Emperor's Reckoning
1090 The Four Gathers
Lyon's brow furrowed further, struck by the strange encounter with the beggar. His curiosity was piqued, but he knew now wasn't the time to dwell on it. Cecile's hand on his shoulder drew him back to the present situation.
"Lyon, we need to find a lodging first," said Cecile after sensing unrest inside her husband.
"You're right," Lyon replied, refocusing his attention. "We should secure lodging before it's all taken."
As they waded through the bustling crowd, Kesya's keen ears picked up on rumors about the young masters and their remarkable talents. The names of the prodigious martial artists echoed in the air. The chatter only served to heighten their anticipation for the gathering.
"We need to tread carefully," Selena advised, her eyes scanning the surroundings. "The crowd is diverse, and so are the motivations of those present."
Lyon raised brows and stopped before the inn. There was an important question that he forgot to ask. He put his hands on his waist as he courted their attention. "Do we have any money to spend?"
Kesya, with a proud grin, raised her hand, showcasing a small bag of tokens she had carefully kept. However, amidst their discussion, a commotion erupted nearby.
"My money! It's gone!" the man shouted, frantically patting his pockets and looking around in distress. He hastily accused the beggar they had just encountered, though it seemed a far-fetched accusation.
The accusation raised eyebrows among the onlookers, and murmurs of disbelief rippled through the crowd. Kesya chuckled at the absurdity of it, but it was evident that the situation was getting tense.
"How convenient," said Lyon with a smirk.
"I... I don't feel so good in taking advantage of this, but it's necessary," said Karina with a sigh.
"Don't worry, you'll be fine," said Kesya patting her back, "You will get used to it."
"I certainly hope not," said Karina.
The group huddled in their room, preparing for the events that would unfold. Lyon's mind was preoccupied, thoughts swirling about the bizarre encounter with the beggar. Selena, keenly observant, noticed the furrowed brows and distant gaze on Lyon's face.
"Darling, what's on your mind?" she gently inquired, her concern evident in her eyes.
Lyon looked at his beloved and then glanced around the room at the rest of the group. "It's nothing. Let's stick to the plan."
Cecile took charge, explaining the next steps. "As I was saying, we'll need to wait a day after the young masters attempt to ring the gong. It doesn't matter if they succeed or fail; we simply need an empty atmosphere, a space for you to ignite."
Lyon nodded in agreement. The plan was clear, and he knew they needed to be patient. They were getting closer to the moment they could make their presence known to Maria and begin their search in earnest.
The morning sun cast a warm, golden glow through the window, signaling the start of a new day. But instead of waking up to a peaceful morning, Lyon was greeted by the cacophony of a bustling crowd outside. He groggily rubbed his eyes and glanced around the room, finding Cecile already peering out of the window.
Yawning, Lyon shuffled over to join her. He leaned against the window frame and blinked, still not fully awake. "What's all the commotion about?" he mumbled.
Cecile's eyes sparkled with excitement as she turned to him. "The four young masters have arrived," she said, a smile dancing on her lips. It was clear that this was a significant development in their plan, and Lyon's sleepiness was quickly replaced with curiosity.
Cecile pointed excitedly at the gathering below, describing the young masters one by one.
"The first one," she said, pointing at a muscular man with a fierce countenance, "is Drako Wrymheart, a martial arts prodigy. He's a master of combat and has a sharp mind for strategy."
"Yeah, well, he just made himself known yesterday," said Lyon.
Cecile smiled with a hint of coy. She shifted her finger to a tall, elegant figure with a bow slung across their back. "That's Elara Moonshadow," Cecile continued, "a serene archer with unmatched precision. She's graceful and deadly from a distance."
"An elf, figures," Lyon commented.
"It's their innate," Cecile nodded. Next, her finger landed on a man with lightning patterns etched into his clothing. "Behold Liam Stormrider," she exclaimed. "A master of the thunderclap sword technique. His strikes are as fast and precise as a lightning bolt."
"A human? Full fledge..." Lyon commented.
Lastly, she pointed at a woman with a crown of leaves and flowers, exuding a calm and earthy aura. "And there's Sylva Greenleaf," Cecile said, "a druid, a master of wood magic. She's in tune with nature and possesses remarkable control over the elements."
"A druid huh..." Lyon raised his brows and a not so fond memories resurfaced when they were strolling in a dark cave. "Well... at least this one is not so old and demented."
Drako Wrymheart, with a hint of arrogance, smirks at the others. "Well, it's obvious who's going to ring that gong first. My martial prowess is unmatched."
Liam Stormrider interjects, sharpness in his words, "Skill with a sword might win a duel, Drako, but this is about finesse and precision. Something you might find hard."
Elara Moonshadow, her words laced with haughtiness, adds, "Indeed. My arrow will find its mark effortlessly. Your brute force won't help here, Drako."
Sylva Greenleaf, ever empathetic, chimes in with a warm smile, "Let us all do our best. May our efforts be in harmony with the gong and nature's wisdom."
With their banter filling the air, the young masters made their way towards the gong. Lyon observed from the shadows, his mind focusing on the task at hand. Each of them exuded confidence in their unique way, a reflection of their diverse talents. As the sun climbed higher, the moment of truth neared.
Lyon was suddenly embraced from behind as Selena's lovely voice brought him back to the present. "Darling, wanna watch their attempts?"
Lyon smiled and glance down at her peeking head. "Of course, let's go watch them."
