Exploiting Hollywood 1980
Chapter 33 Script Evaluation
"Ring, bell, bell..."
Awakened by the sound of the alarm clock set three hours ago, Ronald felt as if he was still floating in mid-air.
The mental tension in the past two days and the lack of sleep last night, the whole person is a little out of state.
After taking a bath in scalding hot water, Ronald regained his energy, and today will be a day of continuous fighting.
Ronald drove to the casting studio early this morning after it was too late to speak to casting director Julia Taylor on the phone last night. After greeting the big black security guard, Ronald waited at the front desk for Julia to appear.
"She's been busy casting new films these two days, so she doesn't necessarily have time to talk to you." The front desk couldn't help reminding Ronald when he saw him coming to the company so early.
"When will she come today, I only need 20, not 10 minutes." In addition to the first and second editions of the script, Ronald also specially took out Doris's plot, just in case Julia didn't have time to watch it.
"Then just wait." The front desk said angrily.
"This is a present for you." Ronald took out a box of beautifully packaged chocolates and handed it over. He bought it temporarily when he went out in the morning, just to make the front desk happy.
"Oh, is this Belgian? I like it very much." The front desk happily swept the chocolate into the drawer under the table.
"I'll tell you quietly, Julia has encountered some problems in casting the past two days, and she's in a bad mood. Don't refute her, but follow her."
"Got it, thank you."
Ronald was waiting at the front desk while chatting with the front desk lady.
"Good morning, Julia." The front desk suddenly sat down with a typical office-girl smile.
"Morning. Ronald, are you here too?" Julia walked over quickly and went to the conference room after saying hello.
"Julia, I have something to ask you to..." The receptionist pulled him gently under the table.
"...to ask for your help". Ronald, no matter how much, must speak out.
"I'm busy, you wait for me." Julia pushed the door and walked in. From the moment the door opened, Ronald saw that there were actors waiting inside.
"Starting auditions so early?"
"You have to wait. It's been like this for the past two days. As soon as you go in, let them play. It doesn't last for an hour each time." The front desk whispered to Ronald.
Ronald raised his hand to look at his watch, he didn't have much time to waste in the morning.
"Julia, I only need ten minutes..."
"Julia, Julia, my business is urgent, can you...?"
Two hours had passed, and Ronald had not stopped Julia. The second time he had tried to pull her forcibly, but Julia's stern eyes stopped him, after all, he had to ask her for help.
If he still can't find free time, Ronald can only try Erin from the Stella Adler Center for the Performing Arts. I don't know if it's too late, I have to find a place to call.
Ronald, who was anxiously circling outside the conference room, let out a long sigh of "hey". He still had no connections. He leaned against the wall, lightly bumped his head against the wall twice, and then leaned against the wall.
"Young man, you still hit the wall so well."
Ronald raised his head, the same strange man who wore black-rimmed glasses last time, explaining to himself what emotional memory is.
"Uh..." Ronald was embarrassed and speechless.
"Did you come here to peek at the audition too?" the man said softly to him, "don't make too much noise or they'll hear it inside."
"Peeking?" Ronald followed the strange man's gaze. It turned out that there was a small door on the wall of the audition room with transparent glass above. That strange man, just behind the door, observed the actor who was auditioning from a distance.
"Why are you peeking here?"
"You know, I'm not good at dealing with people,
I get nervous when facing them, so I’ll just watch it secretly when I audition, and I’ll write down the right person and tell Julia later. ' the strange man lowered his voice and explained to Ronald.
So he was the director of the new film that Julia served? Ronald thought to himself.
"But you seem to talk to me normally, not like an introvert at all."
"Yeah, yeah, I'm always talking when I meet the right people, but I'm scared when I meet strangers. Last time you hit the wall well, I just talked to you, I feel like we're the same Humanoids are the kind of people who are very observant.”
"Are you the director?"
"Yes, I'm the director. And a famous Manhattan clarinetist."
"Can you help me read my script and give me some advice?"
Ronald handed over his rewritten Doris scene. It just so happens that he is also a director, let's see if he can get the evaluation of this guy.
"Why not? It just so happens that this group of actors is very boring."
The director and clarinetist straightened his glasses, picked up the two versions of Doris's plot before and after Ronald's revision, and went to the light to start watching.
"Well, that's pretty good, I'm right, you have a strong sense of observation. I've seen a lot of shy performers in the orchestra, but I haven't seen a shy singer."
"It's also great here. Watching exploitative films at midnight shows the mental barrier opened by enthusiasm. Are these made up by you or are they real? Do they really watch movies like this at midnight and act it out themselves?"
"Oh yes. They have a fan club, the most who've seen the Rocky Horror show over 150 times."
"More than 150 times? If only someone liked my movie that much. My fans haven't watched it so many times. Even a film critic only sees it once. I really envy this director for that, though He made shit."
"I really hope that my films can get such high evaluations from the public, but most of my audiences are intellectuals, and the general public doesn't like to watch them."
The director and clarinetist began to ramble on to himself again.
Any critics reviewing his films? It seems his movies are good, maybe Alan Parker will approve of his assessment?
"Could you give me some written critique of my script, if it's convenient for you? For some reason, I need an authoritative third-party opinion, sir?"
"Do you have any other parts of the script? Sometimes the fragments of the script may not represent the real level."
Ronald hurriedly handed over the final version of the script he brought from Antonia, and the parts he wrote were marked with post-it notes.
"Well, this part is very good, very good. Your brushstrokes are very good, and you are very careful in observing life. I said that we are a kind of people."
"Huh? How did you write this dialogue of a girl robbing a man, the darker the blackberry, the sweeter the taste, very interesting wording. I think you have a talent for writing comedy, why don't you try to change the script for me next time? "
"By the way, you can call me Woody, Woody Allen."
"Thank you, Mr. Woody Allen. My name is Ronald Lee." Shaking hands with Woody Allen, "Can you give me a third-party opinion?"
At this time, Julia heard the movement outside, called off the audition, and came out to see that Ronald was pestering Woody Allen, "Ronald, don't disturb Woody. We are still auditioning."
"It's okay Julia, Ronald is great, I'm looking at his script and it's great."
"I'm not satisfied with this batch of actors, Julia. Why not try Ronald? I think he hits the wall very well, maybe he has talent as an actor."
"Are you serious?" Julia looked at Ronald, not quite understanding what it meant to hit the wall well.
"Of course, he's a natural performer, and he hits very naturally. A hundred times better than those contrived actors."
As Woody Allen spoke, he wrote a review of Ronald's script.
"Ronald Lee's revisions made the script better. The character of Doris went from mediocre to great. I hope he can change the lines of my script."
After thinking about it, he added, "And again: Ronald's acting skills are also very natural, and he can be considered for the guy who banged his head against the wall after failing the admissions interview. Autograph - Woody Allen."
Tear the review out of the notebook and hand it back to Ronald in the script.
"Ronald, when are you going to audition for my new film? Julia will arrange it."
"Well, I still have very important things today, and I don't have time to audition."
"It's okay, I know how to find you, Ronald." Woody Allen winked at him.
"Julia, I apologize for interrupting your audition, but I am interrupting you because of something very important."
Ronald briefly described his predicament to Julia, hoping she would give her a neutral review of the script.
"Ronnie, you are so interesting, you already have Woody's evaluation, enough." But Julia still took the script and quickly browsed it.
Ronald looked at Woody, then looked back at Julia, is this man some kind of big shot?
"You don't know Woody, do you? He is the most powerful director in New York. In 1977, he directed and starred in 'Annie Hall', beating George Lucas, winning the Oscar for best original screenplay, and the most Two awards for best director."
"Don't say it, George is just not liked by the judges." Woody seemed a little shy when he heard others praise him.
Ronald looked at Woody in surprise. The little man was a two-time Oscar winner. His assessment of his script is absolutely strong enough.
"I'm sorry, Mr. Allen. I don't know who you are. In high school, I was so busy making money that I didn't have much time for movies."
"Don't worry about it, keep writing the script, and you'll make it one day. Remember to come and see me play at the bar at the Carlisle Hotel. I'll be there every Monday night with the New Orleans Jazz Band." Woody Allen added to He blinked.
Ronald apologized to Julia again and hugged her goodbye. Grab the script and head straight for the door.
He ran to the phone booth, stuffed a few coins in, and dialed the law firm of Robert Donnell.
Lindsay, please don't go to court.
Ah, it works.
"Is it Rebecca? I'm Ronald. I'm looking for Miss Lindsay Dole. Please ask her to answer the phone."
"Lindsay, it's me Ronald. I got a key testimony. I can try to negotiate again. Are you in the office? I'll go to you."
