."

Ser Arys looked at his sworn brother with sharp eyes, intending to kill.

"Sorry, my lady." Arys' voice was very soft, but at this time it was like the low moan of the devil in the black deep hole of hell. Sansa shook her head with tears in her eyes, "No, sir."

"Snap!" Another slap.

Ed looked at Sansa painfully. Through the gap in the wall, Sansa looked at the tower, looking for her figure.

"Father!" Sansa shouted again, helpless, hopeless, and nowhere to find.

I am the Duke of Winterfell, the Warden of the North, the Hand of King Robert

I am the Duke of Winterfell, the Warden of the North, the Hand of King Robert, and the Prime Minister.

I am

I am also Sansa's father, the Wolf of the Stark family.

Hot tears flowed from Ed's eyes. He bit his lip and put one hand on Jory's shoulder.

"Guard the Red Keep strictly and stay indoors." Eddard said, as if he was gnashing his teeth.

He did not open the gate of the Red Keep.

It was late at night and the Red Keep was silent.

Jory squatted beside Eddard and nodded solemnly.

"Trust your Lordship, I will come back and take you home." Eddard said.

"Don't worry, sir, we will defend the Red Keep." Jory said.

Eddard nodded, he tidied up his chain mail and the cloth armor lining, and Jory handed the giant sword "Ice" to Eddard.

Eddard paused for a few moments, he nodded, picked up "Ice"

The corridor was deep, and Varys stood in the dark.

"Thank you for your contribution to the kingdom, Lord Eddard Stark," Varys said, "Please follow me."

The stench filled the corridor, and Eddard frowned.

"I'm sorry to put you in this predicament, Lord Eddard Stark, but people always have to make choices." Varys said with a smile.

Eddard shook his head, "I hope you can take me out of King's Landing. I want to find Stannis and Artis Arryn, and force King's Landing to release Sansa and my guards on the condition of peace."

Varys seemed very excited, "There is nothing better than this, Lord Eddard."

The heavy wooden board was pushed open by Varys, and the stars in the sky were now framed. Eddard went out, and the wall of the Red Castle was on his left. He thought that if Varys and Cersei led the troops into the Red Castle from here, then his servants would be in greater danger.

He looked at the eunuch whom he had previously despised, swallowed his throat, and said, "It seems that I can trust you, Varys."

"Spiders can never be fully trusted, which is my lifelong regret, but," Varys did not look back, "it is my honor to have the trust of Lord Eddard."

Eddard stood up and walked forward. He suddenly felt dizzy and heavy from behind. He staggered and the ground appeared in front of him. He fell to the ground.

"Next, just trust me completely. I will protect you, Duke Eddard." Varys looked at Eddard with a smile and folded his hands.
