Chapter 169 Diane's Love Breakfast

Diane and Donna, taking advantage of the weekend, decided to take Douglas Jr.'s car and go to Washington, DC.

The two girls, whose families were not well-off when they were young, did not go to the capital of the country to visit landmarks such as the White House and Capitol Hill like other middle school students.

When chatting, both of them had a sudden whim to make up for their regrets. It happened that Douglas Jr. was going to Washington, D.C., to chat with George Jr. about election fundraising.

The two girlfriends took the opportunity to come over, because of George's relationship, they enjoyed the treatment of acquaintances of the deputy commander, and they were accompanied by someone specially assigned to play.

"Are these people visiting tourists? Why are they all carrying a small bag?" The two girls saw more and more people gathering at the gate of the Capitol Hill, gathered in front of the Capitol Hill, and then walked in the direction of the Monument of the Dead.

"They're here to attend a rally. There are such gatherings every now and then, but this time it's bigger..." the assistant to the Congress explained with a smile.

"What's the matter with you, you seem to be absent-minded." Donna touched Diane's shoulder, her good friend didn't have the slightest joy of fulfilling her childhood wish today.

"Hey, does it matter what Ronnie is?" Diane was still worried about Ronald's situation in New York. He has never been ill, but this time he has postponed work and rested at home, which seems to be serious.

"He said it's okay, you care so much about him now, you don't know who he is with in New York..." Donna looked at Diane's face and didn't continue.

"It's fine..." Diane didn't want to continue this topic, she continued to walk, and when the two were about to enter Capitol Hill, Diane suddenly called out,

"What's that?" I saw those gathering outside the Capitol Hill, as if they had made an appointment, one by one, they took out a large towel-sized, colorful cloth from their small bags, and raised them above their heads.

There were all kinds of cloth strips, and it seemed that there were words embroidered on them. These people began to hold up the strips, and after making up thirty, they set off for the Memorial of the Fallen Soldiers, and then new people gathered.

"A protest slogan? Oh, no." Donna covered the sun with her hand and looked into the distance.

"No, it seems to be a person's name." The two were more interested in this kind of large-scale gathering than the ancient buildings, so they greeted the congressional assistants and walked over to the crowd.

"Are they the families of veterans?" Diane approached, feeling that these people had sad faces, not the usual angry expressions of the protest crowd.

Some young people held the strip of cloth and wept, and some elderly parents tried to raise the strip of cloth as high as possible so that more people could see the name of their child written on it.

Diane and Donna walked forward with these people involuntarily, and arrived at the large grass square in front of the Memorial to the Fallen Soldiers, where there were even more people.

A staff member guided those people to a place where there were many sewing machines, and they sewed together the large and small pieces of cloth with names written in different fonts in the hands of those people. A group of 30 people's names were sewn into a large piece.

"Bruce Hellas...David Hertz..." In front of the white monument, there was a stand on which someone installed a large speaker and began to read the names on the unfolded and stitched cloth.

Diane and Donna glanced at each other. Although this form of gathering was invented by those who opposed the Vietnam War, today's ceremony is obviously not about veterans.

Such and such a ceremony was carried out in constant silence, except for the host who read the names of the deceased on each piece of cloth that was unfolded, and there were only relatives and friends weeping softly in the audience.

"How many people have to die before this government wakes up?" Finally, an angry lady rushed to the podium, grabbed the microphone, and began to condemn the inaction of the White House and Congress.

"We need AZt, the White House and the CDC, more research funding, more research institutes and new drugs..." the two girls, Diane and Donna, understood.

This gathering is for the family members of patients who died of AIDS. On each piece of cloth is the name of a person who died of AIDS. Their close relatives and friends take this opportunity to commemorate.

Many people cried very sadly. This disease is always considered to be the result of moral corruption, but the thousands of people who died at the scene all had relatives, friends, family members, and children who mourned for them.

In such a place, you can no longer classify them as immoral and condemned by God. ...

"Ah... ah..." Ronald moaned in a low voice on the big bed at home, and as the night passed, his flu not only didn't get better, but became serious instead.

He knew that he had a severe fever, but he was so weak that he couldn't even get up to boil a pot of hot black tea and make ginger slices.

"Ring, ring, ring..." The phone was still ringing, but in Ronald's ears, there seemed to be a layer of something separating the sound, and the sound didn't ring, as if it was coming from a far away place.

"Hmm..." Ronald finally reached out and pressed the hands-free button.

"Ronald, you finally answered the phone. There was a big problem with the crew, and neither Weintraub nor Michelle Cannold could find you." It was Richard on the phone.

"What's the big deal?" Ronald had a stuffy nose and was buzzing.

"James Crabe, the director of photography for the Long Way Boys, has not been seen for several days. When Weintraub went to his house, he was found dead at home."

"Hey..." When Ronald heard about this, he felt anxious and sweated profusely, but his health improved a little. He sat up from the bed,

"What's going on? What's the reason?"

"The hospital's preliminary conclusion is that it is a complication caused by AIDS... Did you shake hands or hug him at the project launch party that day? I contacted the best private hospitals in New York and Los Angeles, and you have to go for an examination right away..."

"Shxt, I just shook hands with him, and I'm not..., don't talk about shaking hands and hugging, kissing is not contagious." Ronald wondered why such an unlucky thing happened, and he had to find another director of photography.

"Don't take it lightly. Right now, the crew is panicking. All the people who have had close contact with him have to go to the hospital for an examination. I'm looking for the best hospital in New York. If you go to draw blood, it only takes three days to give the preliminary results..."

"You're thinking too much, tell Weintraub to wait until I get back, and he'll find a new photographer to replace it...um...cough..."

"What's wrong with you, I seem to hear you coughing, Ronald, do you have any cold symptoms? I'll go to Los Angeles to find you right away..."

"Bang...", the annoyed Ronald hung up the phone, I always pay attention to safety measures, well, this guy...

"Uh...cough cough..." Ronald coughed again after exerting too much force. He shivered and got out of bed, took a hot bath in the bathroom, then climbed back on the bed, and went back to sleep.

...

"Rick, does your client Ronald have a different orientation? Why is it so coincidental that James Creb died and he didn't show up? I heard that when this virus is infected, he will have very severe cold-like symptoms." The agent inside the cAA began to talk to Nisita and Richard.

"What nonsense are you talking about? Everyone knows that Ronald likes beautiful women. Is it because your clients can't get girlfriends of Ronald's level, so you come here to learn how to bark like a dog?" Nisita responded forcefully to these colleagues.

"I'm afraid I won't be able to go to New York with you. There's a lot of noise about James Craib's death from AIDS. Some people are deliberately spreading rumors about Ronald. Now Kelly McGillis and Annette Bening are calling to ask about Ronald's condition. And Cindy Crawford is also coyly calling me through her agent. The most outrageous thing is that even the fucking Madonna called me... When did Ronald have an affair with her?"

"I must have Ronald go to the hospital in the past, so that all the rumors can be quelled." Richard picked up his briefcase and was ready to go.

These female stars are probably afraid of being infected.

"You and Ronald explain that this matter is mainly because someone is spreading his rumors, so he needs to explain as quickly as possible, he understands."... Sure enough, someone deliberately spread rumors. This time Ronald was suspected of being infected with a super virus, and it spread very quickly.

Even Helen Slater in Toronto, Canada received an anonymous phone call to break the news. Helen greeted director Cameron Crowe, ran to the hotel and made an international call to Ronald.

"I received an anonymous call about you, but don't worry, AZt is now able to control the disease very well. Ryan White was originally told by the doctor that he could only live for six months. After taking the medicine, he has lived for more than four years. Now he often appears on talk shows."

"What are you talking about? Who is Ryan White? Cough cough cough..." Ronald was woken up, his head was still groggy, and he couldn't understand what Helen meant.

Helen heard on the phone that Ronald seemed to be seriously ill, and couldn't help it all at once, tears welled up in her eyes,

"I...I mean...Ronald, I am very worried about you...I will ask for leave to go back to see you, and I will accompany you to the hospital for a checkup. This virus is very powerful. But now the medical science is developing very fast, so don't worry..." She was afraid that Ronald would hear that she was crying, so she quickly covered the receiver.

"What are you talking about? It's just a flu. I'm sleepy and I'm going to bed. Don't ask for leave. The movie is important..." Ronald felt groggy, hung up the phone, felt chills again, and quickly wrapped the quilt.

"Who are you? Why are you telling me this?" Cameron Crowe also received an anonymous call over there. He asked who the other party was, and only heard the voice after hanging up.

...

"Isn't this disease completely caused by people with abnormal orientation?" Diane and Donna watched the rally for a long time, and volunteers were distributing various popular science pamphlets to the bystanders.

Both the cdc and the White House are unwilling to admit the severity of the AIDS epidemic, so only they themselves can promote social awareness of this disease.

The booklet is told from the perspective of a boy named Ryan White. He is a hemophiliac, because he was infected with the virus during a blood transfusion, and because the school refused to let him continue to study, he chose to go to court and return to school after winning.

He told a lot about the various discrimination he suffered because of this disease, and explained the origin of this virus.

Finally, I appeal to everyone not to discriminate against patients, and please support the appeal to the White House and Congress to speed up the CDC's approval of the use of the effective drug AZt, as well as investment in research and development of new drugs.

Because the little boy is a victim with no moral flaws, his angle is very convincing.

Many people are beginning to agree that these patients do not deserve what they deserve, and that the pathology and drug treatment must be studied as soon as possible, otherwise this will become a problem for the whole society.

Diane read some popular science and knew that simple insurance measures can basically prevent infection. The two girlfriends walked for a day today, ordered takeaway into the hotel, and started to eat dinner.

"Fauci, director of the CDC, said that the first case of death due to influenza this year was a Wisconsin woman. She and her husband visited a local pig market and unfortunately died. Afterwards, the flu was of the h1N1 type. Fauci urged everyone to get vaccinated, which can greatly reduce the risk..."

"Huh?" Diane looked at the NBC news and thought of Ronald,

"You think Ronald will be fine, right? This flu seems to be very serious..."

"Call him and ask..." Donna felt that it wasn't that serious.

"Everything..." Diane put down the phone and made three consecutive calls, but Ronald didn't answer the phone.

Her heart began to hang...

"No, Donna, I can't accompany you anymore, I have to go back and see..." Diane began to pack her clothes.

"Okay, I'll call Doug and we'll go back together." Donna suspected that Ronald might not have heard the call.

But also afraid in case.

"When you get to New York, call me back..." Little Doug quickly got a vehicle with a driver and sent them back overnight.

"I know, take care of yourself..." Donna kissed little Douglas on the cheek, calling out to Diane who was still watching TV,

"Diane..."

"The third presidential debate will be held tomorrow. It is reported that Governor Dukakis may have been infected with the latest flu, but the campaign team refused to comment on it, and said that there are no rumors that will affect Dukakis' attendance." Diane became more and more panicked, and ran outside the door to get in the car without saying hello to Douglas.

...

"Dongdongdong..." Diane was banging on the door vigorously,

"Ronald, are you there?" It was past eleven o'clock in the evening, and after more than four hours of driving, Diane and Donna, who had just returned to the house on Fifth Avenue, came to the door of Ronald's house under the guidance of the housekeeper.

"I'm his relative. Open the door. Let's see. Ronald may be sick..." Donna took out her driver's license and showed it to the butler. After checking the name of the emergency contact that Ronald left, he took out the spare key and opened the door.

"Ronald..." Diane ran into the bedroom, half of Ronald's head was exposed under the messy quilt, and it was covered in sweat.

"Ah..." Ronald was woken up by the glare of the light, looking at the caring Diane and Donna behind him,

"Why are you here?" Drinking the hot ginger black tea made by Diane and eating the pizza she ordered, Ronald, who had been hungry all day without drinking hot water, regained some strength.

Ronald's thermometer was still quite high, but after being checked by the doctor Donna called, he said there was no particular danger.

Ronald kept them three meters away from him to prevent them from being infected by him. Say again and again that you are fine, you can rest assured.

I just fell asleep and didn't hear the phone call outside. But Diane refused to leave Ronald alone in the big house, and insisted on accompanying him, just in case.

Ronald couldn't help it, but he agreed that he couldn't sleep in one room, and asked Diane to sleep in the next room, so he didn't have to worry about it tomorrow.

To be honest, Ronald didn't want Diane to leave either. In a big house with one person, there is no one to boil hot water to order takeaway when you are sick, so I feel very pitiful.

Diane didn't insist. After checking on Ronald's situation, she told Donna to go back to her apartment to sleep and change her shift tomorrow.

After supplementing with hot water and food, Ronald, who regained some energy, finally had a good night's sleep, and didn't wake up until the next morning when it was bright.

He seemed to hear Diane calling outside. Ronald, who was still a little weak, lay quietly on the bed with his eyes closed.

"Hey, mom, do you know how to boil eggs? Just boil them in a pot of hot milk? How long will it take? Yes, it can't be too old, he doesn't like to eat too old... Umm, six and a half minutes, right? How do you make scrambled eggs? What kind of pot do you use? In a frying pan, put butter, two tablespoons of butter? Put the egg liquid with milk on medium-low heat, and then add salt when it's almost cooked. I understand." I had to call my mother for help.

While making a long distance call, I boiled an omelette and it turned out to be well done. Added some bacon and vegetables, toasted two slices of bread, and a good breakfast was ready.

"Ding Dong... Ding Dong..."

"Here we come..." Diane knew that Donna was coming to take over.

"Diane, what did you cook? Well, it tastes very good. The omelet needs to be turned a few more times to make it just right. You can add some pepper, Ronald likes it, and it's also good for the flu." Donna and Aunt Karen also came in after opening the door.

I glanced at the breakfast in the kitchen, checked it and was very satisfied, and then taught Ronald a few favorite recipes.

"Diane, are you there? I want to drink some hot water..." Ronald gathered his strength and opened the curtains. The sun shone in and made him feel comfortable, so he asked Diane to give him some water to drink.

"Chicken soup is good for a cold..." Aunt Karen scooped up a bowl of chicken soup for Diane and motioned for her to bring it in with her breakfast.

Then she left with Donna smiling.

"Dangdang, room service..." Diane was carrying a large tray, on which the smell of bacon, fried eggs, and chicken soup stunned Ronald for a moment.

It was always Ronald who prepared breakfast for the ladies the morning after the cloud and rain. Among so many women who had relationships, Diane was the first to cook him breakfast.

The warm chicken soup flowed into his stomach, and the scrambled eggs were delicious and peppered. Ronald tasted very appetizing, almost like Aunt Karen.

"Do you want some more?" Diane saw that Ronald was eating very well. Ronald shook his head, indicating that he was full.

"Then you have a good rest, I'm right here, call me if you have anything to do." Diane turned on the TV for Ronald, then helped him put a pillow, and went out first with the tableware.

"Dukakis campaign says governor confirmed for night's debate..."

"Cdc Director Fauci said that he heard the appeals of the AIDS victims in Washington yesterday. He needs to invest more funds and resources, as well as top researchers, to hope to discover new treatments..." Ronald took the remote control, turned down the sound, and fell asleep by himself, finding a more comfortable position.

Ronald seemed to be able to smell the faint smell of chicken soup in his nose, and the smell of Diane's housewife who was busy in the kitchen.

Ronald looked at the white roof, motionless, the sun was shining on his body, and his body was warm.

It really feels good to have someone you love take care of your days.
