From Flower Vase to Film Emperor in Hollywood
#1423 - Blindly follow the trend
Everyone craves Anson-Wood.
This is the current state of Hollywood, best proven by the thick stack of project proposals and scripts piled up like a mountain before us, more vivid than any adulation and cheers, and more direct than any arguments and prejudices, presented before our eyes in the form of a strong visual impact.
However, Anson remains calm—
Having experienced the ups and downs of his previous life, Anson understands one truth: everything is a bubble.
In the internet age, praise is like that, and so is attack. The heat comes quickly and goes quickly, and traffic is ultimately an invisible and intangible nothingness.
In the end, the only thing that can withstand the torrent of time is the work itself.
The smile at the corner of Anson's mouth lifted slightly, "The so-called Hollywood elites are just a group of lost lambs, urgently needing the guidance of trends."
Seeing Anson still maintaining his composure and calmness, Lucas was not surprised at all.
However, Anson is only twenty-one years old, the age of high spirits and recklessness. Behind this calmness, composure, and restraint often lie numerous scars, so very occasionally, Lucas hopes that Anson can be carried away a little, just like a young man who has just emerged.
"But not everyone can become a trend," Lucas complimented subtly.
Anson didn't notice the complexity behind Lucas' words, just simply happy because of the praise, "Then we should seize the opportunity to enjoy it."
"Don't waste time."
Lucas also showed a smile in his eyes because of Anson's words.
Not far away, Charles was about to go out, but found Nora stopping. He followed Nora's line of sight back, and then saw this scene.
Not only was Anson smiling, but Lucas, who was usually expressionless and had a deep look on his face, also showed a smile. The sunlight outside the window shone in, illuminating the entire hall, completely different from the perpetually gloomy sky in New York. Everything seemed to be clear and bright, and the mind also stretched out.
Perhaps, Anson is right, not only Anson himself, but they have also never been able to get out of the nightmare of that year.
But now, it's time.
Charles gently patted Nora's shoulder, and the two turned and walked out.
"Charles, how about coming to Los Angeles to Anson's place for Christmas this year? What do you think?"
"I think it's a good idea. Thanksgiving is in New York, and we'll come here for Christmas."
In the living room, Anson didn't notice his parents leaving, because his attention was completely attracted by the project in his hand—
However, Anson and Lucas are different. He doesn't plan to read every project in detail, otherwise, he won't be able to finish reading these projects until the year of the monkey. He just looks at the cover, looks at the outline, and looks at the project producer or screenwriter, skimming through it, and he has a general outline in his mind.
"Ha!"
Anson laughed directly, and Lucas looked over inexplicably.
Anson showed the project cover to Lucas, "This is a project received by Forest Pictures, right?"
Lucas nodded in agreement, "Why are you so sure that this is not Edgar's project?"
As soon as he heard it, he knew that Lucas still didn't understand where the problem was, which made a smile appear in Anson's eyes, but he didn't continue to play dumb.
"There are currently two major comic camps on the market, DC and Marvel. The Superman, Batman, and Wonder Woman we are familiar with are all superheroes under DC; and Spider-Man, whom I am playing, is under Marvel."
Lucas doesn't read comics, and can be said to know nothing about the two-dimensional culture. Even Superman is only limited to an impression.
"So, they are mortal enemies?" Lucas asked.
Anson nodded, "Incompatible!"
Lucas, "I didn't know this was a superhero movie adapted from a comic, so which camp does he belong to?"
Anson, "He doesn't belong to any camp for the time being, but to another comic company, Vertigo, so it's normal that you don't know, but this producer, Lauren-Shuler-Donner, can't possibly not know."
The project currently in Anson's hands, "Constantine", the movie was later translated as "Hell Detective". It, along with movies such as "Hellboy", "Blade", "Underworld", "Van Helsing", etc., constituted the diverse B-grade super movie market before Marvel swept the world, and it is also the leader with the best box office performance among these works.
"Hell Detective" is a character from Vertigo comics. After the original comic ended, DC acquired Vertigo in 2013, and Constantine also joined the DC universe and began to appear in DC's series and movies.
Of course, as it stands now, Constantine still has the characteristics of a niche comic, which is also the key to achieving the unique temperament of the movie "Hell Detective".
After "Spider-Man" fully ignited the market, more and more eyes are gathering towards comic superheroes, and various projects have begun to emerge.
However, major film companies are still watching, partly because other types of movies are still emerging in endlessly with good competitiveness; secondly, the two-dimensional comics are still hovering outside the mainstream audience and have not yet broken the boundaries of mainstream culture; thirdly, except for "Spider-Man", the box office results of other superhero movies are not outstanding.
At the current juncture, projects revolving around comic superheroes are indeed increasing, but the trend has not yet formed. It is still a matter of slowly reviewing one project at a time. Different producers and different companies may produce different results.
Therefore, it is not surprising that related projects are targeting Forest Pictures.
After all, Anson is the current Spider-Man.
Producer Lauren-Shuler-Donner is no stranger to comic adaptations, as she is the mastermind behind projects such as "X-Men", "Wolverine", and "Deadpool".
In Lauren's resume, there are many outstanding commercial films such as "Splash", "Pretty in Pink", "St. Elmo's Fire", and "You've Got Mail". She still maintains close relationships with Tom Hanks and Meg Ryan.
Among countless comic companies and comic characters, Lauren's focus on Constantine has to be said to have a unique vision.
Lucas frowned slightly, "If that's the case, why did the producer still find you? If Sony Columbia knows, they should chase her down, right?"
"Haha, very humorous," Anson burst out laughing directly, "But Sony Columbia has no clear clause prohibiting me from playing other superhero roles."
Lucas raised his eyebrows slightly, "Sony Columbia wouldn't make such a low-level mistake, would they?"
