Empire of Shadows

#105 - Do it now

Mr. Chopper was going to do something foolish, and Lance had a premonition about it.

If he really had the guts to flip the table and quit, he wouldn't have been extorted for hundreds of thousands of dollars without doing anything about it.

He always wanted to avoid being implicated in these matters, then mingle in high society, and then consider taking back what he had lost in the process of climbing.

But he overlooked one point: the federal upper class will always be for federal people, not for outsiders, not for immigrants.

No matter how flowery their words are, just look at how many first and second-generation immigrants are in the Senate and you'll know.

Think about how few immigrants have become federal presidents, and you'll understand.

They always loudly proclaim equality for all, but they are practicing inequality.

This is actually like fishing: if you don't chum the water, how can you lure the fish over?

After the fish are lured over, you, as the fisherman, certainly aren't planning to be friends with the fish or just feed it; what you want is to catch it.

The federal upper class is the same.

The more Mr. Chopper wants to be dignified, the less dignified he will be in the end, but that has nothing to do with Lance.

He had already given the optimal solutions, a violent table flip and a gentle table flip, but Mr. Chopper chose to lie down and daydream about "someday," so let him be.

You can never wake up someone who is pretending to be asleep, even if you stab him until he bleeds.

Looking at the hundreds of thousands of dollars in debts in his hand, some debts were easier to collect, and some were more difficult.

He would sort them out first, and then, in order, put the money into his own pocket.

While he was looking at these documents, Ethan suddenly rushed in, pushing open the office door.

Lance tilted his head, seemingly asking, "Why didn't you knock?"

"Erwin was beaten at the dock, and I heard he's unconscious."

He and Erwin were the closest, and his eyes were red at this time, not because he wanted to cry, but purely because his eyes were red with anger; he just wanted to kill someone!

Lance was stunned for a moment, then got up and walked to the safe, opened it, put the documents in, and took out the pistol inside.

"Call some people, let's go take a look..."

Some people wanted to go when they heard that Erwin had been beaten, and Lance selected some of them.

Everyone drove four cars and arrived at the dock in about ten minutes.

Erwin had already woken up at this time, but he looked terrible, curled up on the side of the road, with a painful expression.

The people around him were surprised to see so many cars coming, but soon, in the afterglow of the setting sun, they saw that it was Lance and his people, and they immediately breathed a sigh of relief.

"Where does it hurt?" Lance walked to his side and checked his condition.

His cheeks were swollen, and there was a wound on his face, which should be a penetrating injury.

He was clutching his stomach, which made Lance's expression a little grave.

"My stomach..."

Lance looked at Ethan, "Carry him into the car, let's go to the hospital."

Then he looked at the people around him, "Who knows what happened, come with us."

Some people were afraid of getting into trouble and took the initiative to step aside, but some people were not afraid of trouble, and several people wanted to come up.

Lance casually pointed at one, "You come with us."

That person showed some smiles on his face, but soon realized that he shouldn't be smiling at this time, and nodded as seriously as possible, getting into the car.

There was a hospital not far from the dock, but it wasn't a well-known large hospital.

Those medical groups knew that the workers on the dock didn't have money and couldn't squeeze any profit out of them.

In Goldport City, the best medical resources were concentrated in the Bay Area, which was full of villas and rich people, and only these rich people were willing to pay countless amounts of money for their health.

After arriving at the hospital, Ethan carried Erwin directly to the emergency room.

The emergency doctor checked very responsibly, with a grave expression.

"Who can take responsibility here?"

A large group of people surrounded him, which made the doctor a little scared, "Send someone who can take responsibility to talk to me."

Lance made them step back some distance, stood next to the doctor, and handed him twenty dollars, "What's the situation with my friend now?"

The doctor didn't know what to do. Lance directly stuffed the money into the pocket on his chest, and the doctor finally reacted, "There's good news and a..."

The twenty dollars put him in a good mood. He planned to play a little joke with Lance about good news and bad news, but looking at Lance's murderous eyes, he gave up.

"Your friend's intestines may have a little problem."

He wanted to say that he hadn't died in more than ten minutes, which meant that the internal injuries were not serious, but considering the appearance of these people, he decided to tell the truth.

"So, he needs surgery?" Lance asked.

The doctor nodded, "We can do it here, but the surgery fee is not cheap. I want to know if your friend has social security."

Lance shook his head. Erwin was still an illegal resident, so how could he have social security?

"About how much will it cost?"

The doctor pursed his lips, "If our own doctor does it, it will be about one thousand to one thousand two hundred dollars. If you want those famous doctors from the big hospitals in the Bay Area to do it, it will cost about four thousand five hundred dollars."

The people behind Lance gasped. The mere one thousand dollar surgery fee had already shocked them speechless.

Not to mention that famous doctors would actually cost four thousand five hundred dollars. So, calculating it this way, the fees for these famous doctors would be three thousand five hundred dollars?

In fact, they weren't very famous doctors. It could only be said that they had a little fame, had skilled surgical techniques, and were willing to come out and earn some money.

Those truly famous surgical doctors didn't lack this little money at all, and wouldn't look for work outside.

Considering the outrageous quality of surgery in this era, Lance told him to make an appointment with the so-called famous doctor.

Then he told Ethan to go back to the company and bring five thousand dollars over.

The doctor almost laughed when he heard this!

Although the big money was earned by the outside doctor, it was still several hundred dollars more profitable than doing it themselves!

"No problem, sir, I'll arrange it immediately."

He didn't ask if this person was an illegal immigrant or anything, as long as there was money to be made.

At this time, Lance finally had time. He looked at the young man who had come with them, with a shocked expression, "What's your name?"

"Allen, Mr. Lance."

"Okay, Allen, tell me what happened?"

The young man roughly told what happened.

When someone heard that the guy named Hammer had directly punched Erwin and then kicked him again, he couldn't help but punch the hospital wall heavily!

The loud bang made the people around look over, but soon moved away under some frightening gazes.

"Good lad, you can go back now." Lance took out a twenty-dollar bill and stuffed it into his pocket, but this guy didn't leave.

"Do you have other things?" Lance asked. He was a little irritable now.

Allen swallowed, "Mr. Lance, I want to join your family."

Lance was stunned for a moment, then smiled and grabbed the back of Allen's neck and squeezed it, "Now you are already my family. Go back and get some sleep, and come to the office to find me tomorrow morning."

Allen's eyes were about to shine with surprise, "Mr. Lance..."

"Call me Lance."

"Lance, I can stay here, I can help you a little, no matter what!"

Lance didn't discourage his enthusiasm and let him stay.

Soon a doctor came over, also with two nurses. Looking at it from this perspective, this four thousand five hundred dollars... was still very expensive!

But fortunately, Lance had recently had a large income, and he could afford it.

The doctor briefly understood the situation and judged it to be the same as the doctor here.

"If it was a ruptured spleen or other internal organs, he wouldn't have been able to make it to the hospital. It's likely that his intestines were twisted."

"Has the operating room been cleaned up?" After receiving a positive answer, and putting the money in his bag, the doctor shook hands with Lance, "I will do my best."

Then he entered the operating room.

The entire operation lasted about forty minutes. The doctor came out with a smile, which relieved everyone.

He took off his mask, "His intestines were twisted several times due to external force. I opened his abdomen, straightened those messed-up intestines, and then put them back. He will wake up soon."

"This situation does not require special care. I have told the doctor here the precautions, and they will follow them."

"He will be able to walk or do some simple things soon, but it may take two or three months to fully recover."

Lance also smiled and shook hands with the doctor again, "Thank you for your assistance. Can you give me a business card?"

"If needed, I can contact you directly."

The doctor was stunned for a moment, but carefully looked at Lance and the people around him, and finally decided to leave a business card, while saying, "You can find me if it's a medical problem, but don't bring trouble to me."

Lance shook hands vigorously, "I promise!"

Two hours later, Erwin woke up from the anesthesia. He looked at Lance and the angry Ethan by the bed and gave a smile, "Sorry, I messed up this time."

Lance shook his head, "Rest well, tell me his name."

"Hammer!"

A large group of people left like this, leaving Allen and another person to take care of him here. Standing at the entrance of the hospital, Lance lit a cigarette, "I know the best way is to wait for him at the dock tomorrow morning, which is the rational approach. He can't escape."

"But from the perspective of my personal emotional release and sensibility, I don't want to wait until tomorrow for this revenge!"

The twenty or so people around him stood quietly, looking at him.

Lance looked into each of their eyes, meeting their gazes. He gestured with the hand holding his cigarette. "Go mobilize our people. Find out where he lives, where he is now. I want to see him before dawn!"

"Spend what you need to spend. I don't care how many people you disturb, or how much money you spend. I only care about seeing him!"

"Now, go do it!"
