#1013 - Unraveling the mystery
Anson had no clues either.
He was slightly disappointed, but not surprised.
Lucas nodded gently, "Okay, I understand. You don't need to overthink it. Leave this matter to me, and I will investigate the truth."
After speaking, Lucas noticed a hint of struggle between Anson's brows, and he quickly stopped him.
"Anson, there's no need to think too much. There are so many eyes on the set, even without specifically paying attention, there will still be clues left behind."
"This matter, I will..."
Before he could finish speaking, Anson interrupted directly, "Paparazzi."
Lucas, "What?"
Anson didn't answer directly, but was stunned for a moment. His memory processing was a little slow, and the scenes from the set churned chaotically and fragmentarily in his mind—
No anomalies.
Objectively speaking, Anson didn't actually notice any abnormalities in the crew that day; but the information that popped up in a flash of intuition was paparazzi.
"What I mean is, maybe the paparazzi entered the set that day, preparing to take sneak pictures."
"Recently, the discussion surrounding the Spider-Man suit hasn't stopped at all. The crew has been racking their brains to prevent sneak shots, even requiring me to wear a cloak when coming in and out. It's really too exaggerated."
"Maybe, some paparazzi successfully broke through the blockade, sneaked into the studio, and found an opportunity to photograph the suit."
"Price," Anson replied, "Of course, this is just my guess. My brain isn't working well right now, maybe I'm just talking nonsense."
"But imagine, a blurry, sneakily taken side silhouette, and a clear, above-board close-up, which one is more valuable?"
"It's like the paparazzi photographing Brad Pitt and Jennifer Aniston's wedding. The blurry silhouette taken while lurking in the reeds certainly has a sense of mystery and discussion, but it still can't compare to the attractiveness of a front-page photo in 'Us Weekly'."
"If possible, it's natural to seize the most important moment, pursue the clarity and detail of the photo. At this time, aesthetics may not be a concern."
"A blurry photo of the suit might be worth ten thousand dollars; but a complete and clear front-facing photo of the suit could be worth a hundred thousand dollars."
Lucas rolled his eyes, "Is my brother only worth a hundred thousand dollars?"
Anson curled his lips, "I thought you were going to say ten dollars at most."
Lucas, "Give him to me, I'd refuse ten dollars; but sacrificing your health, a hundred thousand dollars isn't even worth looking at."
Anson knew Lucas was serious, "And I also thought of something. If he took pictures during breaks, he might be discovered. There are eyes everywhere on the set. Pressing the shutter would probably require constant caution, and he might not even be able to take out the camera smoothly."
"But when filming, all the attention is on the filming work. This is a natural cover, and it should be much easier to operate."
It was originally just an inspiration, but after saying it, it felt more and more like—
This might be the answer.
Lucas didn't respond, and had no expression, but he thought this was indeed a possibility, "If it's paparazzi, do you have any suspects?"
Anson shook his head, "Like searching for a needle in a haystack. You asked Edgar for Eve's phone number. Eve is an expert in this area, she should have a list; even without a target, the paparazzi's internal information is more accessible."
"If it's really paparazzi, if the investigation here is too obvious, he might not take action, and then it would really be like searching for a needle in a haystack."
Speaking of this, Anson remembered something.
"The same thing happened when filming the first movie in the series."
Lucas's face darkened, "You were injured?"
Anson was slightly helpless, "No. At that time, the paparazzi was hiding in the closet of the trailer, curled up in a ball. I thought it was a rat…"
Lucas, "Isn't that what they are, rats." His words didn't hide his dissatisfaction at all.
Anson, "Anyway, I found him. That scene was really a bit funny, haha."
"Actually, I've never been able to understand the public's psychology. It's just a suit, isn't it? It's in the comics, isn't it? Adapting it into a movie might have some changes, but it basically stays the same, there's nothing special about it."
"So, what's the point of seeing the suit in advance?"
"Be amazed, praise it a few times, that's all. Those who like the movie will still like it, and those who aren't interested will still not be interested. I don't see any promotional significance in it."
Lucas, "Do you know that paparazzi?"
Anson, "What?"
Lucas wasn't listening to Anson's complaints at all, his attention was always on the culprit. Anyway, he was never interested in those gossip stories, "That paparazzi, the one who hid in the trailer and took sneak pictures."
Anson, "His status and position are different now, he probably wouldn't do such a humiliating thing again. Actually, he didn't like it back then either. You should have heard of him, Harry Pacey."
Lucas, "Should I know him?"
Anson, "The founder of TMZ."
Lucas suddenly understood, "It's him? He actually has such a connection with you?"
Anson opened a joke meaningfully, "Oh, that's just a small chapter."
Lucas thought seriously, TMZ has now become a monster that has risen strongly in the Internet age. Rumor has it that more than one group has tried to acquire TMZ, and the wealthy News Corp is the first on the list, so Harry Pacey should be considering how to sell it at a high price, and doesn't have time to continue the tiring life of a paparazzi.
Even if TMZ, like the entire market, is eager for photos of the Spider-Man suit, and is even willing to pay a high price, it shouldn't be Harry himself who takes action.
Perhaps, he could inquire about the news through TMZ to see if any paparazzi have been secretly peddling photos from the "Spider-Man 2" set recently.
If there are, the culprit is already obvious.
Thoughts briefly lingered in his mind, Lucas immediately came back to his senses, looked at Anson who was still frowning and thinking hard, and interrupted Anson's thoughts.
"Leave this matter to me."
Anson looked at Lucas, "Let Edgar handle it. You're not a professional, and you have your own work to do. There's no need to waste time here."
Lucas was noncommittal and didn't respond, "Now, you need to rest well."
Anson looked at the sky, "I'm being treated like a patient now!"
Lucas didn't buy it, "You are a patient."
Anson sighed softly, giving up resistance, "At least, you should let me communicate with Edgar or the director and discuss the follow-up matters."
Lucas frowned, doubting his ears.
Anson didn't continue to explain, and quietly met Lucas's gaze.
In the end, Lucas gave in, "Five minutes." Seeing that Anson was still preparing to continue arguing, "The specific matters can be discussed tomorrow, there's no rush, so, either five minutes or forget it."
Anson gritted his teeth secretly, looking up at the ceiling with a lifeless expression.
Lucas turned and left contentedly. As soon as he opened the door, all the figures waiting outside stood up; and there were quite a few people.
