Forest Guardian: I Really Don’t Want to Be a Beast Tamer
#1 - Fire-breathing bird
On the seventh day of the continuous heavy rain, Chen Yuan felt that this world was somewhat different.
The camphor tree in the yard grew taller and taller, its branches and leaves luxuriant. When the strong wind swept through, it resembled a swaying green ocean.
The weeds on both sides of the road and in the farmland grew wildly, easily exceeding one meter in height; even the exterior of the houses was covered with moss plants, and some vines like ivy enveloped parts of the houses, the lush greenery spreading throughout Xuanhe Village.
“Woof woof!”
The sudden barking of a dog forcibly pulled Chen Yuan back to his thoughts. He looked down and saw a Chinese pastoral dog covered in brown fur, its tail wagging from side to side.
“And you.” Looking at the dog in front of him, Chen Yuan's expression was strange for a moment.
This Chinese pastoral dog, born just half a month ago, had grown rapidly during this week of heavy rain, its appearance changing beyond imagination. Its size had increased several times, already comparable to an ordinary adult dog.
This astonishing growth rate was obviously contrary to biological common sense, but when he thought of the wildly growing plants outside, Chen Yuan felt it was quite normal.
If everyone is abnormal, then it's normal.
“Woof woof woof!”
The dog's barking became more and more urgent, and its eyes looking at Chen Yuan revealed a hint of eagerness and desire.
Chen Yuan smiled helplessly and twisted open the Coke on his desk.
“Woof!”
The dog lay on the ground, straining its neck, opening its mouth, drooling, and wagging its tail.
The Coke flowed down, and the stimulating smell rushed to its nose. The dog hurriedly gulped it down, the excitement in its eyes becoming more and more intense, and the frequency of its tail wagging rapidly increased.
“You like drinking Coke so much, I'll call you Coke from now on.” Chen Yuan tightened the remaining half bottle of Coke and smiled at the dog in front of him.
Coke didn't care about Chen Yuan's words, but stared at the half bottle of Coke with eager eyes, its desire about to burst out.
Chen Yuan put the Coke bottle back on the table and threatened Coke, who was lying on the ground, “Drinking too much Coke will make you unable to have puppies.”
Coke seemed to understand Chen Yuan's meaning, and quickly shrank its neck, stiffly shifting its gaze away from the Coke bottle.
Chen Yuan smiled slightly, but suddenly looked up at the window and muttered, “Huh?”
“The rain stopped?”
He stood up, pushed open the window, and the warm sunshine rushed into the room.
Chen Yuan raised his head and saw strands of sunlight piercing through the heavy dark clouds, gently洒向the earth.
He was stunned at first, and then a bright smile appeared on his face: “It’s not easy, it’s finally sunny.”
This sudden heavy rain swept across every corner of the globe, bringing adverse effects to many countries and cities, and causing hundreds of millions of people to suffer.
Fortunately, after a week of continuous heavy rain, the clouds finally parted and the moon appeared.
Chen Yuan opened the gate of the wildlife rescue station and stood at the door, breathing in the moist and fresh air after the rain, the sunlight falling on him.
Coke behind him couldn't wait to rush out of the gate, frolicking everywhere, chasing its own shadow.
“Xiao Chen, come and take a look with me.”
At this moment, a dark-skinned middle-aged man ran over quickly, looking anxious.
Chen Yuan turned around and said calmly, “Uncle Wang, what happened?”
Uncle Wang stopped in front of Chen Yuan, panting heavily, and said in a hurried tone: “Come and take a look with me, there's a little bird that breathes fire in my field.”
A little bird that breathes fire?
Chen Yuan was slightly stunned, and was about to say something, when he suddenly remembered the changes during this period, and fell silent for a moment.
“Oh dear, come and take a look with me first.” Uncle Wang grabbed Chen Yuan's hand and pulled him towards the east side of the village.
“Don’t worry, don’t worry, I’ll bring a cage.”
Coke followed behind, wagging its tail.
After graduating from university with a major in veterinary medicine, Chen Yuan returned to his hometown, Xuanhe Village, passed the civil service examination of the Forestry Bureau, and entered the wildlife rescue station to work.
Xuanhe Village is located on the southern slope of the Qinling Mountains, with abundant wildlife resources and extremely high forest coverage.
As a staff member of the wildlife rescue station, Chen Yuan's daily work is to rescue injured animals found by forest rangers and villagers.
Stepping over the waterlogged road, passing through the meter-high weeds, the sunlight piercing through the clouds became more and more dazzling, and Chen Yuan quickly came to a piece of farmland with Uncle Wang.
At this time, many people had already gathered in front of the farmland, and as Chen Yuan got closer and closer, the sound of discussion entered his ears.
“What do you think this thing is?”
“I’ve lived for over fifty years, and this is the first time I’ve seen a little bird that breathes fire.”
“Hiss, there have been too many strange things happening lately.”
Seeing Chen Yuan's figure, the discussing crowd gave way to a path, and Chen Yuan saw an orange-yellow petite figure lying on the ground.
This was a bird covered in orange-yellow feathers, not very big, with narrow and pointed wings, and a long and narrow tail; the tip of the upper beak was curved, with sharp tooth-like protrusions on the edges, and a fiery red feather extended from the tail, like a cluster of burning flames.
The pair of dark blue eyes were even more eye-catching, like the blue sea, with waves hidden beneath the calm.
Chen Yuan was stunned in place for a moment.
Not one mistake, one first, one occurrence, one content, one existence, one look!
The appearance of this little bird was obviously inclined towards the falcon family, but its specific appearance did not match the falcon family birds in Chen Yuan's memory.
This is a... never-before-seen strange bird!
What's more, this little bird was spewing clusters of flames from its mouth, which landed on the ground and splashed with faint sparks.
The destructive power was not strong, but this phenomenon was obviously contrary to common sense.
And when the fire-breathing bird spewed flames, a faint pentagram symbol appeared on its forehead.
Thinking about the changes in all aspects, Chen Yuan became more and more convinced that some kind of extraordinary change had occurred in this world.
Chen Yuan tried to calm down and observed carefully, only to find that the wings of the fire-breathing bird were showing bright red blood streaks, and were waving up and down weakly.
The experienced Chen Yuan's eyes lit up, and he immediately saw the current situation of the fire-breathing bird - its wings were injured and it could not fly.
“What’s going on with this fire-breathing bird?” Uncle Wang asked anxiously when he saw Chen Yuan staring at the fire-breathing bird in silence.
Chen Yuan replied slowly: “Its wings are injured, I’ll take it back for treatment first.”
“Oh, oh.” Uncle Wang nodded in realization, then lowered his voice, hesitant to speak, “Do you think it’s because of this heavy rain…”
Chen Yuan raised his eyebrows and replied: “Uncle Wang, these are things that the leaders above are worried about.”
After saying that, Chen Yuan took a step forward and stood directly in front of the fire-breathing bird.
The huge shadow shrouded the fire-breathing bird, but the latter was not afraid at all, and tried to raise its head, laboriously opening its wings, and making a delicate hissing sound: “Chirp!”
As an experienced rescuer, Chen Yuan was not frightened by the fire-breathing bird at all. After confirming that the cluster of flames posed no threat to him, he suddenly reached out and grabbed the back of the fire-breathing bird's neck, lifting it up with force.
“Chirp chirp chirp!”
The fire-breathing bird looked sad and indignant, making fierce protests, sweat oozing from its forehead, and its struggling movements were weak.
The others applauded and cheered, but Chen Yuan, who was holding the fire-breathing bird, had a strange expression.
