#292 - Reality and Illusion
Kristen was a little unsteady and dazed, not even knowing what she was thinking.
Last night, everything was fine. She met with friends, chatted about roles and work, and met a nice boy, feeling a little flutter in her heart.
This morning, when Kristen saw Jake on set, she felt a little shy, but couldn't deny that her heart was beating faster.
However.
Now, Kristen's gaze kept drifting towards Anson, almost imperceptibly, and without even realizing it, she began to care about Anson's reactions. She should have been thrilled when Jake invited her for coffee, but she was always concerned about Anson's reaction, subconsciously rejecting Jake.
Oh, God, what was she thinking? What was going on?
Kristen couldn't believe herself. Was this what the adult world was like, so contradictory and chaotic? Her cheeks were practically on fire.
As soon as she looked up, Kristen's eyes met Anson's.
Huh.
Kristen quickly lowered her eyelids, trying to hide her panic and confusion; but she couldn't help but look up slightly again, trying to capture the expression in those eyes. To Kristen's surprise, Anson was very calm.
There were no surging tides, no complicated emotions, no uncontrollable feelings.
"Jake, messing up once is okay. Anyone can make mistakes."
"The key is, after making a mistake once, are you willing to try a second or even a third time, or will you just give up? Is she worth it?"
The short sentence was like a thunderclap, exploding in her ears.
This applied to Jake, and Kristen was no exception.
If Kristen hadn't realized that Anson was creating an opportunity for Jake, hinting that she had no work after filming tomorrow morning, then her romantic senses might have been beyond saving.
Clearly, Anson didn't have special feelings for her.
Taken aback, Kristen's lips instead curled up, relaxing in relief—
So, she was being too attached.
The throbbing she felt was Mary Jane's throbbing for Peter Parker, not Kristen Dunst's throbbing for Anson Wood.
Everything was just because she was too immersed in the role.
Like a mirage, seemingly real, but easily disrupted with a gentle stir.
For a moment, she couldn't distinguish the boundary between reality and illusion.
Kristen prided herself on having ten years of experience in the industry, having experienced all kinds of situations. She used to laugh at being too immersed in the role as an amateurish performance, but she never expected that in her scene with Anson, a newbie, she would be the one to lose her helmet and armor, while Anson had already detached himself.
Come to think of it, it was indeed laughable.
But thinking about it seriously, this should be her first proper love scene, not the kind of high school romance comedy, but a scene where they truly understand each other through interaction and collision, finally falling in love.
True and false, real and unreal, unknowingly lost in the maze of emotions. Taking such a work as a gift for her adult transformation and opening a brand new door to the world of acting was not bad at all.
Kristen sincerely began to look forward to the completion of the entire "Spider-Man" shoot.
Today's filming was over, and the performance should also end.
Taking a deep breath, Kristen looked at Jake again, but it was already different. There was no shy hesitation, and she returned to her usual playful appearance.
Jake took a deep breath and mustered the courage to make a second invitation, "Kristen, maybe, tomorrow…"
But as he spoke, his voice automatically lowered, and finally faded away.
Now, Jake finally came back to his senses, realizing what a stupid thing he had just done, using his whole body to express his annoyance and regret, his eyebrows completely knotted together, unable to help but sigh to the heavens.
This scene made a smile appear in Kristen's eyes.
Then, Anson's concerned voice came, "Are you okay? Did you just eat Mexican chili? Do you need water?"
Pfft.
Kristen burst out laughing.
Jake almost choked on his saliva, looking over in shock.
Anson, "Otherwise, why have you been sighing there, as if your mouth is numb from the spice?"
The frustrating and absurd scene became even more comical.
Jake didn't know whether to cry or laugh, sending out an S.O.S. signal with his eyes: Bro, are you sure this is helping?
But Jake couldn't help but laugh, the more he thought about it, the funnier it became. He chuckled and raised his hand to surrender.
Kristen's eyes, lips, and heart were all full of smiles, her mood completely clearing up, "Okay."
Jake, "What?"
Kristen said again generously, "Okay."
Jake was stunned, then a smile crept onto his lips, blooming little by little, his right fist heavily hitting his left palm, "That's great."
After a small celebration, Jake belatedly came back to his senses and prepared to explain, "Sorry, just now, uh, just now I was a little carried away."
At this time, Kristen had returned to her usual appearance, and it seemed that one could see a little devil flying over her head with a fork, revealing sharp fangs.
"Which 'just now' are you talking about? The 'just now' when I agreed to your date invitation, or the 'just now' when you came to me and talked endlessly about acting, oh, right, or the 'just now' when you completely ignored my existence and praised a certain gentleman?"
Jake scratched his head, this question seemed to have no correct answer.
A smile spread across Kristen's eyebrows, and she laughed out loud, "There's no need to be nervous, I know Anson's performance is indeed outstanding."
Saying this, Kristen's eyes lit up and she turned to look at Anson.
There was no dodging, no escaping, no shyness, and no unease. She looked at Anson openly and generously. Even during the exchange of glances, she could still hear the sound of her heart pounding in her chest, but those restraints had quietly disappeared.
Kristen knew that there would be no problems with the upcoming filming.
She was ready.
As for the brief little interlude that had just happened, there was no need to let anyone know. This was her secret, a secret that only she knew.
"Thank you," Kristen said.
Anson was puzzled.
"About last night and today, after reading the script, I've been worried about this scene. I was worried that I would bring over the feeling of 'dazzling charm', which would seem too exaggerated, but I didn't expect everything to go so smoothly."
"It's all because of you."
Kristen was serious, from the bottom of her heart.
Not only admiring, but also grateful.
Now it seemed that choosing to partner with Anson to film this work was indeed the wisest decision. Kristen was glad that she had made the right decision.
Although Anson had no way of knowing the turbulent waves in Kristen's mind, Kristen's sincerity and openness were clearly expressed through her eyes.
If it was a half-joking remark, Anson would accept it calmly, or even tease back; but Kristen was too sincere, so much so that Anson also became restrained.
This was the first time someone had praised his performance so solemnly in person, and it was still such an important scene.
In an instant, time seemed to return to the days before he was twenty-five years old in his previous life. At that time, how could he have been thrown into confusion by a single compliment?
Now, Anson didn't know how to respond.
Therefore.
Anson's shoulders drooped, like Sadness from "Inside Out", turning to leave, "Okay, I know you guys dislike me as a light bulb with too much wattage, using this method to imply that I should leave gracefully…"
