From Flower Vase to Film Emperor in Hollywood
#42 - A Beginning
Truthfully, although the audience hadn't forgotten Anson, the level of enthusiasm was noticeably different. He couldn't compare to Jennifer, let alone James.
Anson wasn't surprised by this, nor did he feel the need to be disappointed or sad. The difference in popularity was obvious. He himself was no exception. Seeing those characters from the television and movie screens come to life up close, the feeling of breaking the fourth wall was simply uncontrollable.
For Anson, today's filming was a gift. He stood under the lights, in front of the camera, using his performance to give life to a character.
This was already incredible enough.
Now, Anson was starting to look forward to the airing of the show, watching his own image appear on the small screen. What kind of feeling would that be?
And then.
That girl appeared.
A pair of emerald eyes, bright and clear, with a few adorable freckles visibly scattered across her fair cheeks, nose, and face. Her lips trembled slightly with excitement and exhilaration, almost devoid of color. Her shoulders and fingertips trembled uncontrollably.
Her hand was icy cold.
No words were needed. Her eyes, expression, and movements said it all, even more vividly than language, conveying that fervent joy.
Anson was slightly stunned—
This was different from all the previous audience members. She was looking at him with the same gaze they gave Jennifer.
Happiness.
Only happiness existed in those slightly sparkling eyes, a pure and simple emotion, displayed without any defense or concealment.
So, this was what 'adoration' felt like.
"What's your name?"
The girl spoke, impulsively blurting out the words, a bit rash, a bit direct, a bit stiff, but full of sincerity.
It wasn't that the previous audience members weren't sincere or enthusiastic. They had also offered compliments: "You were great," "Wonderful performance," "A beautiful day," and so on. But gradually, it had devolved into the same sentence, the same word, "Handsome," repeated over and over, with a remarkably limited vocabulary.
In contrast, the girl's words immediately broke the mold, like opening the door to a whole new world, presenting a completely different scene.
Even Anson himself was no exception. Only at this moment did he realize that, in the public eye, he was still a completely unfamiliar, fresh face.
Asking this simplest, most basic introductory question also meant the emergence of curiosity. This was a beginning.
Unexpectedly, the girl who asked the question panicked, worried that she had caused trouble, her face filled with terror, the light in her pupils flickering violently.
"I, I am Gloria-Preston."
The girl nervously added, completing the rescue with a self-introduction, so that the previous question wouldn't seem abrupt and rude.
Anson could feel the girl's hands trembling uncontrollably due to nervousness, a mixture of excitement and tension continuing to surge.
He gently raised the corners of his mouth and said solemnly.
"It's a great pleasure to meet you, Gloria-Preston. I'm Wood, Anson-Wood."
Thump. Thump. Thump.
Gloria's heart finally started beating again, fireworks blooming in her mind.
Gloria had no idea how she left, as if walking on clouds, taking light and heavy steps, staggering and dazed, without recognizing the direction, unconsciously following the surge of the crowd, until she left the studio and felt the sunlight falling on her skin again.
Slightly scalding.
Her footsteps landed back on the ground, regaining her center of gravity, and everything became real again.
"Anson."
Gloria couldn't help but carefully feel the vibration of that syllable between her lips and teeth.
"Anson-Wood."
Perhaps, a spell was just like this, ordinary words, but at the moment of repetition, you could feel the surge of emotions and the acceleration of the heartbeat.
"Anson-Wood!"
Again, and again.
Once more, and again.
If it wasn't a magic spell, then why did her mood feel like climbing into the clouds, that joy, that happiness, making her want to stroll in the sunlight.
"Ah, ah, ah!"
Gloria suddenly rushed out, plunging into the sunlight, uncontrollably running wildly, using her whole body to feel the oncoming wind.
At the same time, inside the studio.
The small meet-and-greet finally came to an end, and all the observing audience members had left. The noise and clamor slowly subsided, and the studio gradually quieted down.
As she looked up, Jennifer Aniston was the first to see that figure, "David, haven't you left yet?"
David Crane revealed a smile, but didn't answer Jennifer's question, "You should be in a hurry to get off work, right? What, do you have a date with Brad?"
Jennifer knew that the producer was teasing her, and she laughed heartily, "No, there's no time. We're arranging the wedding. Jesus Christ, I just realized how terrible it is to arrange a wedding. I finally know why so many couples argue when arranging a wedding."
David Crane gently raised his chin, "Argue a little more, so that we can have psychological balance. Ah, so Jennifer and Brad also argue."
With a teasing remark, Jennifer laughed happily.
David Crane continued, "You go off work first, they've all left. If there's anything, I'll contact your agent directly."
Originally, James was still hesitating about how he should escape—
Meeting the producer was like meeting a boss at work. After getting off work, he really didn't want to talk about work, his mind filled with the idea of quickly getting off work and escaping the scene.
As a result, David Crane opened his mouth, "Anson, how about it, do you have time to talk?"
James breathed a long sigh of relief, secretly clenched his fist, and quickly said, "David, Anson, then you guys talk, I'll go back first."
After saying goodbye, James hurriedly followed Jennifer's footsteps and quickly disappeared, disappearing in the blink of an eye.
David Crane didn't mind, turned to look at Anson, "Congratulations. I just noticed that some audience members have already asked for your name, this is a beginning."
"In the beginning, we were all nobodies, existing without a name, no one caring about your name or your identity, until someone starts to care, that's when we truly begin to exist."
Simple, yet profound.
Anson's mind reflexively surfaced a key word, "'Spirited Away'."
David Crane was stunned, "What?"
Only then did Anson remember that "Spirited Away" wouldn't be released until next year, "Nothing. You specifically looked for me, it shouldn't be to test on the spot whether I remember your name, right?"
David Crane laughed directly, "Haha, that's a good idea, I'll do a surprise test in the crew in the future."
"But, no, it's not for this matter."
"I stayed behind to ask what you think, how about it, are you willing to continue to guest star in another episode of 'Friends', I mean, next week, continue to play the role of Paul Stevens?"
