From Flower Vase to Film Emperor in Hollywood
#282 - Professionalism
After a careful look, Anson confirmed he wasn't seeing things; it really was Jake Gyllenhaal.
"Jake?" Anson's surprise was no less than Kristen's, and he called out loudly.
Jake simply handed the entire stack of donut boxes to a stagehand, wiped the sweat from his forehead, and scurried over to Anson and Kristen, "Hey, guys, I just came to see what's up."
Anson: ?
Yesterday, didn't Jake say he wouldn't be visiting the set today?
Last night, nothing happened. Although Anson and Anne had created opportunities, the shy and introverted Jake still didn't seize them. They said goodbye at the coffee shop entrance and each took a taxi.
A complete void.
The night ended just like that, leaving Anson with nothing to show for his efforts.
But Anson didn't say much.
Everyone has their own rhythm. What's considered too fast or too slow is always relative. There are no rules about how long after meeting you should fall in love, when you should confess, or whether you can walk together. Every relationship has its own pace.
Everything will be fine if it's allowed to run its natural course.
A small jest eased the atmosphere, which hadn't even had time to become awkward.
Anson turned to Kristen, "It was dark last night, so you probably didn't see each other clearly. Let me formally introduce you to my friend now."
"Jake, this is Kristen."
"Kristen, this is Jake."
Good, everything was very natural.
A smile appeared in Kristen's eyes. She shook hands with Jake, considering it a formal introduction, and then looked at Anson with a somewhat restrained expression.
Anson actually understood Kristen—
The next scene.
Jake actually came to visit the set; was this really okay?
Anson chuckled silently.
Jake really should have asked in advance, which could have avoided such an awkward scene.
Anson opened his mouth, wanting to explain the situation, but then an impish thought occurred to him. He imagined Jake's reaction but couldn't picture it, and he couldn't help but feel a faint anticipation.
In any case, they were actors. Once the camera started rolling, they would enter their roles, and the acting should be left on the set.
That's what professional spirit is all about.
Thinking of this, Anson swallowed his words, patted Jake on the shoulder, "We're about to start filming. We'll talk in detail after this scene is finished. You should be familiar with film sets, right?"
Jake glanced at Kristen, "But this set is completely unfamiliar. Obviously, I don't know who I am, where I am, or what I'm doing."
A self-deprecating remark.
It could be seen that Jake was much calmer than last night, and his behavior was much more normal.
Anson nodded seriously, "Stay in this state, or the Men in Black will come and erase your memory."
Haha!
Kristen and Jake both laughed and exchanged glances.
Jake's smile was even brighter, "You guys prepare for filming first. Don't worry about me. I'll obediently find a spot outside the camera's view."
Normally, as a guest, you are often the center of attention; but on a film set, it's different. Guests need to follow the rules and avoid affecting the crew's work as much as possible.
Jake couldn't be clearer about this.
The film crew was filled with a lighthearted atmosphere because of the extra donut desserts for breakfast. Filming preparations were quickly completed. Compared to the outdoor environment, the indoor lighting adjustments were much faster. Then, the cameraman, according to Sam's instructions, stepped forward to inform the two actors of the camera's movement route.
This scene takes place in a hospital.
The movie has entered the third act. Norman Osborn is being taken over by the Green Goblin, becoming increasingly deranged. He realizes that Peter Parker is Spider-Man. To force Spider-Man to stand on the same side as him, he teaches Peter Parker a lesson by threatening Aunt May.
Although Aunt May wasn't really injured, she suffered a severe mental blow and was hospitalized. From Aunt May's description, Peter learns that the culprit is Norman Osborn.
After Peter spends the whole night in the hospital, Mary Jane also comes to visit.
This conversation takes place in front of Aunt May's hospital bed.
On the one hand, Peter is confused, worried that the Green Goblin will lose control and really hurt Aunt May, but he doesn't want to hurt others with the Green Goblin.
On the other hand, Mary Jane's relationship with Harry Osborn is also in chaos. Norman Osborn believes that Mary Jane is only after his son's assets, which causes a rift in their relationship.
Hospitals are inherently environments filled with illness and sadness. Both of them need to cheer up, briefly escape their negative emotions, try to find something positive, and rediscover the direction of their lives. The conversation takes place against this background.
It's a challenge for both actors.
Anson was a little nervous, even though he had tried similar performances in auditions. But auditions are auditions, and actual filming is another matter. At the same time, he was also eager to try, rubbing his fists and preparing to enter the role in front of the camera lens.
Kristen was also nervous, after all, she had only started discussing it with Anson last night, and today she had to go into actual combat. Was her grasp of Mary Jane's emotional state and context correct? Would she overdo it?
Moreover, Jake Gyllenhaal was also on set.
It felt a little strange.
Of course, this was just a dialogue scene, without any physical contact; but thinking carefully about Mary Jane's state of mind, her mind was still full of thoughts.
Raising her head, Kristen saw Anson's eyes, calm and frank, with a faint smile, which gradually calmed her nervousness and anxiety.
"I didn't expect that even a seasoned veteran would still be nervous," Anson joked, making Kristen chuckle. Then Anson continued, "This also proves that you still have passion for acting, not only with a learning attitude, but also with the mentality of trying to do well, not just getting by. It's especially valuable for an old actor who has been in the industry for more than ten years."
Kristen was stunned. She hadn't thought of interpreting it that way.
Anson widened his eyes, "Hey, if you say that, what does that make my complaint just now? I didn't really mean to say you're an old actor."
A smile climbed onto Kristen's face, "So, you also get nervous."
Anson opened his mouth slightly and chuckled, "Was the nervousness exposed? Well, I haven't reached the age to inject Botox yet."
While saying that, he also made a gesture of getting an injection.
Kristen couldn't help but burst out laughing.
Then, the sound of the script supervisor came from her ear.
"Are you ready?"
"No problem."
Gathering their smiles, they prepared.
