Exploiting Hollywood 1980

Chapter 225 Barefoot

McGillis has a warm smile, a swaying walk, and a good figure from behind.

After Ronald followed her into the room, he closed the door and said, "Can you take off your high heels and let me see?"

"It seems that the rumors about you are all true." McGillis moved closer to Ronald, and a manly breath burned her face. The tired soul illuminated by the excessively bright lights in the shooting location seemed to be washed by hot water and sparkled again.

McGillis put his hand around Ronald's neck and looked up at him. "Do you like my bare feet?"

She raised her left leg and rubbed it behind her right leg. "Click", the three-inch high heels fell down.

"Plop", another click, and the other one also fell to the ground.

Ronald felt that McGillis seemed to have suddenly become shorter, and he felt in his heart that he was about the same height. He stretched out his hands to hold McGillis's waist, pulled her up slightly, and then put her down again. This height was still a little higher.

McGillis got closer and closer, and the heat from Ronald's palm on her waist made her feel that her entire upper body began to heat up.

"We seem to be at the right height like this." McGillis stood on tiptoes to make himself taller, but it still seemed a bit shorter. She put both feet on Ronald's toes and then stood on tiptoe. This time she felt much more comfortable.

Hooking Ronald's neck, McGillis could see his deep eyes when she raised her head. She happily raised one foot and slowly rubbed it on Ronald's leg. Their bodies were almost touching.

"Um...Kelly, let me see how you look first." Ronald felt a little overwhelmed by McGillis's enthusiasm and quickly pulled her farther away from his waist. "You don't need to tiptoe, just stand naturally."

"What?" McGillis didn't know what was going on and turned around barefoot.

"Can it be lower?" Ronald touched his chin with his hand, still comparing in his mind.

"Is that so?" McGillis thought to himself that this director has so many tricks up her sleeve. She turned her back to the table, held her hands behind her back, and then leaned her upper body slightly back, as if she was waiting to be picked.

"Now the height difference is almost the same." Ronald took a step in front of her, used one hand to mark the height from his chin, and then stretched it forward to McGillis' head, feeling confident.

"What are you doing?" McGillis saw this action, his expression changed, and he pushed Ronald away.

"Are you measuring my height? Are you doing it for Tom? Let me play with him barefoot?"

"It would be better if you could lean back a little more and tilt your waist a little more like you are now.

"Get out of here!" McGillis raised his eyebrows, telling the ignorant Ronald to get out.

"Listen to me, Paramount executives are coming to the crew tomorrow. They pay more attention to the height difference between Tom and you. We have to satisfy them so that the subsequent filming can go smoothly..."

"Get out!..." McGillis pointed at the door.

"I'll get out right away. Remember to keep doing this tomorrow..."

"When you shoot Tom singing karaoke, remember to lower the camera a little and use a little elevation angle." Ronald pulled over the director of photography Kimball and quietly ordered.

Early the next morning, the crew came to the bar at the Miramar base and took advantage of the morning light to film the scene where the Lone Ranger strikes up a conversation with Charlie. No one cared about Ronald in this drama, so he used a lot of backlighting under magic light moments to satisfy the addiction of artistic photography.

Last night, Ronald confirmed that McGillis could play the role slightly shorter than Tom Cruise. He immediately summoned Bruckheimer, Tom Cruise, and Paula Wagner for an overnight meeting.

Everyone's original consensus was that Charlie could appear slightly taller than the Lone Ranger in the camera.

"Top Gun" is an ensemble drama, and there are too many very tall actors in it. For example, Tim Robbins, who plays Master Merlin, the second backseat radar officer of the Lone Ranger, is very tall and can sit in an F-14. There are difficulties in the cockpit.

Therefore, Tom Cruise's height disadvantage cannot be concealed. There are always people in the same frame as him. Paula originally agreed to have McGillis appear slightly taller than Cruise in the film. This does not affect Cruise's screen image.

However, the old-school ideas of the President of Paramount were discovered by Don Simpson, and everyone still agreed at night to overturn the previous setting and let the Lone Ranger and Charlie talk alone in the scene, and try their best to make the Lone Ranger higher.

"Got it." Director of photography Kimball is well aware of these little shooting tricks. Tom Cruise is closer to the camera than McGillis in this scene. Shooting at a slightly elevated angle can create an illusion of perspective. Don't close up. Cruise is taller.

"But what is karaoke?"

"Um...it means The Lone Ranger picks up the microphone and sings. It's Japanese, Japanese, right?"

"!"

Tom Cruise picked up the microphone in the bar and started singing old Elvis songs.

"When I kiss your lips, you never close your eyes again..."

"And you are not as gentle to me as before..."

Gradually, the actors in the bar, together with the extras behind, began to sing this old song with Tom Cruise to help him pick up girls.

McGillis's Charlie can no longer hold back her smile and allows the Lone Ranger to sit down next to her.

"I made an appointment with someone..." Charlie smiled.

"Oh, I have an appointment..." The Lone Ranger pretended to be sophisticated.

The two started chatting before Charlie's date arrived.

Ronald looked over from the camera angle. The Lone Ranger was beside Charlie, half a head taller than her. He nodded, everything was under control.

"Oh, my date is here, Perry, I'll be there right away." McGillis stood up, letting out a sigh of relief in her heart.

It is not an easy task for her to maintain such a slumped posture during filming.

"Cut!" Ronald saw Kimball's OK gesture and announced, "This shot is developed and we are preparing for the next scene."

"OK……"

McGillis took the lead in applauding outside the camera. She stood barefoot on the floor. After hearing Ronald's order, she immediately found a pair of flat shoes and put them on. It's very troublesome to play with a short male protagonist.

"Congratulations, it was a great shot."

An executive sent to inspect the scene by Paramount CEO Frank Mancuso was pleased with everything on site.

"Mr. Mancuso respects the traditions of Hollywood, and he will be happy to highlight the male protagonist's shooting method."

"Hello..." Ronald saw the real owner coming, and let the crew rest while he accompanied him to visit the base bar where the scene was to be filmed today.

"I will report truthfully to Mr. Mancuso and everything will be satisfactory."

Ronald sent him out. At the door of the bar, the executive looked at a red Ferrari and asked Ronald, "Is this the car the Lone Ranger wants to drive?"

"Yes, Ferrari GTO 288", Ronald introduced pointing to his car.

"Why not a convertible?"

"Convertible?"

"Yes, in classic Hollywood, the protagonists race cars with open tops, so as to reflect the handsome appearance of the protagonist. And Ferrari is not willing to pay sponsorship fees, but Japanese motorcycle manufacturers are very willing to cooperate with us, why don't you change one Where’s the motorcycle?”

"This..." Ronald was speechless for a moment. What he was shooting was not a racing movie. In the scene that was supposed to show the heroism of the Lone Ranger, he was driving a plane.

"We will revise this script. It would be better if Paramount could give you a list of manufacturers that are willing to cooperate." Bruckheimer came from the side and continued.

"Is this man just telling me what to do?" Ronald asked Bruckheimer angrily why he wanted to meet his request.

"These executive producers sitting in the office know very little about film shooting, so they will make some strange requests. If you don't agree to him, he will become suspicious and get more involved in the crew. Innocuous details, just follow them I’ve changed my mind.”

"Okay." Ronald thought about it, so he stopped worrying about these details and went into the bar to continue shooting.

"Pete, just sit here and talk to McGillis about anything. Our microphones won't use your live recording."

Ronald told Navy adviser Pete Pettigrew, who was sitting next to McGillis. This is a little sweetness he gave Pete. The crew still has many things to do. He needs to communicate with the Navy and let him guest star as instructor Charlie's date. This will make him more Hollywood-oriented when he is between the Navy and Hollywood.

"Is it okay to just talk like this?" Peter was indeed very happy, sitting on the table in the bar, his waist straight and very graceful.

"Yes, let's talk casually, as long as we don't look at the camera." McGillis finally no longer had to wear shoes and bare feet, and she happily told Peter about her experience in cooperating with filming.

"!"

Looking through the viewfinder of the camera, Tom Cruise in the distance is smiling. The Lone Ranger he plays is peeking at Pete who is dating Charlie. They are obviously not dating as a couple, but discussing some professional issues.

This shows that there is still hope for the Lone Ranger to pursue Charlie.

"cut!"

"How?" Ronald asked the photography director in a low voice.

"No problem, I took the photos according to the agreed angle. The Lone Ranger definitely looks taller than Charlie."

Ronald patted Kimball and ordered another.

"snort!"

The one who snorted coldly in the corner was Val Kilmer. When he heard that Paramount executives were coming to inspect, he came out of the dressing room in advance to look cool. Sure enough, he received a compliment from the other party, saying that his figure was more like that of the protagonist Cruise in the golden age of Hollywood.

Val Kilmer, who has been on the theater stage and in movies all year round, clearly sees the little tricks used by the director of photography. It seems that Tom Cruise is very concerned about his height.

McGillis may be only an inch or two taller than Tom, but he is six feet tall. When they appear in the same frame, he will never let Tom get past him.

"So what if the script, director, director of photography, and producer all have to highlight Cruise? Look at how I can steal the show." He was thinking of bad ideas with pride.
