From Flower Vase to Film Emperor in Hollywood
#1132 - Surface
In the night, Evan stood frozen in place, silently watching Keller's fleeing figure, gradually swallowed by the tide of darkness.
He tried to speak, but ultimately remained silent.
Moonlight fell on Evan's shoulders, heavy and suffocating.
Returning to school with countless question marks, Evan tried to focus and get back on track, continuing to work on his thesis, but he was distracted—
No progress.
Frustration, irritability, his mind was a mess, unable to quiet down.
But things didn't improve.
Returning to the dorm, Sam told him there were phone messages.
The first message was from the professor, who was worried because he hadn't submitted his thesis as planned in the afternoon, and called to check on him.
Evan couldn't help but look up at the sky, could things get any worse?
The second message was from…Tommy.
"What the hell did you say to my sister?"
The unfamiliar voice stunned Evan, completely freezing him in place.
"Last night, she cried to me on the phone for over an hour. She told me you went to see her. She… she committed suicide tonight."
"She's dead."
"…You will be too."
Tommy was insane.
Evan… was dumbfounded, no expression, no movement, nothing, just standing there like a wooden puppet, his shoulders drooping almost imperceptibly.
Despair, like mold, slowly spread in the depths of his soul.
The funeral was held on a gloomy day.
From afar, Evan held a bouquet of flowers, but didn't approach.
He could see George, and he could see Tommy, they had imprisoned Keller her whole life, but even after Keller left the world, they still refused to let her go.
Only after they had all left, Evan came to the tombstone alone, quietly watching the coffin waiting to be buried—
In their last meeting, Keller was so embarrassed and in so much pain, the cracks and wounds on her body had never been healed.
A hint of determination appeared in Evan's clear and bright eyes, after struggling through countless wounds, bitterness and sorrow slowly settled into the depths.
"If the scar on my stomach didn't appear out of nowhere, then maybe my father wasn't a madman as everyone thought.
If I have the ability to create scars, then do I also have the ability to heal them? What about Keller's scars?"
The "dream" appeared again, although Evan couldn't tell whether it was a dream or reality; but he did return to the scene recorded in the diary.
That sunny afternoon when he was seven years old, his mother left him at Miller's house, and he played with Keller and Tommy; George said he had bought a camera and was going to shoot a movie, which was originally supposed to star Tommy and Keller, but now, George decided that Evan and Keller would star.
Originally, Evan didn't remember the rest of the memory at all, it was completely blank.
But this time, the "memory" seemed to become clear, and he experienced everything firsthand.
George took them to the basement, Tommy tried to sneak in, George was furious and kicked Tommy out, but Tommy still hid secretly on the stairs.
George said that they were filming Robin Hood, and the next scene was Robin Hood and Maid Marian getting married, and the two were preparing for some things on their wedding night; so, he asked Evan and Keller to take off all their clothes.
Keller lowered her head to avoid eye contact.
George was slightly dissatisfied, "There's no need to make a fuss, just like when we take a bath…"
When he was seven years old, Evan didn't understand the implied meaning; but when he was twenty years old, Evan could understand.
Evan turned to look at Keller, Keller shrank her shoulders timidly and fearfully, her whole body trembling uncontrollably, this didn't seem to be the first time.
Taking a deep breath, Evan decided to make a little change.
Evan leaned towards Keller, lowered his voice in Keller's ear and said, "Cover your ears."
Keller closed her eyes tightly and obediently covered her ears.
Then, Evan raised his head to look at the camera lens, looked at George, expressionless, his eyes slightly grim, inadvertently revealing a hint of ruthlessness, "What time is it now?"
George didn't take it seriously at all, looked at his watch, "It's time for you to do what I tell you to do."
Evan took a step forward, "Wrong answer, XXX. Now is the time for you to calculate carefully."
George was stunned, he finally noticed Evan's difference.
Evan stared at George, unblinking, "In the next thirty seconds, you may push open two doors."
"One door, you will harm your own flesh and blood for life, it will completely change your daughter's life, from a beautiful girl to a walking corpse, her only trust in the world will be completely destroyed because her father is a cruel pervert, and eventually, she will end her own life."
"Nice job, Dad."
George couldn't help but hold his breath, looking at Evan, as if he saw a demon, his steps unsteady due to alcohol began to sway, "Who are you?"
Evan smiled, "Heh heh. Let's put it this way, someone is always watching you, George."
"The other door, treat Keller… just like a loving father should, how about it, sounds pretty good, Dad?"
George didn't dare to look directly into Evan's eyes, timidly lowered his gaze, and nodded weakly.
However, Evan didn't let it go, and continued to move forward, that face left the light and entered the shadows, only a pair of eyes staring at George in the darkness.
"Listen carefully, XXX, if you screw up again, I will castrate you directly."
George swallowed a mouthful of saliva, tried to speak, but didn't make any sound.
"What you need to do is, control your son, Tommy, because he is a violent madman."
Tommy sat on the stairs, listening to the whole process, he grabbed the doll in his hand and began to pull it hard.
Evan didn't notice Tommy in the corner, just immersed in his own thoughts, he needed to make up for all this, he needed to heal this wound.
He turned to walk towards Keller, "One last thing." Then, he whispered in Keller's ear.
Keller put down her hands, finally opened her eyes, mustered up her courage to look at her father, took a deep breath, and shouted loudly, "Never touch me again."
Clap clap! Clap clap clap!
Applause suddenly rang out in the screening room, breaking the silence.
Immediately, the audience realized their gaffe and quickly controlled themselves, covering their mouths, and the applause that had just sounded disappeared again, restoring silence.
However, the stormy waves in Nicholas' mind couldn't stop at all—
The cruel and bloody answer finally surfaced, and those concealed ugliness and hideousness were announced to the world.
More importantly, Evan bravely launched a counterattack.
In life, how many children have faced or are facing such devastation, but can't say it, and don't get protection, until now.
Evan finally took that step and made the child's voice heard.
Uncontrollably, his heart was surging and his blood was boiling.
